Some have already volunteered to come out again next year. Not only did we have our Club members volunteer their time, but many non-members came forward as well. The heat was a bit of an issue but we had no problems and kept the judges and workers well hydrated. Volunteer Opportunities

Please start thinking now about you you would like to support our 2016 events!

Hunt Test AcknowledgementMy first year as Hunt Test Secretary did not come off without any hitches, but all were handled quickly and efficiently. Thank you to Nikki Illias for stepping up as Hunt Test chair and also for guiding me through the process of putting on this event. I could not have done it without you. I have volumes of notes to rewrite for next year.

This is an event that requires many, many hands. We had an excellent group of Club members who came out this year and worked – some of them them both days. Many new members stepped up and it was great to see them getting excited about this venue. Some have already volunteered to come out again next year. Not only did we have our Club members volunteer their time, but many non-members came forward as well. I hesitate to start naming people as I am sure I would miss someone and I don’t want to take the chance of having someone feel slighted. But be assured – in my mind I can see and name every one of you and I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

Our judges were very good and put on nice clean tests and the number of passes I believe attest to that. The heat was a bit of an issue but we had no problems and kept the judges and workers well hydrated.

Marilyn and Richard Parker opened their home on Friday night for the judges’ dinner and the food was wonderful! Thank you Marilyn and Richard for your hospitality. Marilyn also did a great job with the raffle.

I hope to see more of you at the Hunt Test next year!

Respectfully, Cindy Freeman Hunt Test Secretary

Specialty AcknowledgementThank you to everyone who helped me with the Specialty. As chairman, I did a lot of worrying, but my committee people really do most of the work. Special thanks to some, but my heartfelt thanks to the folks who are there to do the large and small jobs year after year. The lunch was beyond wonderful thanks to Lisa Cruanas and all who helped with the food. I received help from Lizzie and Cindy when my computer crashed and I could not reply to emails. Blake and Kim did all the paperwork for AKC and the park. Our Club is known for our hospitality and Judy, Scott, Susan, Greg and Mimi deserve huge kudos again this year. Thanks to Molly for the great breakfast spread.

So many members help on set-up and take-down. Year after year, it seems the same group of people step up to do the work. We notice! I am always proud of the show our Club puts on and we do hear great things from exhibitors and judges about our show and parties. It isn’t too soon to volunteer to help Lizzie with all the work involved to do it again next year.

Respectfully, Ellen Sparks Specialty Chair

P.S. A special thank you to all the breeders who donated their lovely boys to the RCLRC Stud Dog Auction this year. You helped to make this auction a huge success! Thank you to Julie Oghigian of Montview Labs, Elaine Nusser of Winterfell Labs, Linda Vaughn of Simerdown Labs, Jean-Louis Blais of Chablais Labs, Sara Pearce of Wildblue Labs, Brian Proctor of Cambridge Labs, Shelah Horne Frey of Mainland Labs, Laura Fletcher of Drycreek Labs, Hyspire, Cindy Freeman of Quail Run Labs, Elenore Diehr of Elkens Labs, Kim Jacobson of Alibi Labs, Paul Guttenberg of Union Hill Labs, Jennifer White of Big Thunder Labs and Susan Raney of Raynefall Labs. - Jessica Smith

Special AnnouncementsOur Club has been supporting the entry of Labradors at the January Rose City Classic, and Sweepstakes is also offered. Due to time limitations on getting the judge’s paperwork into AKC, we had to quickly pick a judge for 2016. We have asked Shelah Frey and she has graciously accepted this assignment to judge Sweepstakes.

In the future, this judge selection will take place at our January meeting in order to offer other suggestions and voting by our members.

Thank you for understanding the expediency of how this was handled this year.

Just for Fun...An enthusiastic duck hunter was in the market for a new bird dog. His search ended when he found a Labrador that could actually walk on water to retrieve a duck. Shocked by his find, he was sure none of his friends would ever believe him.

He decided to try to break the news to a friend of his, a pessimist by nature, and invited him to hunt with him and his new Labrador Retriever. As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flew by. They fired, and a duck fell. The Labrador responded and jumped into the water. The Labrador Retriever, however, did not sink but instead walked across the water to retrieve the bird, never getting more than his paws wet. The friend saw everything but did not say a single word.

On the drive home the hunter asked his friend, “Did you notice anything unusual about my new Labrador?” “I sure did,” responded his friend. “Your Labrador retriever can’t swim”.
