Enhanced Networking Opportunities
What’s new? What’s different? If you’ve attended RILA’s Supply Chain Conference, you’ve heard me plead with attendees to share their candid feedback about the program by completing the evaluations. Believe it or not, it’s not your compliments we’re most interested in (although they do make us feel good!). It’s your suggestions for enhancing the conference that grab our attention. You spoke. We listened. And, we’ve made some changes.
For one, the Welcome Reception will look a little different this year. Year after year, you tell us that the opportunity to network with your industry peers is a top reason for attending the conference. You asked us to find a way to enhance the networking opportunities on opening night, providing attendees with direct access to like-minded peers among the mass of executives. We found a way! At this year’s Welcome Reception, you’ll see areas marked by flags, each flag representing a different functional area like Transportation, Distribution, Specialty Retail and Inventory Management. If you want to network with executives managing similar day-to-day responsibilities, head over to “your” area. Of course, you should feel free to expand your network beyond your functional peer group by visiting any/all of the areas. Let us know what you think.
You’ll also see enhancements to the educational sessions. When reviewing last year’s conference evaluations, a few common themes jumped out at us. First, you wanted more sessions addressing leadership, professional development, the people side of your business. In response to your feedback, we added the Leadership & Development track this year. Breakout sessions will focus on topics like leading your team through organizational change, workplace diversity, promoting respect and acceptance, talent management and recruiting millennials. Second, you asked us to build on last year’s multi-channel track given the speed at which the shopping landscape is changing and the emerging challenges you’re facing. We’ve renamed the track to Omni-channel to reflect this evolution and sessions will focus on achieving a seamless approach to the consumer experience through all available shopping channels. Finally, you said you wanted speakers to share more “lessons-learned” and key action items to take back to your respective organizations. Get your paper and pen ready!
Over this three day event, you’ll see other ways in which we have incorporated your ideas. On behalf of the entire RILA team and our conference steering committee, THANK YOU for your thoughtful feedback on how we can build on our success and for reminding us that we cannot rest on our laurels. Admittedly, it’s tempting to rely on our past success. But, we resist the temptation and manage to raise the bar every year. With all humility, I think we’ve done it again this year.
Decide for yourself. View the full program at www.rila.org/supplychain.
There’s still time to register, but hotel rooms are filling up fast. Join us and other industry thought leaders for a best-in-class educational and networking event for retail supply chain executives.
See you in San Diego!
Lisa LaBruno, Esq. Senior Vice President, Retail Operations

In addition, internal company issues such as systems failures, labor disruptions, or a warehouse sprinkler system gone wild can also wreak havoc. Consumers expect that if they can make it to a brick and mortar location, or have access to the Internet to place an on-line order, retailers will be ready to respond. How well-equipped is your supply chain to respond in the event of a crisis? Do you have contingency plans in place -- or do you just intend to “ride the storm out”? Find out how manufacturers, retailers, and service providers can work together to better serve the ultimate consumer during challenging times.
Wednesday February 26, 2014 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of LeadershipThe message of Servant Leadership is applicable to anyone in a traditional leadership position. We all leave our “mark” on the organizations and people we touch every day. A dynamic and entertaining speaker, Jim Hunter has touched literally millions of lives with his ability to emotionally move people.
James HunterAuthor

Rather than divide us, Mitch found that faith can pull us together. He shares stories about faith amongst the poor, the well-to-do, the homeless, and those who once felt God did not exist. Already developed in his works Tuesdays With Morrie and The Five People You Meet In Heaven, Mitch Albom weaves a captivating and uplifting message about the potential in all of us for a giving, meaningful life.
