I am an architect with 15 years of experience in large scale projects. I have designed shopping centres, theatres, hotels and commercial mixed use schemes. The largest of my projects is a 1.5 million sq.ft. shopping centre, for which I was project architect. I have also been the local architect for an award-winning flight services kitchen. My current projects include a 10 storey, steel car parking facility in central Delhi, for which I am the principal architect.
I have practiced at many scales including urban design and master-planning, campus planning, architecture, and interior design. I have worked in the UK and in India with global firms such as GMW, Gensler, I+O consultants and Callison. I have worked to produce international designs and led teams in interpreting and implementing them locally.
I have worked in large and small teams, been principal architect for a practice of twenty employees and currently work as a consultant architect. I am able to combine excellent client facing and communication skills with technical experience from macro to micro scales.I use Space Syntax to relate spatial structures to observed behaviour and movement patterns and create designs that maximise the opportunities and natural potentials derived from form and urban context.
As an academic, my research is on the relationship between urban spatial structures and emergent patterns of urban form. I have authored two internationally published conference papers.
I regularly supervise architecture, housing and urban design studios; deliver specialised courses in spatial theory and urban analysis at the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi, and the Sushant School of Art and Architecture, Gurgaon. I have also guided numerous student dissertations and final year thesis projects.
I am an enthusiastic violinist, and have performed with the Delhi Symphony and NeemranaChamber Orchestra in Delhi; and the UCL and Fulham Symphony Orchestras in London.
I am happy to provide UK referees if needed.

Analysis of historical ruins of Nalanda University
All the Informal Education and Residential Areas fall on high natural movement zones, implying that a great deal of learning is gained in the course of daily living activities. This is a complete eco-system in itself. The formal education areas in themselves are less connected to the living areas and this suggests a journey leading up to formal discourse

Site Analysis and recommendations
The integration core of the site and surrounding villages is located on the adjacent highway. Proposed primary and secondary spines are aimed at pulling integration into the campus

Final RecommendationsMinor adjustments recommended to ensure optimal connectivity and appropriate siting of residential, academic and community facilities

Role: Social Sustainability and public realm activation advisory
2015
My brief was to recommend opportunities to increase the pedestrian based activity of the site with the objective of creating a 24x7 city.
Using space syntax techniques, I was able to analyse the spatial potentials of the site in terms of accessibility patterns with various origin-destination pairs.
This enabled me to recommend a series of interventions in terms of :
A. Optimisations: minimum expenditure interventions increasing the activity levels of areas already identified for public activity
B. Activations: recommendations to activate areas which have high degree of potential, but have been identified for low activity functions
C. Strategic: where primary activating features provided do not alight with movement corridors and requires substantial adjustments to the masterplan

Axial Map showing Integration:New Friends Colony is planned in a grid like manner and demonstrates peripheral Integration.Zakir Nagar is organic and demonstrates centre to periphery integrations
Axial Map showing Integration with observed building use:Building use correlates well with Spatial Integration for both settlements. ZakirNagar demonstrates a much higher degree of public/active functions
Result of questionnaire :In general Zakir Nagar demonstrates greater social cohesion and self sufficiency than New Friends Colony.
This is an interesting finding for the students in a socio-political context where planned, gated settlements like New Friends Colony are preferred by most, and organic settlements are considered blots on the cityscape.
