RESEARCH PROJECTS
Graduate Student Researcher, University of Michigan Ann Arbor January 2015 – Present Photocatalytically Enhanced Synthesis of Ammonia
Aimed at making ammonia production process energy efficient and inexpensive through photocatalysis Reduced reaction temperature by 300°C by using UV light and a noble-metal loaded titania catalyst Obtained optimum conditions (best catalyst, temperature, pressure, flow ratio) to produce ammonia Achieved an additional benefit of CO2-less production through this process Acquainted with the usage of equipments such as DRIFTS, TGA, XRD, EDX/EDS, SEM and FTIR through this project
Final Year Project, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India January 2014 – May 2014 Manufacture of Urea
Objective was to present a cost effective and high efficiency Urea manufacturing process Worked on process selection, designed process equipments and plant layout, and developed a feasibility report Attained 98% process efficiency and a payback period of 3 years
Summer Research Fellow , National Centre for Catalysis Research, IIT Madras, Chennai, India May 2013 – July 2013 Isomerisation of n-Hydrocarbons over Micro Mesoporous ZSM-5 Catalyst
Main objective was to find an octane number enhancing substitute in fuels in place of sulphur Conducted preliminary studies to analyse the effect of C5-C6 hydrocarbons in fuels on their octane number Performed isomerisation reaction of n-hexane in a High Pressure Micro Reactor using Pt-loaded ZSM-5 catalyst Deduced the effect of temperature on the isomerisation reaction by analysing Gas Chromatography results
