JOSHUA LONG

I most recently served as Lead Pastor of El Centro First Assembly of God. My family and I moved to Southern California from Texas in September 2012. Before moving to California, I was the Associate Pastor for a large multi-ethnic diverse congregation of 2500 in the Houston area. !I have been in full-time ministry for almost twenty years and have served as youth pastor, church planter, associate pastor and lead pastor. I attended Central Bible College and Southwestern Assemblies of God University where I earned a BA in Church Ministries and am currently working towards a masters in Practical Theology. !I am married to the beautiful and talented Jessica Long. We have four children - Sydney 11, Elliot 8, Violet 7 and Zuzu 5. !My heart’s desire is to ensure the Body of Christ is spiritually mature, trained and ready to relevantly communicate the Gospel to their family, community and the world.

• Supervision of the large Christian Education Ministry with forty seven teachers.

• Led and worked alongside a large staff of thirteen Pastors.

• Oversight of the membership process, new members and teaching of the weekly class for newcomers.

• Southwest Houston 2000 Community Organization - Member of Board of Directors.

• Integral in establishing community based initiative partnering local clergy with the Houston Police Department to respond to crisis events in the community. Member of Board of Directors.

• Established after-school program partnering with the local YMCA focusing on low income apartment communities.

• Responsible for outreaches to the local community including Back To School Backpacks, Hope Bags, Angel Tree, Thanksgiving Groceries, Tax Preparation, et al.

• Communicated the vision and transitioned the church to better communicate to and meet the needs of young families while maintaining the integrity of the Gospel message.

• Refocused church’s community advertising to include relevant websites and a large online social presence.

• Preached applicable and doctrinally sound weekly messages that fed both young and spiritually mature believers.

• Raised over $20,000 to begin a campus-wide remodel and update to current facilities. This included remodeling of existing foyer, and complete update of existing landscaping.

• Major construction and remodel of nursery facility to address the security of our children and communicate the importance we placed on children.

• Successfully conducted a nationwide staffing search for a Student Ministries Pastor.

• Oversaw large outreaches and events including Thanksgiving Dinners, Fall Festivals, Family Movie Nights, Easter Egg Hunts, Christmas Eve Candlelight Services, etc.

• Established Creative Team to help carry the current Message Series into the church aesthetics.

• Planned, developed leaders and launched a very successful church-wide small groups campaign targeted to specific age-groups, interests, and life-stages. There are currently eighteen in operation.

• Consistent numerical and spiritual growth within congregation.

• Experience in dealing with difficult staff situations which required my complete fairness yet firmness while upholding the rectitude and integrity of the church body.

• Elected and currently serving on the Imperial Valley Section Leadership Committee.

• Developed new six-week curriculum for a newcomers class to help connect them quickly into the church body.
