EXPERIENCE

Family Assistance Coordinator, Oasis Adult Day Services

· I am a full time social worker who assists families with placing their loved ones in adult day care and later on referring them to complete care and nursing plans including memory units and assisted living situations. I also help families find support both financially and through support groups and other organizations in which they may qualify for help. I apply for and assist with DDS, DHS, and Advantage applications and am available to help care givers every weekday. My case load is between 50-70 participants at any given time. The participants are elderly dementia and infirm as well as mentally and emotionally disabled adults. I am a member of Tulsa Interagency Council and Broken Arrow Starlight Civitan which is a club that helps individuals with disabilities. I am also a regular volunteer for B.R.I.D.G.E.S which is a foundation that helps disabled individuals learn life skills. I work very well with all populations and have been highly trained in crisis intervention strategies as well as suicide prevention and have handled successfully many serious situations. I am quick and reliable under pressure and have had positive results in my decision making abilities in intense situations.

September 2011-June 2012

Night Shelter Manager, (paid internship) Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless

· This is where I learned most of my crisis intervention skills and really got my foot into the door of social work. Working with the homeless checking them into the shelter for the night and ‘hands on’ help including feeding, communicating with, and providing council and referrals for other help. Worked with groups and one on one in the shelter that housed approximately 100-125 per night. Regularly assessed situations and reported on problematic behaviors and medical issues. Called EMSA at least 3-5 times a week for emergency situations. Helped maintain a calm atmosphere and was there for those who just needed an ear to listen to them.
