Taught a college level 10 week course in Expository Preaching for local bi-vocational Pastors, staff, and lay preachers

Stepped out boldly in adopting a mission church in East Tawakoni 1999 – 2009 We sensed God leading us to do something that required a great deal of faith. To move to a new city and state and start a new church.

Church Planter and Senior Pastor Wellspring Church on Dobson, sbc Wellspring Church began as a mission church of Corona Baptist Church in Chandler, Arizona in cooperation with NAMB and the ASBC. The church met at various locations including Andersen Elementary School, Andersen Jr. High School, Knox Elementary School, Tarwater Elementary School and Granada Plaza Shopping Center. The church moved to its 10.5 acre campus in April 2006 at Dobson Road and the new San Tan Freeway.

Led church through 2 successful Capital Fundraising Drives raising more than $1 million in a new church plant.

Led church through construction to its permanent location.

Attendance pushed over 200 after moving onto church campus.

I learned much about missions, church planting, and myself especially during the twilight years of my time serving at Wellspring.

Started Higher Purpose Ministries to help pastors and churches achieve their goals.

2010 Though short in tenure, this was a fruitful and blessed time of ministry. While serving at Mesa Baptist we were contacted by Highland Terrace Baptist in Greenville.

Transitional Pastor Mesa Baptist Church, Mesa, AZ Mesa Baptist Church is a church that grew to nearly 800 in a non-Bible-belt city. After its Senior Pastor left for the mission field, the church began serious decline. Worship attendance had dropped to 300 - 350 in 2 services before we came.

Preached shepherding messages to a church in need of healing

Mentored staff in ministry and leadership development

Provided wise counsel to lay leadership team and search committee

Assisted Financial Committee with experienced budget advice during a time of national economic uncertainty

Saw increased stewardship participation, church confidence, and stability

Worked effectively to help them begin a path toward growth

Led boldly in evangelistic preaching and training 2010 – 2016 In 2010 we were able to move our entire family back to Texas. This put us closer to my mother who lived in Lubbock and Cindy’s mother who lives in Forney. Our oldest son was in community

Executive Pastor / Minister of Education Highland Terrace Baptist Church, Greenville, TX June 2010 – June 2016 Highland Terrace Baptist Church is the largest church in the Hunt Baptist Association and in Greenville. The church features a history of a strong pulpit, an organized Sunday School program, a love for evangelism and missions, and convention support. It has an excellent staff and is a blend of both traditional stability and contemporary worship. Sunday mornings include 2 traditional worship services, 1 contemporary worship service, and 2 Bible Study hours.

Shepherded our church through a precarious time of pastoral transition

Started six new groups without splitting any existing ones

Managed skillfully the budget resources during this period of transition without cutting any ongoing ministries

Rallied the staff team to fulfill all ministries without losing any staff positions

Community Involvement:

Member of Community Action Panel Committee for Intel,

Member of Chandler Chamber of Commerce, Chandler, AZ

PTO at Tarwater Elementary in Chandler, AZ

Basketball coach with Arizona Youth Sports

Disabled American Veterans, Hunt County, Americanism Program Seminars and Training Events Attended:

I am continuously striving to improve my knowledge and skills and stay sharp “Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.” Eph. 4:12 NLT I received quality training in Lead Like Jesus, Worship Week in Glorietta, Faith Sunday School, Purpose Driven Church, Transitional Pastor Training, Prepare and Enrich, and Stephen Olford Expository Preaching Seminar, to name a few.

Training Personally Facilitated:

Since the call to ministry involves not only being trained, but also training others (Eph. 4:12), I have received training in order to train others in evangelism and discipleship. I have facilitated training in many areas such as, 40 Days of Purpose, 40 Days in the Word, Marriage 101, The Truth Project, How To Teach the Bible, Proven Principles for Successful Stewardship, and more.

Capital Campaigns: The Lord has placed me in several churches which had a need for capital campaigns.

Writing: I really enjoy writing late at night to my wife’s chagrin. I thoroughly enjoy creating resources that can help people move to the next level in their spiritual journey. Writing also helps me to stay sharp and improve my communication skills. Many times original sermon materials can be adapted and used in multiplied venues such as books, newsletter articles, magazine articles, Bible studies, CD’s, pamphlets, blog articles, etc. My books include A Guidebook for Searchers, Revelation: Book of Mystery and Majesty, Daily Prayer Journal, and others.

Personal Information:

Firstborn to Van and “Teddy” in 1959. Married Cindy in January 1985. Cindy earned an Associates of Arts degree from Fashion and Arts Institute of Dallas. We met while both working at Sanger – Harris Department Store in Dallas. Children: Timothy (age 25), Andrew (age 22), Rebecca (age 19) Licensed by Second Baptist Church, Lamesa, Texas, 1982

Ordained by Trinity Baptist Church, Irving, Texas, 1988 Summary: I believe all these experiences have equipped me to be a more effective preacher

and leader and that the Lord is using them to prepare me for serving Him and His church in a larger way. I truly enjoy preaching God’s powerful and inerrant Word in a compelling way and leading a church to follow the Lord and advance His kingdom. I am thankful for each ministry opportunity the Lord has given me, but I sense God is calling me back to preaching and leading as a Senior Pastor to help a church reach its community and beyond for Christ. I tend to be an inspirational leader who seeks God’s direction for His local church and then communicates that vision in a compelling way. I am able to get things done, but in a nice way. I am a shepherd who loves the people and will minister to the sick and hurting. A church that wants to grow and move forward without disrupting its fellowship the process, may enjoy getting acquainted. I am in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and The Chicago Statement on Inerrancy.
