Elizabeth Sterling, Head of American Paintings:The thrilling sale of Edward Hoppers Blackwells Islandfor $19,163,750 marks
the highest price ever achieved for a single work of art in an American Art Sale at Christies. The result for Blackwells Island, as
well as the record-setting price of $4,155,750 for a work on paper by Hopper, achieved by Kelly Jenness House, underscores the
artist's continued popularity and the strong demand for top Modernist works. The sale total of $50.8 million is the highest that
the category has seen since May 2008 and, in addition to Modernism, there were strong prices across all categories, with works
of Illustration, Impressionism, and the Hudson River School all appearing in the Top Ten. We look forward to our next sale on
December 5th
