University AccommodationEach university accommodation offers an all inclusive package with heating, water,
electricity, internet, and personal possession insurance included in the rent.
To make your move hassle free we will also offer all students a FREE bedding pack if
requested on arrival!
Other essential items can be purchased from the University online store visit:http://onlinestore.sunderland.ac.uk/ The PrecinctThe Precinct oers students standard or premium rooms,
and can house up to 412 students. The Precinct premium
rooms have recently been reurbished throughout and they
oer students the choice o both wireless and connected
internet access. Situated near to City Campus, The
Precinct is close to the University Library, CitySpace,
Students Union and other university acilities.
Sunderland City Centre is only a 5 minute walk away with
The Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peters (1.5 miles away)
easily accessible by oot.
It was quite daunting moving out from
home, but living at Clanny has been one
of the best decisions Ive ever made, it
really gives you a condence boost.

Clanny HouseClanny House is one o the Universitys largest residences and can house up
to 559 students. Students who apply to Clanny House have the opportunity
to choose rom a variety o room sizes ranging rom medium, large, and extra
large; perect or students who wish to bring a lot o stu! Bathroom and
kitchen acilities here are shared, with a washbasin in each bedroom.* This
accommodation has a lot to oer and is situated next to great bus and metro
transport links both into the City o Sunderland and throughout the North East;
giving students a great excuse to explore what our region has to oer.

Panns BankPanns Bank is situated next to the River Wear, opposite
the Universitys riverside campus at St Peters and only
1 mile rom the Universitys City Campus. Panns Bank is
made up o two courts; Hart Court and Douglas Court,
and houses 266 students. Having two courts at Panns
Bank means, unlike many other universities, we can oer
our rst years the opportunity to stay in university
accommodation throughout their programme o study.
Students living in Panns Bank can also opt or a river
view*, taking advantage o the location o this
accommodation and with a shop and Students Union bar
only a short walk away, students living at Panns Bank can
easily buy their daily essentials and socialise with riends.*Limited availability

Scotia QuayScotia Quay is made up o two houses, Allan House
and Russell House and oers both postgraduate and
undergraduate accommodation. Scotia Quay oers its
residents en suite acilities and houses 228 students.
Scotia Quay is located next to Panns Bank and some
rooms oer a river view*. Each fat is sel-contained with
a study bedroom containing its own bathroom and toilet
acilities with the kitchen and lounge being shared with
ellow residents in the fat. A shop and the StudentsUnion bar are on the doorstep, allowing students to buy
their daily essentials and socialise with riends. A small
ridge is available in each study bedroom, with some
rooms in Scotia Quay designed to accommodate
students with disabilities.

FamilyAccommodationI you are considering bringing your amily to Sunderland, please contact the Accommodation Oce beore making
any travel arrangements. The Accommodation Team will endeavour to meet your requirements; however we cannot
guarantee accommodation to all amilies.
Our amily houses (maximum 2 children) at Scotia Quay and Panns Bank oer 2 bedrooms (one double bed and
two single beds), a bathroom, lounge, and kitchen. I we do not have available amily houses students can nd
suitable accommodation through our Student Pad site.
Couples AccommodationThe Accommodation Oce oers a selection o couple based accommodation and can suit the needs o both
undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Forge U-Student Village(workinginpartnershipwiththeUniversity)
The Forge U-Student Village works in partnership with the
University o Sunderland and the Accommodation
Oce. This means that we do not own the accommodation
but we would highly recommend it to our students as it
oers the same services and acilities as the rest o our
accommodation including the all inclusive rent package.
U-Student has looked at the nancial diculties acing
students and to help with the cost o living they have
reduced the cost o a standard study room or September
2013 intake. This is a positive move by U-Student and
shows commitment in providing high quality
accommodation at aordable prices.
Located on Neville Road Sunderland, The Forge
U-Student Village is within minutes o the Metro train
station, within walking distance o the University City
Campus (0.9 mile) and within a short walk to all local
amenities. Free campus bus services run regularly during
term times between The Forge and the University
Campus and accommodat ion buildings. Recent ly
reurbished The Forge U-Student Village is ully
urnished and oers a modern high quality living
environment, with common room and ully tted kitchen
including dishwasher, appliances, and ample storage,
each bedroom has tted modern urniture and
vanity basin, a small number o en suite rooms, studios,
and accessible rooms are available on site. The Forge
U-Student Village is unique in Sunderland, a secure
student environment with excellent on site acilities
including bar, shop, ree to use computer room, laundry,
and a ree to use cash machine.
Accommodation or students studying at postgraduate
level is also available in The Precinct, Clanny House and
The Forge U-Student Village.

cheapest in the UK and we want to show you this in an easy and clear way.
How to ApplyApplying or accommodation is simple with our online application orm. To apply please visit:
www.sunderland.ac.uk/residentialservicesandgotoApplyOnline
Students applying or The Forge U-Student can alternatively apply via the U-Student website at:
www.u-student.com
First time users need to register with their student application number and date o birth (a validation code will be
emailed to you).
Log in and use the validation code, once the code has been accepted you are able to apply.
1. To apply select applications rom the let hand menu and create a new application.
2. Continue with your application, adding your choices o university accommodation and any additional
inormation you wish or us to know, or example, room preerences, medical
inormation etc. Finished? Then submit!
3. You will receive an automatic email conrming that you have submitted an application.
Note: The validation code only needs to be submitted when you logon or the rst time.
All applications will be allocated in accordance with the Accommodation Allocation Policy. For more inormation
please visit our website.
After you ApplyStudents holding either an Unconditional Firm (UF) or Conditional Firm (CF) will receive an email rom theaccommodation oce within seven working days. Details o your room oer and rent payments will be on your
contract, ollow the instructions on the email to see this inormation.
Remember to print your contract!
To accept your room oer you must pay a booking ee o 300, the University will take various methods o payment
or more details visit: http://services.sunderland.ac.uk/nance/student-ees/htp/
Once the booking ee has been veried by the bank, you will receive a conrmation email rom the Accommodation
Oce and a conrmation or the booking ee rom Finance. Once received you have completed your accommodation
application!

Visit UsYou can visit a show fat on a University Open Day and an Applicant Day.
During the summer months, students can also send an email request to the
Accommodation Oce to visit their preerred accommodation. Just send us
your student details and the date you would like to visit and we will try to
accommodate this. I we cannot accommodate we will look at alternative
dates or you.

Early ArrivalsAlthough we do not encourage students arriving early we understand in
some circumstances it is unavoidable. I you are arriving early please tell us.
Where possible, early arrivals will be booked into their contracted rooms but
where this is not possible temporary accommodation in another room may
be used.
A charge per night or the room will be applied. Further inormation on
prices can be discussed with the Accommodation Oce.
Studying other Courses?We understand that some courses dier in length or they may start at
dierent times o the year and that a standard accommodation contract may
not suit your requirements.
The Accommodation Oce will endeavour to cater or students who may
only study or part o the academic year. Contract dates will be determined
ollowing consultation with aculties and other university departments. More

Casual/Short Stay and SummerAccommodationCasual accommodation is available at Clanny House (subject to bed
availability). For inormation on nightly rates and how to apply please visit

The Accommodation Oce can oer students a room within a summer stay
fat i they require accommodation over the summer, these fats are located
in Clanny House. Please give the oce prior notice o your arrival into
summer stay accommodation so we can check availability.
We understand that living away rom home can, at rst,
be a daunting experience. Thats why all o our
properties are staed 24-hours a day, with a residential
and security team. Our residential teams are made up o;
a Hall Manager, Assistant Hall Manager(s), and a group oResident Student Assistants who are there to help you
adjust to your new environment and are available to
discuss any issues or problems you may have during your
stay. Social events are planned throughout the year at
your chosen accommodation, giving you a great
opportunity to meet new people rom around the world.
One thing you can be sure o is that you will never lack
support. There is a large network o proessionals to turn
to within the University who can oer advice, and where
necessary a signpost to other internal/external

I you decide that living in university accommodation is not the right option
or you then you can chose to live in private accommodation. Properties can
be ound through Google searches or lettings agencies. In addition you can
use Studentpad, this site contains private rented accredited properties whichaccommodation sta have visited. We strongly recommend that you choose
a reputable landlord, preerably one who is accredited with the City o
Sunderland or one who is registered with a Letting Agent. To explore

code thereby providing students with inormation, reassurance and a
procedure to ollow i a dispute occurs. A ull version o the Student

The codes outline best practice and provide benchmarks or the
management and quality o student housing in the Higher Education sector,

Personal PossessionsInsuranceAs part o your university accommodation package you will receive personal
possessions insurance cover through Endsleigh. For urther inormation on

Car Parking and PermitsStudents living in university accommodation qualiy or

Environmental GoodPracticeSunderland University was the rst University in the
North East to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard
accreditation. The Carbon Trust Standard is the worlds
rst carbon award that requires an organisation to
measure, manage and reduce its carbon ootprint and
actually make real reductions year-on-year. The
University is proud o its achievements in this area and
is committed to environmental sustainability.
Residential Services seeks to reduce its carbon
emissions through greater environmental awareness and
control across all its accommodation monitoring closely
the areas o waste, energy and utilities, transport andprocurement to promote sound environmental
management policies. We encourage our residents to
save energy usage through simple measures, ranging
rom switching o lights, computer screens and phone
chargers to sharing the cooking o meals. In doing so our
residents will support the Universitys energy awareness
campaign The Big Turn O and collectively these small
measures can have a massive impact on the amount o
carbon produced by the University and help in achieving
our carbon reduction targets.
Smoke Free CampusThe University o Sunderland aims to promote the health
and well-being o its students, sta and visitors by
providing a smoke ree environment throughout the
University and its accommodation. Whilst acknowledging
that smoking is a matter o personal choice, the
University recognises the responsibility it has to the
majority o its students, sta and visitors who are
non-smokers and to all those who wish to live or study in
a smoke ree environment.

Data ProtectionThe University o Sunderland is registered as a data user
with the Oce o the Inormation Commissioner. The
University holds data relating to its students or a variety
o purposes including the management o student
accommodation, whereby the accommodation contract is
between the student and the University.
This means that the Accommodation Oce is not able to
enter into any discussions with a third party (including
parents and other amily members) unless the student
has given their permission (exceptional circumstances
apply as provided by law).
