In 2004 SCUK commissioned a 3 year

in-depth action research project to

explore the potential of genuine pupil

participation to improve schools. The

project manager, an experienced

teacher, worked with researchers in

eight London secondary schools be-

tween September 2004 and July

2007. Staff, students and the school

councils were encouraged to innovate,

explore and push the boundaries over

pupils. The research study explores

the impact of pupil councils on

School Council. But don’t forget that we back it all up with tailor-made training to help you and your

pupils fully understand what they should be achieving.

An effective School Council, with full reporting, is hugely beneficial in an OFSTED inspection.

Our licensed and experienced Trainers will come to your School and work with you and your School

Council to cover the aspects of Student Democracy and Citizenship that you feel need reinforcing or

expanding upon.
