However, the global economic slowdown resulted in a sharp correction in ARRs and occupancy rates from the second half of 2008-09. Going forward, despite an anticipated revival in room demand by 2010-11, players will not be able to hike ARRs significantly as the expected additions to room inventory will intensify competition, compelling hoteliers to focus on volumes to drive growth. Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad are expected to be among the worst-hit destinations, as the growth in supply is expected to far outpace that in demand.
