• Manufacturing as a driving force in the EU economy, (21% of GDP and 20% of all jobs)

• 25 industrial sectors, largely dominated by SMEs

• Need to produce more with less resources & less waste

• FP7 Themes involved: NMP, ICT

• Budget: € 1.2 billion in 4 years
