International collaboration is the key to success in Research & Development (R&D)

• Science was globalised much earlier than business

• Kazakhstan is a very attractive partner for international

R&D collaboration because it has:

(i) Long-term strategy for educating young generation to the

world leading standards;

(ii)Ambitious R&D strategy to become one of the top 30

countries in the world;

(iii)Rich natural resources

Opportunities for international collaboration

• Horizon 2020 – the main European Union (EU) research

funding

• Erasmus+ - the main EU funding for education

• Funding by individual countries, such as the UK (the

British Council, The Royal Society, Research Councils,

The Wellcome Trust)

• World Bank

• Direct private investment

Funding targets different beneficiaries:

• Research institutions

• Universities

• Private companies

• Governmental organisations
