1. OverviewHarbin Institute of Technology, Harbin ChinaHarbin Institute of Technology (HIT) was founded in 1920.

After 90 years, HIT has developed into a large nationally renowned multi-disciplinary university.

In 2004, HIT became the first university to fully construct, develop and launch micro-satellite in China. In 2008, HIT launched

its second micro-satellite, which is still working now.


1. OverviewResearch Center of Satellite Technology, HIT

Research Center of Satellite Technology (RCST) was founded in 1998. It occupies an area of about 6200m2, and has a staff of 23, and about 60 postgraduates. In 2004 and 2008, it launched its two micro-satellites.

Integrated on-board electronic equipment is sensitiveto radiation, the better radioprotection is demanded.

High-density integration also cause the heat-flowdensity increase, which requires the lightweight, low-power and efficient thermal control.


So, a new concept of multi-functional structure wasproposed for on-board electronicequipment panel.

The black side is smart thermal control coating, which can adjust its surface properties automatically according to its temperature. The white side is radioprotection coating.

The primary goal of TS-1 micro-satellite is todemonstrate several new microsatellite technologies,

attitude maneuver control with reaction wheels

Orbit: 600km sun-synchronous orbit

weight: 204 kg

The accuracy of attitude stability is about0.001 o/s, precision of attitude angular isabout 0.05o.

TS-1 is a cuboid structure of 1054×1089×1089mmdimensions, has four solar panels without SADAs. Formeeting the power requirements, the satellite will remainthe sun-pointing mode except for the imaging operationand data transmission period.
