Age representation

Within our opening sequence I feel we represented age well with what clothes most of our cast wore for example the antagonists and our victim wore hoods and more stylish jackets which are more common in younger people rather than older people. The antagonists also have their face covered which isnt so common in older members of the public.

This is also in contrast to the detective character who was made to look older by wearing a tie and a simple dark jacket. He was also made out to be drinking coffee, which again is more linked to older people rather than those that are younger.

I feel that within our opening sequence it is suggested that not all young people are hood wearing, knife wielding criminals but that in fact some are on the right path against these criminals.

Gender

There was only one female character in our opening sequence. She was a member of the CSI team and was dressed completely in white this gave her a somewhat angelic appearance as well as matching her role of protecting the dead in a way. This also matched the mise-en-scene of the film as the primary colours were black and white.

The males in the sequence were represented as either powerful, shady, hood wearing antagonists or the slightly dark, righteous protagonists. However the male victim was also contradictory to this as he was portrayed as shady and also wore a hood but was shown as a weak target for the antagonists.

comparisons

The characters of the film Attack the block are of similar age to our characters and are dressed in much the same way with hoods, facial coverings and dark clothes. This represents the characters age well as younger people are more likely to wear items of clothing like this than older people.

A lot of the characters in the film Kidulthood are also of similar ages to our characters and wear hoods, carry knives and represent the darker side of the youth in Britain today.

We can take a strong comparison from kidulthood and some from Attack the block as they both represent the younger generation in some stereotypical aspects but what the detective character in our sequence should be able to do is try and break that stereotypical picture.
