Report of Activities of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies during the period June 2016 – May 2017

With the blessings from Heavenly Patron “Sacred Heart of Jesus” and with the guidance and

support of our Chairman, Trustees, Advisory Board and Academic Council Members, Teachers,

Parents, Well wishers, Staff and students we could continue to maintain good reputation among

Arts & Science Colleges in the State. I am glad to present the report of Activities of Sahrdaya

College of Advanced Studies of the Academic Year 2016-‘17.

INTRODUCTION:

Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara has started functioning on 28 June,

2012 with four different Programmes such as B.Sc. Psychology, BCA, B.Com and BBA. Now,

in this academic year 2016-17, we are come up with 16 programmes in the UG level and 2

programmes in the PG level.

Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies was established in 2012, Sahrdaya College of

Advanced Studies (SCAS), a constituent Institution of IDET (Irinjalakuda Diocesan Educational

Trust), is a leading college for Arts & Science in South India, affiliated to Calicut University and

approved by Government of Kerala. Managed by Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of

Irinjalakuda. It has Mar Pauly Kannookkadan, Bishop of the Diocese as its Chairman, and

functions with the blessings of the Founder Chairman Mar James Pazhayattil, Premier Bishop of

the Diocese of Irinjalakuda. Sahrdaya has grown from the vision of Bishop Mar James

Pazhayattil, who sought to establish a great Catholic College in Kerala. SCAS aims to deliver

customized corporate & executive education that provides a contemporary & relevant learning

experience for students. The institution sets a benchmark to help shape up professionals for

touching the highest echelons in professional growth. SCAS has been awarded the Best College

Award 2015 from Kerala Students Union.

June 1 : Reopening after summer holidays

June 3 : World Environment Day Celebration

Environment day celebration of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies was held on 3rd

June, 2016. It was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.Titus Kattuparambil, Associate Executive Director of the Institution by handling over the sapling to the Principal Dr.K.J.Antony during morning assembly.Dr.Suma Paulose, Director of the College was also present. Key note address was done by Prof.V.G.Thampi, Dean of Language and Literature Department. The function came to an end with a poem recitation on nature. The programme was a grand success and the students were given awareness about their responsibilities towards nature.

June 9 : University Examination

IV Semester University Examination started on June 9.

2nd round of English Audit (IELTS) for faculty members

June 10 : Bodhaksharangal

In order to develop the reading habit among students, they were given books to read and presentations were done based on those books.

June 14 : Blood Donation Day

An awareness programme on blood donation was conducted on 14 th June 2016, Tuesday during the college assembly. Ms. Meenu of III B.Sc CS gave a talk on the benefits of donating blood, and the importance of blood to sustain life. They presented a video to make students aware of the importance of the day.

June 15 : Commencement of I Semester UG Programmes

June 17, 22 & 24 : Day Against Drug Abuse

Mr.Xavier Pallipadan, Resource person for Police academy, team member, Navachaithanya, Aloor and Mr. Vincent Njarekkadan, Councillor cum co-ordinator, Navachaithanya, Aloor delivered a speech to make the students aware about the ill effects of using drugs.

June 21 : International Yoga Day

Kum. Hannah Joseph, spoke on the relevance of Yoga in the modern world. She reminded the necessity of yoga for the mind and body and also mentioned about ’Yoga’ as a course in the coming academic years.

: Quiz

Quiz competitions were held in the month of June, July, August & September which gave importance to Malayalam, History and Hindi respectively.

June 22 : Reading Day Celebration

Department of Malayalam in Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies conducted ‘Vayanadinam’. Mr. Muraleedharan Aanapuzha, the writer, Childrens’ literature and social activist delivered a remarkable speech on the importance of reading and also recalled the time he spent together with P.N Panikker, the pioneer of the Library Movement in Kerala. As a part of the celebration students presented various literary reviews in different languages.

Associate Executive Director Fr. Titus Kattuparambil, Director Dr. Suma Paulose, Principal Dr. K.J. Antony and the Dean of Malayalam Department Prof. V.G. Thampi enriched

the celebration with their thoughts on the importance of reading.

June 23 : HOD Meeting

June 24 : Feast of our Patron (Sacred Heart of Jesus)

The day celebrated both the feasts of the Sacred Heart and of our college patron, Bishop, His Excellency Mar Pauly Kannookkadan. There was a Holy Mass on the occasion in which the Bishop was the main celebrant accompanied by other Reverent fathers. Mass was followed by a meeting. Dr. Abraham Vallath wished our patron with his wonderful words which included the historical significance of St.Paul. Fr. Titus Kattuparambil offered a fragrant souvenir, Dr. Suma Paulose, a bouquet bearing blossoms of love to the Bishop. Dr. K J Antony presented two pencil portraits of His Excellency which was the creation of our students. His highness gave his vision about this college and blessed the institution with his words. The meeting concluded with the festal song by our college choir.

June 26 : Association activity - “Meet a Great Mathematician” (Mathematics Dept)

As a part of Mathematics association, III sem Mathematics students conducted a program called “Meet a Great Mathematician”. The III sem Mathematics students were divided into 5 groups and each group should introduce a mathematician once in a month by mentioning his life history, achievements and contributions in the field in Mathematics. On Tuesday, 26th June, the first group comprising of Delina, Aiswarya, Alphy, Jerin, and Arathy introduced the great mathematician Thales of Miletus, who introduced his theory about creation without using

mythology. Exe.Director Fr.Titus Kattuparambil, HOD Dr. Rani M J were present in the program.

June 27 : Seminar on “Road Safety and Safe Driving”

A seminar on “Road Safety” was organised on 27. 06.2016 by the HR Department for the students of First year B.Com. The Seminar was conducted by Mr. Babu, Sub Inspector of Police, Traffic, Thrissur. The Seminar started at 11.30 am after the morning recess and ended at 2 pm. The students who participated in the programme were given lunch break after the completion of the session and their afternoon session classes started from 3 pm. Though the programme was initially planned to be organised at the Central Auditorium for all the First year students, due to the non-availability of the Central Auditorium, the programme was organised at the Seminar Hall with 320 students who had joined for the B. Com Course. The compere of the programme was Ms. Uma Narayanan, Programme Coordinator of the Department of English. The Seminar was schemed to be interactive with the speaker involving the students to elicit their opinion on topics of general interest. Videos related to road Safety were shown by Mr. Babu which were real eye openers for the audience. It really gave the students an insight on the do and don’ts to ensure safe driving.

: HOD Meeting

June 28 : Medical Camp for 1st year students

Health Club of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara organized a medical checkup camp from June 28thto July 21st, 2016. The medical checkup started after the inaugural session at 2: 00 pm in the presence of Director Dr. Suma Poulose & Principal Dr. K.J Antony. DR. Sr. Rejis, CHF and DR. V.J Paul inaugurated the medical camp by lighting the lamp. The convener of the Health Club welcomed the gathering. About 655 students were given medical checkup in 11 days

June 29 : Seminar on “Challenges and Opportunities in Banking”

A seminar on “Banking- Past, Present and Future” was organised on 29.06.2016 by the Department of Commerce for the students of Final year B.Com and second year B.Com Banking. The Seminar was conducted by Mr. R V Suresh Kumar, Regional Manager, State Bank of India, Thrissur region. The Seminar started at 2.40 pm with a prayer by the students of the commerce department followed by a Welcome Speech by the Head of the Department Prof.A.K.Simon. Mr.R V Suresh Kumar, addressed to the students on the origin of banking system, the evolution of the present day banking and also the future of banking in India. Mr. Kumar also gave various insights to the students on the practical side of banking operations like how the RTGS facility functions, the working of CDM machines etc

June 30 : Mathematics Association Inauguration

Mathematics association of SCAS was formally inaugurated by Prof.Markus Peter Brodmann, Professor –Zurich University, Switzerland on 30-06-2016 at 2.00pm in the college

seminar hall. Dr.Rani M.J, HOD delivered the welcome speech. Principal Dr. K J Antony felicitated the gathering. Inaugural ceremony came to an end with the vote of thanks by the association secretary Miss Dona Rose Paul. A talk on ‘Why to become a mathematician’ was delivered by the Chief guest Prof.Markus Peter Brodmann after the ceremony.

July 1 : Mehandi Competition in connection with Eid-ul-fitar

A Mehandi competition in connection with id-ul-fitr was held at Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara on 1stJuly 2016. 42 teams participated in the mehndi competition and Surumi Shajahan & Aiswarya C K of 1st B com Finance, Devika Suresh and Gopika Sanjith of 2nd year Physics bagged the first and second prize respectively

July 4-6 : Vanamahotsav Week Celebration

Computer Science And IT department in connection with Vanamaholsavam conducted various competitions like Painting, Essay Writing and Collage Making on 4th ,5th and 6th of July, 2016 respectively. The Vanamaholsavam vaaram ended up with valedictory function on 12th

August,2016, Ms Maya of Malayalam department gave a talk on the same from 1.30 – 3.10 pm.

July 11 : I Semester B.Sc CS & BCA PTA Meeting

The PTA meeting of 1st semester B.Sc CS and BCA was conducted on 11/07/2016 from 9am to 4pm in the Seminar hall. The registration started at 9am. The common gathering began by 9.30am with a silent prayer for the departed soul, His Excellency Bishop Mar James Pazhayattil. Ms.Sabitha P.C, in-charge of BCA, welcomed the gathering. Principal Dr. K.J Antony addressed the parents and gave briefing on college academic activities. Director Dr.Suma Poulose gave a talk on the overall extracurricular activities of the college. Associative Executive Director Rev.Fr. Titus Kattuparambil gave the details session about the importance of conduct and discipline and how to be Sahrdayan. The morning session winded up by 12.45pm and lunch was provided for the parents. Afternoon session started at 2pm. Prof. K A Siraj, Dean of Science summarized Calicut University norms regarding internals , assignment, and project also about the specialties of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies. Head of the Department Dr. Rani M J gave information about the internal marks calculation, importance of attendance and how effective parenting should be in this tech era. Ms.Suma.K.S proposed the vote of thanks. After the official gathering, parents along with the students met class-in-charges and the Associative Executive Director.

July 11, 12 & 14: Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp

An entrepreneurship awareness camp was organised by Department of Management studies July 11, 12 &14 -2016. The programme was scheduled in cooperation with department of Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The aim of the programme was to impart entrepreneurial skills to students other than management students. The programme was sponsored by SIDBI and KITCO

(Kerala Industrial Consultancy Organisation) was the training providers. The programme was arranged for 73 students of Physics, Chemistry and Maths altogether.

July 11th – the programme commenced with a formal Inauguration function in Aula Magna at 9.30am. The session was inaugurated by Mr. Dileep Kumar (Programme Coordinator Kitco Ltd). The session was blessed with presence of Prof. A.K Siraj (Dean of science), Prof. Babu Antony (HoD- Dept of Chemistry) and Mr. Savio Fernandez (Programme Director- Department of Management Studies). The first day was scheduled with three sessions led by different personalities from various fields of industry. They are Mr. Dileep Kumar, Mr. K.C Jose and Smt. Mini K.R. the sessions wound up by 4.00pm on the same day.

July 12th – The second was scheduled for industrial visit for all the students to Ollur Industrial Estate. The visit was arranged with students and two faculty members, Ms. Jesmy Antu and Ms. Jini K.P. The visit started by 9.15am and returned by 11.30am. the students got an opportunity to visit four different units of diversified area.

July 14th – The final day of the workshop started with the Mr. Rajeev (Director CB RSETTI, Thrissur). The following sessions was handled by various people, Sri. Ramachandran V.R, Mr. E.J Ananad and Ms. Gils K. Jose. The sessions mainly focussed on developing Entrepreneurial qualities, banking schemes to support SSI, Technology assistance and Project identification opportunities respectively. The workshop wound up by 3.00pm with a valedictory function. The certificates and feedback for students was delivered by Dr. Suma Paulose (Director-SCAS). The feedback from students was also collected and handed over to Kitco officials. The winding up session was blessed by the presence of Ms. Gils K.Jose (Principal Consultant – KITCO) Mr. Anand E.J (Senior Librarian-KITCO), Dr. Suma Paulose (Director- SCAS), Prof. A.K Siraj (Dean of Science), Prof. Babu Antony (HoD – Dept of Chemistry). The valedictory function wound up by 3.30pm. The students gave a positive feedback about the programme and their outlook about business and being an entrepreneur was modified and motivated. The trainers also recommended for more programmes in the college of similar nature.

July 12 : I B.Sc Chemistry and I B.Sc Physics PTA Meeting

The PTA meeting of Ist year BSc. Chemistry and Physics students was held on 12th July 2016. Registration of parents started at 9.00 am. Programme started at 9.30 with prayer song of college choir. Prof.Babu Antony (H.O.D of chemistry)delivered welcome speech. It was followed by the message of Principal Dr.K.J.Antony. After the message, executive director Rev. Fr.Titus Kattuparambil addressed the parents. Tea break was given from 11.30 – 11.45. After the break, Dr.Karuna. K (Training & Development Manager) gave a briefing of non-academic matters. After that Prof. Babu Antony introduced the 2 class teachers to the parents and it was followed by the self-introduction of students along with parents. Morning session was over by 1.00p.m. Lunch break was from 1.00-1.45pm.In the afternoon session Prof.K.A.Siraj (Dean of Science department) addressed the parents about scope and academic matters of Physics. Then Prof.Babu Antony discussed the scope of chemistry and academic matters with parents. Ms. Greeni K.I. (Programme Director of Chemistry Dpt.) explained various non-academic activities of the current year. At the end vote of thanks was delivered by Ms.JessyTharian(Chemistry

department). It was followed by individual meeting of parents with class teachers and the PTA meeting was over by 3.30 pm.

: Industrial Visit

On 12th July 2016, the department of science had organized an industrial visit for the students of III semester to Ollur industrial estate (JAJ equipment industries). We reached their around by 10:30am. We were first of all taken to the kitchen manufacturing area were we saw different catering equipments, freezers, coolers etc. we were accompanied by a guide to explain about the products manufacturing. Then we saw making of different companies packing covers like Eastern, Nirapara Company etc. Each process was done at a great speed and different machineries. The next place was the making of glass and mirrors, which was very interesting. Then we saw the manufacturing of nails. The students were amazed at the speed at which the process occurred. The visit concluded in the afternoon. The industrial visit to JAJ equipment industry was an enriching experience for all students.  

July 14 : First Semester B.Sc Psychology PTA Meeting

Ms. Karuna Nair, gave a brief introduction of Sahrdaya. The starting of the college, the developments and achievements of the college, an overall outlook of the college. She briefly described the Add-ons provided by the college, the use of it and how it can help the students to excel in their lives. Ms. Nandini Mohanan, Program Director of the Department, gave a brief description of the add-ons we had in the past few academic years and also gave an idea about the future visions for the department. She reminded the parents that each add-on will help the students to improve in their own spheres of live.After this PTA members were selected. Members of the committee are Moly Mathai (mother of Anju Mathai) and Sanjayan (father of Anashwara).At 3:30pm, we concluded the meeting with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sini Paulson(Department of Psychology). After the meeting parents were given time to talk personally with the class teacher.

July 15 : First Semester B.Sc Mathematics PTA Meeting

Department of Mathematics and Malayalam conducted PTA meeting for Ist semester Mathematics and Malayalam students on 15-07-2016 Monday at 9.30 am. Meeting started with prayer. Ms.Indu venugopal welcomed the gathering. Dr.Rani M.J. HOD of Mathematics and Pro.V.G.Thampi HOD of Malayalam briefly explained about the examination and academic matters. Director Dr.suma poulose, addressed the gathering and also gave the guidelines and instructions which should be maintained in the campus, alerted the parents about the student’s discipline and study habits. Programme directors Ms.Sini.K.P and Ms.Shiji.V.K explained the non-academics and add-on courses provided for the last year 2015-16 and also the same proposed for the academic year 2016-17. In the interactive session, teachers and parents mainly discussed about the pattern of study, the details of class tests. The session ended with the vote of thanks of Ms.Neethu.K.

July 18 : First Semester B.Com Finance PTA Meeting

The PTA meeting of 1st semester B.com Finance students held on 18th July 2016 at the seminar hall. The programme includes both the 1st semester B.Com Computer Application and B.com Finance students’ parents. It was a full day session with 101 parents and 84 students. The meeting started with registration from 9.00 am to 9.30 am. The common meeting began at 9.30 am with prayer and welcome speech was given by Mr. Rexon Jose, 1st semester B.Com CA class animator. After that the Principal Dr. K J Antony, talked about the academic level of performance to be achieved by each students. And also mentioned about the upcoming internal exams in the month of August 2016. Next, Dr. V J Thomas (Department Head of Professional Education) spoke about the details of professional studies. After, lunch break the session was handled by the Associate Executive Director Rev. Fr. Titus Kattuparambil, who spoke about the various aspects and development of student in college education. Father highlighted the achievements of the college in all its academic and non- academic activities. Next, Director Dr. Suma Paulose talked about the expected development of each student after spending 3 years of their studies at Sahrdaya College. And the last part of PTA meeting was held by Prof. Simon A K (Head of the Department) and Dr. Karuna K Nair (Programme Director) about academic and non- academic matters.

The PTA executive members have been selected from 1st semester Finance. The two members are

1. Vineetha Paul (Parent of Angel Paul)2. Govindankutty ( Parent of Malvika G)

Ms. Sneha.V (1st B.com Finance animator) expressed the vote of thanks and the session was ended with the individual meeting of parents with class-in -charge at 3.00 pm to 4.30 p.m.

July 19 : I Semester B.Com professional PTA Meeting

The meeting of first semester B.COM professional studies was held on 19 th July 2016. The meeting started at 9.30 with prayer and was followed by welcome speech by Mrs.Seena Alappatt. Dr.Suma Poulose, Director talked about the discipline maintained in the college campus. Exec.Director Rev.Fr.Titus Kattuparambil provide instructions to the parents and students. Principal Dr.K.J Antony gave a briefing on the academic matters. The second session was started at 1.45pm.Dean, Prof.K.B Pavithran explained the academic excellence. Prof.V.J Thomas, Dean provide a clear picture about the various professional courses. There is an interactive session. This session was handled by Prof.V.J Thomas.

: Hyde Park Presentations during the year 2016-‘17

Hyde Park refers to an open space for speaking where debate and discussions are allowed. The popular north-east corner of Hyde Park in London constitutes the base for our college Hyde Park. The activity commenced in the college during the academic year 2014-’15. Since its beginning, there was a huge crowd pull.This year (2016-’17), the activity commenced on July 19th, Tuesday. Agrim Prakash, final year BBA student introduced the idea of technological advancement of the state and its impacts. This was a first experience to the new corners of the college. Many of them became suddenly interested to be the part of the activity.The non- academic activity develops the concentration, observation, patience and many other life skills and values of a youngster. It helps them to think more and how to present their views in the public. This helps an individual to look into the various opinions with which the society moves on. The students who held the sessions were Bright Sebastian, Jivin Job Chittillapilly, Anaswara Nair, Sarika K, Tessa Maria, Akhila S Nair. We missed the opportunities of other wonderful speakers due to some academic programmes of the college.Department of English feels great satisfaction to continue the activity successfully to the coming academic years.

July 20 : Chemistry and Physics Association Inauguration

The programme started at 2.00pm with the prayer song of college choir. Prof.K.A.Siraj (Dean of science department and H.O.D. of physics department) delivered the welcome speech. Presidential address was given by Dr.K.J.Antony (Principal). It was followed by the felicitation of Rev.Fr.Titus Kattuparambil (Executive Director).After that Dr.C.V.Krishnan, the educationalist, scientist and U.S. president award winner inaugurated the function and he gave the inaugural speech. Prof.K.A.Siraj presented the memento to the chief guest. Vote of thanks was given by the association secretary Miss.Aathira Rajeevan (3rdsem physics).The key note address given by the chief guest on the topic “Science for fun” was interesting and at the same time informative. In connection with the association inauguration there was interdisciplinary quiz competition of 4 teams from the students of 4 different classes of physics and chemistry. The prize distribution was done by Prof.K.A.Siraj. The meeting was over by 4. 30 pm.

July 21 : V Semester B.Com Banking, Finance & C A PTA MeetingThe first PTA meeting of V semester B.Com BANKING, FINANCE & COMPUTER

APPLICATION was held on 21stJuly 2016 at seminar hall. It was a half-day session. The meeting started with a registration at 12:30 pm. And from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm an individual meeting of parents with teachers was undertaken. The common meeting began at 2.00 pm with prayer and welcome speech was given by Ms. Siji Jaison from Commerce Department. Dr.Suma Paulose, Director, handled the aspects of college discipline and etiquette. Dr. Karuna Nair, Programme Director of Department of Management Studies addressed the parents with the various add-on programmes provided by college and upcoming activities of B.Com Department. Dr.K.J.Antony, Principal has given valid instructions on the overall development of a student.

July 21 : Paper Presentation Competition on BREXIT organised by SMART

Department of Management Studies organised a paper presentation competition on “BREXIT – An analysis on Britain, Indian and World economy”. The competition was organised for second year and third year students of BBA batch on 21st July 2016. The competition has two rounds, preliminary round in class and final round on stage. Two teams from each batch were selected to the final round and the time duration for each team was 12 minutes each. The teams selected to the finals are Espirit De Corps and Cubical force of final year BBA and Magnates and Aspiring Tycoons of second year BBA. The competition was held from 9.00am to 11.15am in seminar hall. The judges for the competition were Mr. Mestin P.C, Asst. Professor of St. Thomas College Thrissur and Ms. Sheena Sara Winny of English department. The function was a grand success and the event was coordinated by final year students of BBA batch. The function started with a prayer and followed by Welcome speech by Ms. Athulya Rose john of II year BBA. The winners of the competition were;

3rd : Magnates – II year BBA.

July 22 : V Semester B.Sc Psychology PTA Meeting

The Department of Psychology conducted its first PTA for the III BSc Psychology students on 22nd July, 2016 from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. The afternoon session began with a prayer followed by the welcome address given by Ms.Nandini Mohanan, the faculty in the Psychology department.Dr. Rani M J, the Head of the Mathematics Department, addressed the parents and students and gave a brief description about the programs and activities that are taken up by the mathematics department for the betterment of the students. She also mentioned about the add-on courses and extracurricular activities of the department. Dr. Sr Jessy, the Head of the Psychology

Department, addressed the parents and students and gave a brief description about the programs and activities that are taken up by the psychology department. She also mentioned about the importance of good parental support in the role of students life. Dr. K.J.Antony, the Principal, addressed the students and their parents. He briefed about the curriculum followed by the college. He also gave a brief description about course, the methods and techniques we use to undergo, the exam pattern, etc. He also mentioned that if students are caught by malpractices during examination they will be given serious punishments. At 3:00 pm, Individual consultation of parents with class teacher was done. Parents were given a brief report on the performance of the students in the academic realm .At the end of the meeting, PTA members for the current academic year was selected. Mr. Baby, father of Nayana Baby and Mrs. Jayanthi, mother of Chaitra PM. At 3:30pm, we concluded the meeting with a vote of thanks. After the meeting parents were given time to talk personally with the class teacher.

July 22 : V Semester B.Sc Mathematics PTA Meeting

Department of Mathematics conducted PTA meeting for 5th semester Mathematics students on 22-07-2016 Friday at 2.00 pm. Meeting started with the prayer. Ms.Nandini of Psychology department welcomed the gathering. Dr.Rani M.J. HOD, briefly explained about the examination and academic matters. Principal Dr.K.J Antony explained all the academic matters like the details about internal exams, project, and university exams. He mainly gave stress to the importance of attendance. He also mentioned about the 1 week tour that should be conducted in August or September. Dr.Sr.Jessy of Psychology department explained about the points that should be followed by parents for the physical and mental development of a student. Mr. Joseph P.A, father of Juliya Joseph and Mrs.Anitha, mother of Sreelekha were selected as PTA executive members of this academic year. In the interactive session teachers and parents mainly discussed about the pattern of study and the details of class tests. The session ended with the vote of thanks of Ms.Indu Venugopal. Also interaction of parents with class teacher held from 12.30-2.00pm and from 3.15-4.15pm

July 22 : Workshop on “How to be a Key employee”

A workshop on “How to be a Key employee” was organised on 22. 07.2016 by the Department of Commerce for the students of Second year B.Com. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Adarsh P R a Corporate trainer. The workshop was conducted in two batches at Aula Magna. The first batch consisted of 112 students from second year B.Com Finance and CA. The second batch consisted of B.Com Banking, Coop and CHA. The morning batch started at started at 11 am with a silent prayer. Welcome Speech in both the batches were delivered by Ms. Neethu Nazar, faculty member of B.Com and a student from each batch rendered the vote of thanks.

July 25 : Inauguration of Management Studies Association

Department of Management Studies inaugurated its association (SMART – Shardaya Management Association for Refining Talents) for the academic year 2016-17 on Monday 25thJuly 2016. July 26 : Workshop on “International Marketing and global outlook on career”

Department of Management studies organised a workshop on “International Marketing and global outlook on career” on Tuesday 26th July 2016 by DR. Justin Paul – Professor, Puerto Rico University, USA. The workshop organised for selected students from first, second and third year students of BBA. Totally 31 students from different batches attended the programme. The function began at 9.30am in Aula Magna with a silent prayer. The welcome speech was delivered by Asst. Professor Savio Fernandez. The programme was divided into two sessions, in the first session DR. Justin Paul specified about International Marketing in a global perspective and in the second session the career opportunities for students outside India was the area of stress. The students participated well in the programme and were very satisfied in the programmes. The workshop came to an end by 12.30pm with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. John Anto of 5th semester BBA. July 27 : Math Quiz

The department of mathematics had conducted Quiz competition in order to form a Quiz team. The competition had three phases. The first phase was conducted on 27th July 2016.There were 90 students from different departments and 33 students were eligible to enter into the second phase. The second phase was conducted on 4th August 2016 and 12 students were eligible to enter into the third phase. The final phase was conducted on 17 th August 2016 at 1.30 Pm in the seminar hall. The Head of the department Dr.Rani MJ was the Quiz master of the event. There were 4 rounds in the final phase.

Prof.Savithry Lakshmanan, the Chief Guest of the day, interacted with students on the topic “How rain influenced literature” in this beautiful programme. Then Mr.Njeraleth Harigovindan introduced the various nuances behind the instrument ‘Idakka’ through his performance. Poster presentation were also held during the same on “Rain & Literature”

Aug 4 : Inauguration of English AssociationDepartment of English conducted the inauguration of association on 4th August 2016 at

1.45 pm in the seminar hall. Dr. Sanil Raj Johnson, Associate Professor of St. Thomas College Thrissur, was the chief guest. Professor Andrews Joseph, senior faculty of the department, welcomed him. Dr. Sanil Raj inaugurated the association by lighting the lamp and rendered a talk on the topic ‘Drama: A Literary Perspective’. He explained to students the history of drama right from the ancient Greek to the modern period. Following the talk, there was an interactive session. Asst. Prof. Dhanisha K.S., department secretary, formally delivered the vote of thanks. The inaugural session winded up by the screening of the classical movie Duck Soup.

: CS & IT Association Inauguration

Association inauguration of CS & IT department was conducted on 04/08/2016 from 10:00 am to 12.00 pm at Seminar hall. The common gathering began by 10.00 am with a prayer. Dr Rani M J, HOD of CS&IT, welcomed the gathering. Followed by lightening the lamp and Inaugural speech by Mr. Balamurali Lakshmanan, Director - Quality & Testing Group at SFO Technologies (P) Ltd. Dr Rani M J, HOD delivered the oath for the new office bearers of CS and IT department. The formal gathering concluded with vote of thanks by Ms Analet Mariya, Student Secretary. The Common gathering winded up by 10.45. Mr Balamurali Lakshmann conducted a technical session on the topic ‘the shrunken world’ . Ms Alphin Vincent put forward the vote of thanks. The technical session came to an end at 12.00 PM

Aug 5 : Inauguration of Fresher’s Day & Indoor Stadium Inauguration

In the academic year 2016 -17, the Fresher’s Day Celebration was conducted with variety of programs on 5th August 2016. The function was inaugurated by Mar.Pauly Kannookadan (Chairman of IDET & Sahrdaya Group of Institutions) at 9.30 am. The presidential address was delivered by Msgr. Lazar Kuttikkadan (President Of IDETt & Manager Of Sahrdaya Group of Institutions). After the inaugural function, there were cultural programs organized by second year and third year students. An orientation on Saptha Sadas was given by Prof. V.G. Thampi (Dean of Language Department) on the same day. Later the first year students participated in various fun games conducted by the senior students. The programme came to an end at 12.30 pm with college anthem.

The newly renovated college indoor stadium blessing and inauguration was held on 5 th

August 2016 at 2.00 pm. The stadium was blessed by Msgr.. Lazar Kuttikkadan (President Of IDET& Manager Of Sahrdaya Group of Institutions), inaugurated by DR.Zakir Husain (Dean of Physical Education, Calicut University) and lighting of the lamp was done by C.V.Sunny. After the formal function, a friendly shoot out competitions was conducted between our college’s boys and girls basket ball team. Then a friendly Basket Ball match was conducted by college for Sree Kerala Varma College ,Thrissur and Sacred Heart College Thevara. The match was won by Sree Kerala Varma College ,Thrissur. The prizes were distributed to both the teams and then the function ended with National Anthem.

: Research Methodology Class

Department of English conducted a class on Research Methodology for all the faculty members on 5th August 2016 at 11.30 am in seminar hall. Dr. C J. Davees, one of the senior faculty members of English Department, addressed the faculty members. Ms.Sandhya K.s formally welcomed him to the gathering. He imparted the audience a bird’s eye view on the necessity, facts as well as objective of research and how to choose a topic, how a supervisor should be, research methodology, first draft and about final draft. After the class he cleared the doubts of the recipients. Overall it was a very informative session which clarifies the doubts of the research aspirants. The class extended up to 12.30 pm. The session was winded up by a formal vote of thanks rendered by Neena P of English department.

Independence Day Celebration:The Independence Day celebration was organised by the college HR Department and was

held on 12.08.2015. The welcome address of the programme was delivered by Prof. V J Thampi, Dean of Language and Literature. The Chief Guest of the programme was Mr. Jayaraj Warrier the famous caricaturist, TV artist and anchor, who was welcomed by Fr. Titus Kattuparambil the Executive Director. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Jayaraj Warrier, in the presence of Fr. Titus Kattuparambil the Executive Director, Dr. Suma Poulose, Director and Dr. K J Antony the Principal of the College. Mr. Warrier after the inauguration gave the inaugural address and also enthralled the audience by singing a famous Malayalam number. Also the students proudly received the prizes from Mr. Warrier. During the celebrations students from various departments organised a variety of cultural programmes based on Patriotism like Rangapooja, Mime, Independence day theme dance, Independence day speech in English as well as in Hindi and also the college choir performed a group song based on patriotism. Faculty members of all the departments as well as non teaching staff were part of the august gathering to commemorate the 70th Independence Day.

Aug 18 : Study Tour of III Semester B.Sc Physics

Department of Physics organized a study tour for the third semester BSc. Physics students to Peringalkuthu hydroelectric power station on 18/08/2016. Out of 23 students, 20 students attended the study tour. The students were accompanied by Prof. K.A.Siraj (HOD) and the class animator Ms. Nimmy Nair. The journey started from SCAS by 9.15am and reached the destination by 10.30am. The students were explained various stages of power generation and the working of turbines. We returned from the power station by 12 noon and thereby reached

: Study Tour of III Semester B.Sc Computer Science

On 18/08/2016 29 students of B.Sc Computer science and 3 staff Mr.Mahesh.P, Ms.Anima Vincent C and Ms.Anu Joseph with tour Co-Ordinator Mr.Rohith started our trip to Nelliyampathy at 7.00.a.m with a prayer. On the way we stopped at Pothundi dam at 9.30.a.m to have the breakfast and enjoy the scenic beauty of dam, forest and fields. We started to Nelliyampathy at 10.30.a.m from Pothundi dam. We arrived at Seetharkundu the suicide point at Nelliyampathy at 11.30.a.m.After spending an hour at the Seetharkundu we had our lunch at the place. At 1.30.p.m we started to the forest reserve to enjoy the Karapara waterfalls. After parking the bus alongside we went to the destination in 4 different jeeps. Of road ride was 16k.m. long one which led to the Karapara waterfall. After spending an hour at the karapara waterfalls we started our journey to the forest check post from where we boarded the bus and started back to college at 5.45.p.m. On the way we had some refreshments .We reached the college at 8.45.p.m. We collected Rs.690 from each student.

: Study Tour of III Semester B.Sc ChemistryDepartment of Chemistry organized a study tour for the third semester BSc. Chemistry

students to Hindustan Insecticide Limited, Ambalamukal on 18/08/2016. All 24 students attended the study tour. The students were accompanied by Prof. Babu Antony Menachery (HOD) and the class animator Ms. Greeni K I. We started from SCAS by 9.15am and reached the destination by 10.30am. The students were explained various stages of insecticide production and the working of plants on the basis of various chemical reactions. We returned from the company by 12 noon and thereby reached Thumbormuzhy at 1pm. Students enjoyed the natural beauty. We arrived at the college by 5.15pm.

: Study Tour of III Semester BA EnglishSahrdaya College of Advanced Studies conducted one day tour for II year BA English

students on 18 August 2016 to Mattanchery and Fort Kochi. They visited the places having historical importance like Jew Palace ,Jain Temple, Hill Palace, Jew Street and so on. Prof.Andrews Joseph, Ms.shiji V.K,Ms.Supriya Valsan accompanied the students. The trip was an amazing experience for the students.

Commerce Association “ Res Novae 2016 “-An Association Of Innovative Ideas was inaugurated ON 19th August 2016 by Dr .B. We arrived at Seetharkundu the suicide point at Nelliyampathy at 11.30.a.m.After spending an hour at the Seetharkundu we had our lunch at the place. At 1.30.p.m we started to the forest reserve to enjoy the Karapara waterfalls. After parking the bus alongside we went to the destination in 5 different jeeps. Of road ride was 16k.m. long one which led to the Karapara waterfall. After spending an hour at the karapara waterfalls we started our journey to the forest check post from where we boarded the bus and started back to college at 5.45.p.m. On the way we had some refreshments. We reached the college at 9.30.p.m. We collected Rs.650 from each student.

: Study Tour of III Semester B.Sc Mathematics

The department of mathematics has arranged a one day trip to nelliyampathy which is 60kilomtres from Palakkad for second year students on 19 august 2016.The main aim of the trip was to give a relaxation for students from their studies and for moulding their relations with teachers. Three teachers Ms.Jesmy, Ms.Athira and Ms.Jinu accompanied twenty three students for the trip. We started the trip at 6:45am from the college. Almost all students from the department and others joined on the way. We reached pothundy dam by 9:15am. We had our breakfast from there and spent almost an hour there. It had been a good experience. On our way we saw many beautiful scenery. From pothundy dam we went to seetharkundu where one can have a fantastic valley view and a 100m high waterfall providing an added attraction. We had our lunch there. By 1:30pm we left from there. We were divided into a group of 9 members and each group was given a jeep. The jeep safari through tea gardens was a thrilling and exciting experience and we had also shopping from there. We reached college at by 9:30pm. It had been a great experience for students as well as teachers.

Aug 26 : III Semester BBA Study Tour

Department of Management Studies organised a one day study tour for 3rd semester BBA students on Friday, 26th August 2016. The visit was arranged to Nelliampathy Palakkad. The tour consisted of 17 boys and 23girls with total of 40 students. Two teachers also accompanied them, Mr. Savio Fernandez and Mrs. Asha Alphonse. The travelling expense was completely borne by the college and students had only to spend their individual breakfast and lunch expenses. The

visit started at 7.45 from college and reached Pothundi dam by 11.00am. From there we started by 12.00pm to Nelliampathy and reached there by 1.00pm. Lunch was arranged at Greenland farmhouse and after lunch we started for site seeing to manpara view point. From manpara view point we went to pet farm of Greenland and returned back from nelliampathy by 5.30pm. We reached college by 8.30pm and all students dispersed with their parents

Sep 5 : Teachers’ Day Celebration

We celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th September 2016 with much pomp and fervor. The day’s celebrations started by inaugural function. It was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.Bobby Jose Kattikad at 10.00 am. After the formal function different cultural programs of students and also staff took place. The students of all the departments came out with various dance and music performance to show their love and respect to their teachers. The session concluded at 1.00 pm with the College Anthem.

: Fresher’s Day Celebration

In the academic year 2016 -17, the Fresher’s Day Celebration was conducted with variety of programs on 5th August 2016. The function was inaugurated by Mar.Pauly Kannookadan (Chairman of IDET & Sahrdaya Group of Institutions) at 9.30 am. The presidential address was delivered by Msgr. Lazar Kuttikkadan (President Of IDET & Manager Of Sahrdaya Group of Institutions). After the inaugural function, there were cultural programs organized by second year and third year students. An orientation on Saptha Sadas was given by Prof. V.G. Thampi (Dean of Language Department) on the same day. Later the first year students participated in various fun games conducted by our senior students. The programme came to an end at 12.30 pm with college anthem.

: Indoor Stadium Inauguration

The blessing and inauguration of newly renovated college indoor stadium was held on 5 th

August 2016 at 2.00 pm. The stadium was blessed by Msgr. Lazar Kuttikkadan (President of IDET& Manager of Sahrdaya Group of Institutions), inaugurated by DR.Zakir Hussain (Dean of Physical Education, Calicut University) and lamp lighting was done by C.V.Sunny. After the formal function, a friendly shoot out competitions was conducted between our college’s boys and girls basket ball team. Then a friendly Basket Ball match was conducted by college for Sree Kerala Varma College , Thrissur and Sacred Heart College Thevara. The match was won by Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur. The prizes were distributed to both the teams and then the function ended with National Anthem.

: PTA meeting III Semester BA English

The Department of Language and Literature conducted parents meeting of III Semester BA English and Malayalam students on 06/09/2016. Keynote address was delivered by the Executive Director Fr. Titus Kattuparambil. HOD of the English Department, Prof. Verghese Kalliyath delivered the welcome address followed by the non-academic briefing of the Director Dr.Suma Paulose and the academic briefing of the principal Dr. K.J Antony. Parent representatives were selected from both the departments’ .Mr. Jaison father of Anagha Jaison, Rolly Sabu Mother of Akhiya Sabu and Shibu T.V F/o of Anoushka, Parvathy M/o of Vismaya were selected parent representatives of English and Malayalam departments respectively. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Shiji V.K. of Malayalam department.

Sep 7 : PTA meeting III Semester Bsc. Physics & Chemistry

The PTA meeting of 3rd semester B.Sc. Physics and Chemistry classes were conducted on 7th September 2016. The meeting, which was held in the afternoon (from 1.00 pm- 4.30 pm) was attended by the parents. Registration started at 1pm and the parents had been given the time to meet the teachers till 2pm. The official gathering began at 2pm with prayer and was followed by a welcome speech by Prof.K.A.Siraj. The non-academic activities of the college were briefed by Dr.Suma Paulose (Director) and the academic briefing was done by the principal, Dr.K.J.Antony. Executive Director Rev.Fr.Titus Kattuparambil led an interaction session with parents, followed by an election of PTA committee. The meeting was concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Babu Antony Menachery followed by the college anthem.

Sep 8 : PTA meeting III Semester B.Sc Mathematics

Department of Mathematics conducted PTA meeting for 3rd semester Mathematics students on 08-09-2016 Thursday at 2.00 pm. Meeting started with prayer. Dr.Rani M.J, HOD welcomed the gathering. Dr.K.J Antony, Principal, briefly explained about the examination and academic matters. Director Dr.Suma poulose addressed the gathering and also gave the guidelines and instructions which should be maintained in the campus. In the interactive session, teachers and parents mainly discussed about the pattern of study, the details of class tests and add-on courses. Mr Babu K.R and Mrs Priya shivadas were selected as PTA executive members of this academic year. The session ended with the vote of thanks of Ms.Anima Vincent.

: Psychology Association Inauguration - 2016

Psychology Association Inauguration was held at September 8 th Thursday, 2016 by Dr.K. Manikandan, Head of the Department, Department of Psychology, Calicut University. The inauguration started by invoking the presence of God. The welcome address was given by Head of the Department, Psychology. Inaugural ceremony was done by Dr. K. Manikandan followed by an inaugural speech. A one hour talk on Research Methodology was addressed by Dr.

Manikandan to whole students of Psychology Department students. The meeting was dispersed at 1.00 PM.

Sep 8 & 9 : Onam Celebration

Onam celebration started on 8th September 2016 at 10 am by the ‘Payasam Mela’- a payasam competition by the teachers. From each department teachers participated by making delicious payasams, which was judged by our Director, Principal and Finance Officer. Ms.Jessy Tharian of Department of Chemistry emerged as the first prize winner, while Ms. Sabitha P C of CS & IT Department secured the second place, Ms.Uma Narayan of English Department secured the third position. There was also the Thiruvathirakali Competition on the same day at 3 pm which was judged by Mr.George, the Thiruvathirakali Trainer and Ms. Sathi, of the Professional Department.

The main celebration was conducted on 9th September 2016. There was Maveli and Vamanan competition which were held class wise, Malayalimanka, Purushakesari and Pookalam competition were conducted department wise and Vanchipattu and Tug of war were group wise competitions. Also friendly tug of war match between our staff and winners of student’s Tug of war were also held. The onam celebration on 9th September started with the ceremonial procession of Maveli’s and Vamanan’s as our chief guest, accompanied by our Exe.Director, Director & Principal, with the accompaniment of chendamelam and pulikali at 9 am from the college main entrance to our auditorium. Then the Best Maveli and Best Vamanan competitions were held which was followed by Malayalimanka & Purushakesari competition and finally Vanchipattu competition was conducted. The prizes were distributed to all the winners of the competition.

Also, we released the Onapathippu, Magazine by Malayalam Department and Laureola, the College Magazine on the same occasion. The morning session concluded with the prize distribution which was followed by an elaborate Kerala Sadya which was enjoyed by the entire college. After that the interesting tug of war competition was held. The Onam Celebration was coordinated by the HR Department in joint association with the various Saptha Sadas committees like Thiruvathirakali by Chuvadu, Vanchipattu by Swaram, Pookalam by Niram & Roopam and finally Tug of War by Drishyam. The celebrations ended by a concluding talk by the Principal Dr.K.J.Antony.       

Sep 9 : Release of Laureola September 2016

The charge of publication of the 5th anniversary special edition of Laureola was assigned to department of Physics and Chemistry.The preliminary discussion for electing the committee members was held on 15th June 2016. Ms.Nimmy Nair of department of physics and Ms. Jessy Tharian of department of Chemistry were elected as the editor and sub-editor respectively. Panjikaran James Donnie was elected as the student editor. The student executives were sent to different departments to collect the informations and continual meetings were held to compile the collected informations. The release of the 5th anniversary special edition of Laureola was held on 9th September 2016.

Sep 24 : Seminar on peep into It Industry and Networking

Computer science and IT Department organized a half day seminar for third year Bsc CS and BCA students on the topic a peep into IT INDUSTRY AND NETWORKING. The seminar begins with the prayer and a welcome speech by Radhika of 5 th sem BSC CS followed by technical session and it was handled by Mr. Job Thomas, Mr.Jeevan of Rampus Institute, Chalakudy on 24/09/2016 from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm. The seminar ended up with a vote of thanks and it was put forward by Ms. Vismaya.

Oct 4 : Launching of Sahrdaya Club FM

As a part of Radio Revolution, a venture of club FM, Thrissur, a college radio was started in Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara on October 4, 2016. With the name ‘SRJ’s’ Sahrdaya FM was started with the intention of going ON AIR from Monday to Friday during lunch intervals. From 146 students who registered their names for auditions, 20 students were selected as RJ’s. Sahrdaya College FM sprung with a team of 20 RJ’s and Staff co-ordinator Ms. Sandhya K.S. Radio Revolution campaign is lead by CLUB FM Programme Head Manoj Kammath and RJ Leo. By next year let us make it wishfully true that SRJ’s will flourish as one of the best college FM’s of Kerala. 26 students from Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies accompanied by Mr.Daniel Francis and Ms.Pretty Kiran, participated in DAKSH 2016 held in DIST Angamaly on 4 th& 5th October 2016.Our students participated in 6 group events and 2 individual events. Mr. Agrim Prakash, BBA V semester student was selected as best manager and we got third position in photography event. In business quiz and best management team events our students entered in to semifinal. All the programmes came to an end at 5.30 pm .

On 7th October 2016, the “YOUTH FEST 2K16” ticket releasing was done by famous Malayalam Film director Sri. Priyanandanan. In each venue there was a committee which consisted of person in charges for Announcement, Overall coordination, Time Management, Sound, Discipline, Refreshment and Result. The competitions were judged by very efficient judges from outside the college.

The ELDORADO 2K16 – Off Stage competitions were held on 7 th November 2016 to 11th November 2016.All the competitions under the sadas ‘Niram’ was coordinated by Ms.Greeni K.I. of Department of Science and Mr.Renjith.M. Of Department of CS and IT. Painting-Water Color, Oil Painting, Pencil Drawing, Cartoon, Embroidery, Collage and Poster Making was held on Aula Magna and Pookalam and Clay Modelling at corridor of Central Auditorium.

The competitions under the sadas ‘Aksharam’ was coordinated by Ms.Maya of Department of Malayalam. The competitions were held in III B.Com Finance class in the order of Essay, Story Writing,Versification in English, Malayalam. Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit, Urdu and Arabic.

The results and points were updated continuously after completing each item. The points for Ist, IInd and IIIrd for group item is 10, 6 and 2 and for individual item 5, 3 and 1 respectively. The winners of on stage competitions of ELDORADO 2K16 are as follows:

16.11.2016- Day 1- Management fest

The Youth fest of this year was a four day event from 16th Nov 2016 to 19th Nov 2016. The event marked its beginning with the Management fest conducted by the Departments of Commerce and Management on 16th November in which more than -----colleges participated. There were 6 events.

The Faculty coordinated the event was Ms. Sandhya Mahesh of the Department of Commerce and Mr. Astrin of 2nd year B.Com (finance) was the Student coordinator and there were Faculty in charges as well as student coordinators for all the games. The registration process started at the counters outside the main gate of the campus exactly at 8.30 am and continued till 10.30 am. The formal inauguration of the management fest was initiated by Mr. Wilson Kandamkulathy, the Chairman of Pathrose Vaidyans Kandamkulathy Ayurveda Pharmacy by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Simon A K, Head of the Department of Commerce and the vote of thanks was rendered by Ms. Sandhya Mahesh the convener of the event.

The day closed with the Prize distribution ceremony which was preceded by a dance performance by the Sahrdayans. The students from Holy Grace Academy, Mala emerged as the Overall Champions of the event.

17.11.2016- Day 2- Job Fair and Sports fest

Day 2 of the event consisted of the SCAS Job EXPO 2016 and the Sahrdaya Sports Meet.

The Preliminary round of the various Sports events were conducted on 11.11.2016, Saturday where students from various schools had participated in events like Basket ball, Shuttle Badminton, Net ball etc. The final rounds of these events were conducted on 17.11.2016, which was also the day of the Job Fair. As soon as the inauguration was over, the recruiters were escorted to their allotted venues, where they had a teacher coordinator as well as a student coordinator to help them. The programme came to an end at 3.45 in the evening and the day closed with a felicitation of the recruiters by the Principal Dr. K J Antony. The recruiters expressed their satisfaction and promised to participate in future events organised by Sahrdaya and assured their long term association.

The Day 3 was the day of the Science fest where more than 200 students from various schools and colleges participated. The registration counters were set up outside the gate by the science department. The registration started at exactly 8.30 am and continued till 10 am. The formal inauguration of the event was at 9.30 am by our Exe. Director Fr.Titus Kattuparambil. The welcome address was delivered by the convener of the programme, Prof. Babu Antony and the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Jessy Tharian, faculty member of Dept of Chemistry. Also, the Science exhibition was inaugurated by Principal Dr. K J Antony by cutting the ribbon.

19.11.2016- Day 4- Tarotsavam- the Cultural Fest

The last day of the mega event was marked by the Cultural event- Tarotsavam 2016. It was a mega show in which celebrities from the film and television arena participated. The show became unique because of the presence of eminent artists like Ramesh Pisharody, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Subi Suresh, Najeem Arshad, Gayathri Suresh and Magician Raj Kalesh and his team. The show started at 5.15 pm with the Manager of IDET Msgr. Lazar Kuttikadan lighting the lamp along with renowned poet Engandiyoor Chandrasekharan which was followed by a message by Fr. Lazar Kuttikadan.

The trophy for the overall championship for Management Fest was distributed by Ramesh Pishrody to the students of Holy grace Academy, Mala and for Science fest by Najeem Arshad to the students of Sacred Heart School, Aloor. Also our students Mr. Soorya Narayanan and Mr. Shijin of 1st year B Com were also lauded for their efforts in video graphing the entire four days event and for producing a Promo video of the event.

The show also had dance performances by Ms. Aparna Vinod of 2nd year Psychology and Mr. Akhil Vargheese of 1st year M.Com. The show came to an end at 9.30 pm.

Nov 18 : Science Fest-Scientia Potentia 2K16

The Department of Physics and Chemistry conducted a still and working model competition for Higher Secondary students on 18th November 2016, Friday. Executive director, Rev. Fr. Titus Kattuparambil along with the Principal of the college Dr. K.J Antony inaugurated the event. Two teams participated in the working model competition. They were awarded the consolation prizes. An exhibition was also conducted by the students of Physics and Chemistry Department in which 50 experiments were set by the students. A science game area named ‘Science Kreeda’ was arranged for the students. The winners were awarded prizes during the valedictory function conducted at 3: 30 pm in the college seminar hall.

: Mathematics Exhibition Competition

As a part of science fest, department of Mathematics conducted inter Mathematics exhibition Competition on 18th November 2016 at 10.00am in the corridor along with Physics and Chemistry. There were 6 participants one from R.M.H.S.S Aloor and 5 from our college, each team consist of 2 students. The competition was evaluated by Dr. Rani M J, H.O.D. SCAS, Ms Athira C D, Assistant Professor, SCAS, Ms. Jasna Joy, Assistant Professor, SCAS. R.M.H.S.S Aloor won the first prize (RS.1500). Second and third Prizes were won by SCAS, Kodakara.

: Paper Presentation Competition

As a part of science fest, Department of Mathematics conducted a paper presentation competition on 18th November 2016 at 12.30 pm in the conference hall. Dr.Sr Deeni C J Assistant professor, Department of Mathematics, St.Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda and Dr.Rani M.J ,HOD Department of Mathematics, SCAS chaired the competition. Brochures were sent to all colleges in Thrissur, Ernakulam and Palakkad districts two months back. We received 9

papers from different colleges for the competition, out of which we selected 7 best entries. The participants were from St.Thomas College, Thrissur , St Mary’s College, Thrissur, Sahrdaya college of advanced studies Kodakara. The duration for each presentation was 20 minutes. The presented papers explored novel ideas from different areas of Mathematics. Vishnupriya of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies Kodakara won the first prize (RS.1000). Joseph Nelson P of St.Thomas College, Thrissur won the second prize (RS.750). Dona Rose Paul of Sahrdaya College of advanced studies Kodakara won the third prize (RS.500).

: Inter collegiate/Inter School Mathematics Quiz Competition

As a part of science fest, department of Mathematics conducted inter collegiate/Inter School Mathematics Quiz Competition on 18th November 2016 at 10.00am in the seminar hall. Mr Jinesh P Joseph, Associate Professor, SH college Thevara, was the quiz master. There were 11 teams from different colleges and 6 teams from various schools. Quiz competition consisted of two phases. After the first phase, 3 teams from each category were selected to the II phase. The selected colleges are St.Thomas College Thrissur, S.H. Thevara and St Josephs college Irinjalakuda.The selected schools are CKMNSS Senior Secondary Chalakudy, RMHSS Aloor and ST.Marys GHSS Kuzhikattusery. The second phase consist of 8 rounds. In college level SH College Thevara won the first prize (RS.2000). St Josephs college Irinjalakuda won the second prize (RS.1500).St Thomas college Thrissur won the third prize. In school level CKMNSS Senior Secondary Chalakudy won the first prize. RMHSS Aloor won the second prize and ST.Marys GHSS Kuzhikattusery won the third prize.

Dec 5-7: Rejouissance, 2016

To commemorate the 400th Death Anniversary of William Shakespeare, St. Joseph’s College Irinjalakuda organized Rejouissance, Shakespeare @ 400 in which there were four competitions named Sagesse Lit (Intercollegiate Literature Quiz), Zeitgeist2016 (Spectaculum: Shakespeare’s plays with dialogues), Play Pic (Telling the story through pictures with dialogues) and Brainsphere: A PPT competition on “Power & Gender in Shakespearean Plays”. Our college participated in all the four competitions and secured the first prize in three.

Sagesse Lit -Two teams of two students each participated and were not able to qualify themselves for the final round.

Zeitgeist 2016 - A team of eight students participated in the Spectaculum drama competition and won the first prize. They enacted Shakespeare’s Macbeth in ten minutes duration. The participants were Felix(IV sem Chem), Sicilin Joseph(II semChem), Arya K Ravi(II sem Psy), Muhammed Khalfa(II sem BCom CS), Nikon Madhu(II sem BCom, Aljo(IIsem BCom, Adith Raj(IIsem BBA) and Edwin Jose(II Bcom F).

Play Pic - Angelin Joy of IV sem BA English bagged the First prize.

Brainosphere- It was a PPT competition on “Power & Gender in Shakespearean Plays”. Two teams comprising of two students each participated and one team secured the first and only prize. The winning team members are Tessa Mary Varghese (II sem BA English) and Chakkiyath Jaisal Sabu( II Sem BSc CS).

A seminar on “Stock Markets- its functioning and Operations” was conducted for the final year B.Com and first and Second year M.Com students on 29.09.2016 at the Seminar Hall from 11 am to 1 pm. The session was handled by Ms. Vijay Kumar, a Stock Broker and Equity markets Trainer from the Bombay Stock exchange. He provided an insight on the various aspects of stock markets. He also gave a detailed description on the operations of the various stock exchanges, dematerialization of shares, the origin of Stock market operations in India. Dec 13 : Spell Anglia

Department of English Language and Literature conducted an interdepartmental Spell Anglia competition on 13-12-2016.The competition was conducted in two rounds. The screening round was attended by thirty two students. Thirty jumbled words were given to students to identify the correct spelling. Five students were selected to the final round and they were Thekkilakkaden Melvin Mathew (III B.Com Banking), Abhirami Anilkumar (II B.Sc Chemistry), Dona Das (II B.Sc Psychology), Krishnapriya Naina (III BA English) and Angelin Joy (II BA English).The final round comprised of three rounds. After the first round two contestants were eliminated and one more after the second. The final buzzer round was played Thekkilakkaden Melvin Mathew and Abhirami Anilkumar. Thekkilakkaden Melvin Mathew won the first prize and Abhirami Anilkumar the second. The Competition was hosted by Ms.Sheena Sarah Winny, Asst.Professor, Department of English.

Dec 23 : Christmas Celebration

The Christmas celebration was held on 23.12.2016 with great pomp and fervor in the campus. It began with a special Holy mass led by Prof. Dr. Msgr. Lasar Kuttikadan, the Manager of IDET. The festivities started at 11 am with the Carol singing competition held between the various departments. A total of 6 teams participated in the competition.The first prize for the Carol singing competition was bagged by the team from Psychology department, the second prize by the Dept of English. The Carol singing competition was followed by the Class wise cake cutting. Students brought cakes and invited all faculty members and distributed cakes as a part of celebration. The afternoon session began with the Santa competition. The Santas were welcomed by the Jingle bell song played by the College Band Troupe. Nearly 20 Santa’s from various departments participated in the contest. Mr. Jivin Job of 1st year B.Com finance A batch was selected as the Best Santa.A live crib was also arranged by the students of Psychology department which was highly appreciated by all. After the Santa competition, the prizes of various competitions were distributed. The college was announced as closed for a 10 day Christmas vacation to be reopened on 4th of January.

Jan 2-3 : Faculty Development Programme

A two day Faculty Development programme was conducted on the 2nd and 3rd of January 2017 for all the faculty members of the College. The two day programme was handled by Mr. Deepak Varma, a Corporate Trainer and Mindfulness practitioner. The first day’s programme started with a Silent prayer and a Welcome address by Dr. Karuna Nair. Faculty members participated in various interesting sessions on Time Management, Positive thinking and attitude, Mindfulness, and games to enhance creativity and team work like Tambola. Nearly 60 faculty members from various departments of the college participated in the two day programme. The Programme ended with a skit enacted by various teams of faculty members. Ms. Sheena Sarah Winny, the Staff Secretary of SCAS rendered the Vote of Thanks.

The PTA meeting of 2nd semester B.Sc. Physics was conducted on10th January 2017, Monday. The meeting, which was held in the afternoon (from 1.00 pm- 4.30 pm) was attended by the parents. Soon after the inauguration, the language lab was occupied by the I BA Literature students. The

lab has the capacity to accommodate thirty students at a time. Five thousand modules are already

installed in the software of the language lab. Our college follows is Orell P1 software. The

college plans to make available its facilities on every Friday. Ms. Bindya C B is assigned as the

faculty in charge of the Language Lab.

He also gave a very informative class on the various professional courses available to students in the field of commerce. Dr. KJ Antony addressed the gathering in a felicitation speech, the content of which was related to the three years of the students’ life at Sahrdaya. Ms. Dhanisha KS, Dept. Feb 4 : Prathiba Sangamam, Career Guidance Class & SET Examination

Prathibhasangamam was held on 4th February 2017. Hundred meritorious students from different Higher Secondary Schools across Thrissur District were honoured. The Sangamam was inaugurated by His Excellency Bishop Mar Pauly Kannookadan.

Sahrdaya SET was conducted on 4th February 2017 as a selection procedure to identify promising students who are to be considered for admission in the next academic year. A career guidance class was organised for the higher secondary students on the same day. Sri. Rahul Eashwar was the resource person.

Feb 7 : Industrial Visit

An industrial visit was arranged for first year BBA students to KAMCO LTD and MODERN BREADS, Edapally on Tuesday, 7th February 2017. Kerala Agro Machinery Corporation Ltd. (KAMCO) was established in the year 1973 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kerala Agro Industries Corporation Ltd. (KAIC), Trivandrum, for manufacture of agricultural machinery specifically Power Tillers and Diesel Engines. The visit was arranged to KAMCO Athani production plant. MODERN BREAD has a heritage of over 21 years and has presence across Bareilly, Nainital, Pilibit, etc. Modern was the first brand to operate in a fully mechanised bakery. welcomed by staff of KAMCO and the briefing was done by the security officer. After the briefing we were allowed to visit the operations of the company. Students were allowed to make a complete monitoring on all the production process happening in the company and left the company by 10.45am to Modern Breads Ltd. Modern Breads was located in Edapally, Cochin. After the security clearances, the company was open for visit by 12.00 pm in two divisions (20 each) of students for their convenience. All operations of the company were briefed by Mr. Nikil of operations department and the visit concluded by 1.00pm. The visit was highly informative and productive for the students and we reached back in the college by 3.30pm on the same day.

Sahrdaya College of Advanced studies conducted an industrial visit on 14 th&15th of February 2017 to flowers channel at Piravom, Ernakulam. The students of III BA English, II BA English, I BA English, II BA Malayalam, I BA Malayalam & II B.Sc Psychology were the participants and accompanied by Prof. Verghese Kalliyath, Dr Abraham Vallath, Mr Anoop M R, Ms Shiji V K, Ms Supriya Valsan, Ms Sandhya K S, Ms Bhindhya and Ms Aswani PK. It was a two days programme designed to get familiar with different areas of a television programme like pre –production, post- production including script, anchoring, camera and live recording. Feb 15 : PTA Meeting of IV Semester B.Sc. Mathematics

The PTA meeting of 4th semester B.Sc Mathematics was conducted on 15/02/2017 from 1.00pm to 4.00pm at M.Com second year class. The registration started at 1.00pm. A few parents met the class in charge from 1.00pm to 2.00pm. The common gathering began at 2.00pm with a prayer. Dr.Rani .M.J, Head of the Department, welcomed the gathering. Executive Director Rev.Fr. Titus Kattuparambil addressed the parents and gave the details about the students’ behavior observed inside the campus during the class hours. Principal Dr. K.J Antony briefed about the academic activities. Class Animator Ms.Jini Jose A briefed about the academic performance of the students as well as the non-academics. Ms.Jasna Joy proposed the vote of thanks. The session came to an end at 4.00pm. Parents of 20 students attended the meeting. After the official gathering, parents met class-in-charges.

The PTA meeting of IV semester B.Sc. Physics was conducted on16th February 2017, Thursday. The meeting, which was held in the morning session (from 9.00 am- 12 noon) was attended by the parents. Registration started at 9am and the parents had been given the time to meet the teachers till 12 noon. The official gathering began at 9:30 am with prayer and was followed by a welcome speech by Prof.K.A.Siraj (HOD of Physics). PTA meeting of 2nd year B.Sc. chemistry students was held on 16-2-2017 in the seminar hall at 2:00 pm. The meeting was presided over by Rev.Fr.Titus Kattuparambil (Exe.Director) in the presence of Prof.Babu Antony Menachery (HOD, Chemistry Dept.). The meeting began with prayer and followed by welcome speech by Prof.Babu Antony Menachery. Academic and Nonacademic evaluation was done by Ms. Greeni K I, class teacher. The entire Malayalam Dept. went on a study tour on Feb 18, 2017. The unforgettable journey commenced at 8.30 a.m from the college and arrived back at 7.30 p.m. The old and new Kalamandalam, Vallathol museum, Bharathapuzha, Irunilankode cave temple, Sakthan museum, Sahithya Academy, Lalithakala Academy, Sangeetha Nadaka Academy & houses of renowned writers Sara Joseph & V G Thampi were the places of visit. There was active participation of all staff and students in the journey, which was in search of the Malayalam heritage & Culture. The age old experience merged with the facts of the new age livened up the spirit of everyone who underwent the journey.

Feb 21 : Industrial Visit Report

An industrial visit was arranged for the second year BBA students to Anna Aluminium and Kitex Ltd. A corporate company operated by Anna Group of companies with a wide array of brands like Anna Aluminium, Chakson Pressure Cookers, King Richard Shirts, Scoobee day bags, Saras Curry powder, Kitex Lungi’s etc. The visit was arranged for students of second year BBA, 45 students participated in the visit with two faculties (Ms. Anu Jose, Ms. Ninu P.M). The team started from the college at 9.15 am and reached Anna Aluminium by 11.00 am. We were welcomed by the staff of Anna Aluminium Ms. Jincy and the briefing was done by the security officer. After the briefing we were allowed to visit the operations of the company. Students were allowed to make a complete monitoring on all the production process happening in the company and left the company by 11.45am to Kitex Ltd. Kitex Ltd was located near to Anna Aluminium and reached there by 12.00pm. After the security clearances the company was open for visit by 12.15pm and the textile division was the first to visit. All the operations of the company was monitored by each section from fabric manufacturing to textile manufacturing. After the visit the students had an option to purchase some clothes from the factory sales outlet. The visit wound up by 1.15 pm and a vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Anto (2yr BBA). A memento was also presented by the students as a token of gratitude to the staff of the company. The visit was highly informative and productive for the students and reached back to the college by 3.30pm on the same day.

Feb 22 : Seminar on “TEAM = Together Everyone Achieves More”

Computer Science and IT department of Sahrdaya College of Advanced studies, Kodakara, Thrissur conducted a seminar on “think on your feet” on 22-02-2017 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. On behalf of the Commerce department, the guest was welcomed by Ms. Dona Pious and the vote of thanks was rendered by Mr. Bright Sebastian who also did the compeering of the programme. The session was very informative and all the students responded very well to the programme. Mr. Jose M T was felicitated by Prof. Simon A K, Head of the Department of Commerce. The session ended with the recital of the college anthem.

Aljo Jenson of first year BBA was declared Best Actor in Hindi drama and Anoop Davis of second year BA Malayalam was the Best Actor in Sanskrit drama. : Meet a Great Mathematician

As a part of Mathematics association, IVth sem Mathematics students conducted “Meet a Great Mathematician” programme. The IV th sem Mathematics students were divided into 5 groups and each group should introduce a mathematician once in a month by mentioning his life history, achievements and contributions in mathematics.On Monday, 20th March, the first group comprising of Megha, Shalu, Manila and Supriya introduced the great mathematician Sreenivasa Ramanujan, the famous Indian mathematician. March 24 : D-Zone Victory RallyThe Victory Rally and Victory Day was held on 24.03.217 in order to celebrate the victory

of D- Zone Championship. There were two victory rallies from two locations. The rally began

from Kodakara Junction and Aloor Junction and covered a span of 1 km in and around

Kodakara. Students and teachers walked in the procession with the accompany of Nasik dol. The

Prize winners in the D- Zone competitions led the procession in an open jeep which also carried

the D Zone Trophy. The rally ended at College campus at 11.30 am after which sweets were

distributed to the neighboring houses of the 16th ward of Kodakara Panchayath. A performance

by the students was also there which was followed by the vote of thanks by the heads of various

committees.

April 1 : Award Day Celebration

The Award day celebrations were held on 01.04.2017 at the Central Auditorium. The day also marked the handing over of “Sahrdayam”- a house constructed by the college under the auspices of Sahrdaya Charitable trust as a nobel gesture on completing 5 years of establishing the college. The house was blessed by His Excellency Mar Pauly Kanookadan, the Bishop of Irinjalakkuda and the Chairman of IDET. After the report presentation, the function was formally inaugurated by His Excellancy Mar Pauly Kannokadan, the Honourable Bishop of Irinjalakkuda and the Chairman of IDET. The Inauguration was followed by an Inaugural address. The chief guest of the day was Dr. Babu Joseph, an eminent Scientist and former Vice Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology. After the inaugural address, Dr. Babu Joseph addressed the gathering. The Key note address was delivered after the Chief Guests message by Prof. C. C. Babu, Syndicate member of Calicut University. Prof. C.C. Babu congratulated the college in its meritorious performance in various fields of academic as well as non academic activities. He also said that within no time, Sahrdaya College of Advanced studies will become the No. 1 college in the entire Calicut University.

The Key note address was followed by Presidential address, which was delivered by Prof. Dr. Msgr. Lazar Kuttikadan, President- IDET and Manager- Sahrdaya Group of Institutions.. Dr. Lazar Kuttikadan, congratulated the Exe. Director Fr. Titus Kattuparambil in his efforts in making SCAS what it is today. Followed by the Presidential address was the honoring of Prof.

V.G.Tampi for receiving Kerala Sahitya Academy Award. Ms. Maya PP of the Department of Malayalam, conferred the Mangalapatram. His Excellency Mar Pauly Kanookadan honoured the award winner by draping him with a “Ponnada”. Prof. V. G. Thampi shared his experience on the occasion. After honouring the award winner, Exe. Director of SCAS, Fr. Titus Kattuparambil introduced the new courses to be launched during the next academic year of 2017-2018. The MoU’s of the new courses ACCA and CMA(US) were handed over to the Manager Prof.Dr.Msgr. Lazar Kuttikadan, the President of IDET and Manager of Sahrdaya group of institutions by the delegates of the partner institutions after which they gave an overview of the course to the audience. The Promo video of the D- Zone which was prepared by our students were launched on this occasion by Mr. P. R. Prasad, President of Kodakara Panchayath.

The next year’s Charity fund was handed over to the Manager by Dr. Abraham Vallath, head of the department of DOVE and the students council members. A sum of Rupees Twenty Five thousand was handed over by them towards the next charity initiative of the college. There were also felicitations by Mr. Fenil Vadakkan, Mr. Saravan Kumar, Ms. Shiny Babu, member of 16th ward, Ms. Usha Kumari- Fine Arts Advisor and Mr. Abel Joe Binny- the students fine arts secretary. The felicitations were followed by the prize distribution ceremony. The prizes secured by students in the various competitions in other colleges and in SCAS were distributed. Nearly 450 students collected their prizes in various categories. Prizes were also distributed to staff members on various accounts like on completing 5 years, for securing 100 percentage pass in university examination, for the best reader so on and so forth. The function ended with the vote of thanks rendered by Ms. Vismaya Valsan, the Chairperson of College students union.

Remedial classes are given to the weaker students according to their performance in the class as well as in exams. Through different sessions teachers give proper instructions which help them to improve their academic excellence.

Value Education

Values are recognized as the most effective remedy for long term well being of self and of others. Through Value Education we aim to our students by transmitting the ideologies of the socially acceptable values stated and acquired by knowledgeable people. The sessions alloted to value education, focus on topics that unfolds in students; knowing and understanding a lot about what is happening around you awareness classes are given on how to respect human values and enhance their personality. Value education exams were conducted subsequent to intensive classes and marks were sent to the University as per the norms.

The Department of Value Education headed by Dr. Abraham J Vallath oversees the Value Education Programme offered by Christian Chair, University of Calicut. Apart from this DOVE also organizes value education sessions from time to time. Ms. Rose Maria Babu of BA English secured second rank in university value education examination in 2015-’16. The initiatives of DOVE are AICUF, Jesus Youth, Tutorial System, Sahrdaya Social Service, Counseling and Monday Meal.

Placement Cell

At present, the Placement Cell constitutes the staff and student representatives to gear up activities meant to identify openings in the industry for those seeking jobs after the completion of their program. It also aims to provide them with industry relevant training so as to make them employable. Another functional objective of the Cell is to aid others with career guidance for higher educational pursuits.

Sahrdaya Charity Fund

The students of the college envision constructing one house every three years as part of their charity initiative and community extension activity. sahrdayam this year’s project as part of students’ charity activity has been handed over.

As per the reports of counseling centres & student affairs personnel world wide, there is an increase in the mental health requirements of college students, we intend to check the issues relating to our students such as stress, anxiety, confusion, uncertainty about the future, problems related to decision making, adjusting with college life and well qualified, experienced and practicing Counselors like Rev. Fr. George Pareman, Ms.Aasa Thomas, Ms.Nandini Mohanan & Sr.Karunya & Ms. Anju Lijo, have been entrusted the Counseling Division.

Student Counselling Service aims to help the students gain understanding and insight into any difficulties they may be experiencing, to develop emotional resilience and put into effect real change, enabling them to fulfill their potential. This Service is a very vital programme of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/ social development and career development ensuring today’s students become the productive well- adjusted adults of tomorrow.

Sapthasadassu

This novel initiative has been launched with Prof. VG Thampi as Convenor to identify and nourish the literary and artistic talents of the students. An extensive catalogue regarding the same was prepared with the cooperation of staff members and an action plan was prepared. The sapthasadassu are Chuvadu, Natyam, Thaalam, Swaram, Roopam, Niram and Aksharam. Each sadassu has a faculty member as convenor.

The Four Houses

All staff and students of the college have been randomly allocated to one of the Four Houses – Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond and Emerald – to promote healthy competition and team spirit. The motto is Four Houses One Family.

Secured Overall Championship in Calicut University D-Zone Youth Fest 2016-17The college was declared winners of the D-zone arts fest 2017 securing 186

points overall and first position in On Stage events with 182 points. Antony Varghese of second year BCom Finance was declared Kalaprathiba with 15 points. Felix Francis of second year BSc Chemistry and Aparna Vinod of second year BSc Psychology were declared Best Actor and Best Actress in English drama respectively. Aljo Jenson of first year BBA was Best Actor in Hindi drama and Anoop Davis of second year BA Malayalam was Best Actor in Sanskrit drama. Two hundred and fifty seven students of the college participated in the D-Zone arts fest and won one hundred and ninety eight prizes.
