REPORTED SPEECH – EXERCISES

A) Report what these people say and said. Change the sentences into reported speech!

Example:

Sean: “I’m going to work in Edinburgh.”

Sean says he is going to work in Edinburgh. Sean said he was going to work in Edinburgh.

1.Trish: “Do you like Mexican food, Lisa?”

2.Lynn: “Go and get help, Jane!”

3.Abdul: “I think the school team may win the match.”

4.Vicky: “I feel ill.”

5.Tim: “Can I copy your French homework, Selima?”

6.Teacher: “Don’t make so much noise, Peter!”

7.Jill: “I forgot to send the letters.”

8.Sarah: “When is Beth’s party?”

9.Sheila: “I’ll phone you from Glasgow, Val.”

10.Jan: “I haven’t saved enough money for a concert ticket.”

B) Choose “say” or “tell” and give a reason for your choice!
