I. New BPC Community Room Opened @ 200 Rector Place

o Battery Park City Community Room officially opened November 8 with ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception with Council Member Chin and BPC Seniors

o Facility, consisting of a 650-square foot community room, kitchen, and restrooms, also houses Battery Park City’s AlliedUniversal Security Command Center, and office space

o Replaces space BPCA formerly rented at The Regatta, which was vacated in 2016; joins 6 River Terrace in BPC’s north neighborhood as community space available to the public

o Priority usage will be granted to community and governance organizations, such as senior and youth activities, community board meetings, etc.

II. Resiliency Updates

o BPC Ball Fields Resiliency Project (Design & Engineering process underway) All-agency project “kickoff” meeting on Monday, October 29 Initial public meeting w/design team STV on Monday, November 19

o South BPC Resiliency Project (Design & Engineering process underway) All-agency project “kickoff” meeting on September 25 Initial public meeting w/design firm AECOM on Thursday, November 1

III. BPC Ball Fields: Geotechnical Work

o As part of the BPC Ball Fields Resiliency project, BPCA conducting geotechnical

work around the exterior of the fields, including drilling to assess subsurface

conditions.

o Work is occurring during normal construction hours, beginning at roughly

9:00am and concluding by or before 4:00pm through Friday, December 7.

o Noise expected to be minimal, and to not impact use of / access to the Ball

Fields, which are open 9:00am-8:00pm daily.

IV. BPC Ball Fields: Winter Hours o As of December 1, BPC Ball Fields are open 9:00am-8:00PM daily o BPC Ball Fields Availability (December 2018 – February 2019)

V. BPC Wayfinding Signage Program

o BPCA worked with CB1 BPC Committee to develop online survey for its Wayfinding Signage Program; responses – more than 180 – helping inform signage content and placement

o Design process through fall of 2018: Community update at July BPC Committee meeting Community update at December (tonight’s) BPC Committee meeting

o Installation scheduled for mid-2019, with periodic updates to BPC Committee

VI. PATH WTC Station Closure

o From January 5, 2019 through December 2020, PATH’s World Trade Center

Station will be closing each weekend, except for holiday weekends, to replace

equipment and rebuild tunnels severely damaged during Superstorm Sandy

o The station will close at 12:01am on Saturdays, starting January 5, 2019, and will

reopen the following Monday at 5am after each weekend of work

o BPCA working with CB1 and Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to

minimize community impacts resulting from closures

II. Family Workshop: Bookmaking – Saturday, November 17 @ 6 RT o Participants made their own journals/keepsake books using repurposed/recycled

materials; led by Esther Smith of Purgatory Pie Press and book artist/illustrator Elise Engler

III. Morning Meditation for Seniors – Mondays, 9:45-10:45am @ 6 RT

o Start your morning with a peaceful mind. Primordial Sound Meditation can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and strengthen the immune system

IV. Stories & Songs – Wednesdays, November 7-December 12 @ 6 RT

o Share the experience of live musical performance and creative storytelling with

your little one. Professional musicians illuminate and brighten up the spirit

through song, movement, and dance. Rhythm instruments provided. For ages 6

months to 3.5 years.

I. Chess Tournament – Saturday, December 8, 9:00am-1:00pm @ 6 River Terrace (for ages 5-12). This Swiss-style tournament provides each participant the opportunity to compete, learn, and develop their interest in chess. Awards will be given out at a 1:00pm ceremony. II. Holiday Lights – Thursday, December 6, 6:00pm @ South Cove. The annual Battery Park City tradition! Kick off the holiday season with a quaint evening of caroling, warm beverages and sweet treats with the BPC community. If you wish, donate to those in need by bringing a new, unwrapped gift for Stockings With Care. You may also drop off gift donations thru December 6 at 75 Battery Place.
