SUMMARY

Jan Resources Ltd. has dr i l led four addit ional holes on their

Black Panther property near Port Alberni, British Columbia. Hole 80-1

&as dr i l led in 1980 and was reported ear l ie r . Holes 81-1 to 81-3 were

dr i l led to intersect the mineralized structure. Hole 81-4 was dr i l led away

from the s t ructure to test for other possible lodes. The significant inter-.

cepts of the f i r s t five holes a r e summarized below.

Western Geophysical Aero Data Ltd. have completed a n airborne

EM-Mag survey over the Jan-Mar-Remy-Crow-Levi-Sue & Rand claim groups.

Several anomalies have been detected coincident with known mineral izat~on.

Glen E . White, P.Eng. has reported that a n "extremely favourable" EM-Mag

response outlines the location and s t r ike of High Grade Vein.

Sawyer Consultants Inc. have proposed two possible programs

for the a rea including 1000 feet of underground dr i f t ing and cross-cutting

with 3000 feet underground dr i l l ing on the Black Panther Vein, and a further

3000 feet of surface dr i l l ing in twelve holes on the known High Grade Zone

mineralization and coincident geophysical anomaly. The cost of the Black

Panther work i s estimated a t about $590,000. The High Grade work i s

expected to cost about $175,000.

PROPERTY LOCATION AND ACCESS

The property consists of 55 units controlled by Jan Resources Ltd. and 18 Crown Grants optioned by Jan Resources Ltd. from various owners. This ownership i s summarized in Table 1. By a Joint Venture Agreement dated March 21st, 1980 (amended June 19th, 1980) Oliver Resources Ltd. has obtained the right to earn up to 40% in the Mount McQuillan prop- ert ies of J an Resources Ltd. by spending $1,000,000. To the present they have earned a 12.5% interest by the expenditure of $250,000. The central portion of the claim group i s approximately 12; miles due southeast of Port Alberni, in the Mount McQuilAan a rea , and i s on 6lberni Inlet NTS map sheet 92 F/2, 1:50,000, a t 124 37'W longitude, and 49 07'N la t i tude (Figures 1 and 2 ) . Road access to the property i s provided by MacMillan Bloedel logging roads south on the China Creek Main through to the Museum Main and onto the Rift Creek Spur. Northern access i s provided from the China Creek Main into the northern end of the property, o r from the west up the Nitinat River Main. The majority of the access to d r i l l si tes and to the top of the Mount McQuillan properties was provided by helicopter service from Vancouver.

GEOLOGY REVIEW

J . E . Muller of the G.S.C. (1968, 1980) has described the regional geology of the area. The Sicker Group volcanics trend southeast from Port Alberni through the property. I t i s a mixed group that has been divided into

(1 ) Buttle Lake Formation - which contains limestone, chert and some diabase s i l ls ,

( 2 ) a sediment s i l l unit which i s thin bedded massive argi l l i tes , siltstone and chert with some diabase,

( 3 ) Myra Formation which is basic to rhyodacitic banded tuff breccia and l ava thinly bedded to massive argi l l i tes with strong chert ,

and (4 ) Nitinat Formation metabasaltic l avas , pillowed or agglomeratic, commonly with la rge conspicuous urali t ized pyroxene pheno- crysts and amygdules of quartz and dark green minerals, minor massive tuff.

There a r e very occasional Tertiary gran i t ic "Catface Intrusions" and Jurassic "Island Intrusions" in the area. Structural deformation makes a very complex picture in the a rea . The Jan-Mar-Remy claims l ie within a belt of predominantly Muller's Nitinat Formation (Figure 3 ) . Some Myra Formation i s also in existence a s i s in evidence in d r i l l core and surface work. A more detailed summary of the geology i s provided in ear l ie r Sawyer Consultants Inc. reports.

Black Panther

The gold-quartz vein deposits of the Black Panther Mine occur in four or more f rac ture systems and a r e general ly related to per ipheral zones of intrusive gran i t ic bodies. The quar tz diori te/gabbro bodies were emplaced and a r e probably comagmatic with l a t e Palaeozoic Sicker Group volcanics. This magma may have been the source of the quar tz vein deposits. The a rea around the A , B , and C Adits has been mapped a s the lower par t of the Sicker Group which i s composed chiefly of volcanic andesite although i n a number of observation points, especially around C Adit, small outcrops of diorite/granodiorite have been observed. The main A Adit i s thought to be a t the contact between the Sicker volcanics and related gabbroic intrusives. This contact i s recognized a s a highly metamorphosed zone of green andesit ic volcanics up to 5 metres wide and can be differentiated reasonably accurately by differences in colour and the degree of metamorphism. Underground workings show a graded contact between the old Sicker Group and the la te r intrusive.

The wall rock on either side of any of the veins i s strongly altered and carbonatized, and weathered a t surface. Samples collected from the wall rock show evidence of replacement and the matrix of the volcanics i s replaced by sulphides especially in proximity to the veins. The most abundant vein minerals a r e quar tz , carbonate , some c lay minerals, and pyrite, chalcopyrite, and galena with chalcopyrite becoming more abundant and galena becoming less abundant with depth. The high gold values a r e generally associated with galena and chalcopyrite i n carbonatized zones. The main ore zone i s comprised of both locally heavy sulphides in zones of brecciation, and more widespread disseminated sulphides. The veins generally s t r ike north-south and dip approximately 75' to the east .

The d r i l l hole composite plots, Figures 11, 12, and 1 3 , confirm tha t the Black Panther Vein systems crosscut a sheared Sicker Volcanic pile and intruding diorites. Due to intense a l terat ion and intrusion of the diorite/gabbro bodies the contacts and s t ra t ig raphic relationships a r e vague, however i t may be summzarized that

(1) the volcanic pile consists of bedded andesite, dacite and basa l t ic flows,

( 2 ) the younger intrusive i s dioritic to gabbroic and the dr i l l ing i s done in an a rea of the contact,

( 3 ) shearing i s sub-parallel to the intrusive volcanic contact and gives r ise to the hydrous "schists" in the altered volcanic horizons. Dip-slip shearing general ly s t r ikes north-northeast/ south-southwest, and dips steeply to the eas t ,

L ) veining appears to be la te r than the predominant tectonic events. Quartz carbonate sulphide emplacement i s stronger when coincident with schistose horizons and a s a result mineralized zones tend to pinch and swell,

Page 12: REPORT ON THE DIAMOND DRILLING PROGRAM BLACK …

(5) numerous shears/veins were cut by the diamond d r i l l holes but three zones persist. Their exact relation i s not known but i t appears tha t one vein ( the contact shea r? ) appears to be relatively consistent i n values with depth.

High Grade Vein

The High Grade Vein i s , aga in , expected to be related to the same intrusive bodies tha t occur a t surface in the Black Panther a rea . There i s , however, no surface evidence for these intrusive bodies in the High Grade Vein a rea . The two paral le l vein systems a r e only one kilometre apar t . The High Grade Vein has a similar north-south s t r ike but dips 65' to 80° westwards suggesting that i t may be on the opposite side of the intrusive bodies from the Black Panther but dipping towards a common source. The High Grade Vein i s in a similar belt of carbonatized volcanics ranging from 2 to 30 metres in width with an 8 to 26 centimetre core of quartz/carbonate vein. The high gold values a r e also associated with increased sulphides in the vein but wallrock values a re very high in a reas of disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite. The High Grade Vein therefore has grea te r potential for wider zones of mineralization.

1981 DIAMOND DRILLING PROGRAM BLACK PANTHER VEINS TO MARCH 1981

Drilling services were provided by Richmond Diamond Drilling Ltd. using their modified Longyear N Q wire l ine equipment. Helicopter service to the s i te was provided by Pacific Helicopters Ltd. The four-wheel drive roads provided access to within one mile of the set-up. Core logging and sampling was carr ied out by Sawyer Consultants Inc. By the end of March 1981, five d r i l l holes from one set-up above the Black Panther Adit A had been completed. These include BP 80-1, and BP 81-1 through BP 81-4; i n total 3,230 feet. BP 80-1 was dr i l led for 580 feet, the results of which a r e reported by Sawyer Consultants Inc. December 31st, 1980. The remaining holes were dril led from January to March 1981 and a r e summarized a s follows:

DDH No. Total Depth Samples Intersections

B P 81-1 801 feet 55 Cutting three zones including the contact shear and footwall shear .

BP 81-2 838 feet 54 Cutting three zones including contact shear and what i s believed to be a footwall shear .

BP 81-3 507 feet 34 Cutting two zones including the contact shear .

BP 81-4 504 feet 16 Cutting no zones of mineralization.

The orientation plots of these holes a r e given in Figure 4. The set-up i s approximately 370 feet east of A Adit, or 170 feet east of the projected lodes, and i s 120 feet above the ad i t level. The diamond dr i l l ing program produced good core recovery and provided the necessary results to project the s t r ikes and positions of the lodes.

RESULTS

I (1 ) Black Panther

The cross section provided in Figure 4 i s a compilation of the diamond dr i l l results from 1980 and 1981, previous dr i l l ing results from 1946, and some of the work in Adit A that was done i n 1946-7 and re-sampled in 1980. Two possible programs could be pursued. The f i rs t of these i s additional surface dr i l l ing from new access tha t would have to be made avai lable to the A Adit a t the 2927' elevation. The second involves cross cutting from the C Adit to undercut the values tha t were indicated in the dr i l l ing results (see Proposals following). Past production from the A Adit was predominantly in the a rea where the contact shear and the footwall shear joined together resulting in a thickening of the quartz bearing shears , ultimately resulting in increased grade over mineable thicknesses. A ra ise from the 2927' level to the 2994' level (1945) aided in the sampling but indicated that there were no mineable values in between the two levels. In 1946, a 60 foot winze was sunk to approximately the 2867 foot level and the bulk of production i s believed to come from below the ad i t level. The present condition of these workings i s such that no estimation of the mining done below the ad i t level can be made. Pre-production estimates made by Richmond in 1947 indicated average grades of 0.8 ounces over mineable widths, and along 100 feet of s t r ike length on the contact shear , and 1.21 ounces over mineable widths in the footwall shear over a s t r ike length of 120-200 feet. This i s the a rea tha t i s believed to have been mined down a t least 60 feet below the ad i t level. Production from this a rea was approximately 39 tons of concentrates which were made a t the m i l l s i te adjacent to the A Adit near R i f t Creek. These ran an average of 7.5 oz./ton gold, 14 oz./ton s i lver , 6% zinc, and 8% lead. Concentration rat io i s not known, and therefore the number of tons that were actual ly mined from this opening cannot be calculated.

The high backs in the footwall shear and contact shear dr i f ts a re evidence of past mining. What goes on below the level i s not known. 1980 A Adit sampling by Sawyer Consultants Inc. indicated in the a rea of the cross section i n Figure 4, 0.4 oz./ton gold in the contact shear , and 0.33 oz./ton gold in the footwall shear , over reasonable widths. I t i s believed therefore tha t the decreased values between Sawyer's and Rich- mond's results a r e a result of tha t mining. The projection of the veins down dip from the dr i l l holes BP 81-1, 81-2, 81-3, and 80-1 indicate persistence with depth. The values a r e consistently good in the contact shear - footwall shear system, but the main limiting factor i s the varying width of the lode (see Assay Summary Sheets, Appendix V). Exact correl- ation from one gold bearing zone to the other i s not known, but an approxi- mation of this i s given in Figure 4. I t might be suggested tha t the footwall shear i s a representation of a herringbone type of s t ructure with contact shear providing the backbone. Other shears tha t were cut by 1946 dr i l l ing and by 1980 and 1981 dr i l l ing may also represent off-shoots tha t join the contact shear la te ra l ly and eventually a t depth. These zones may be considered a s possible a reas for high grad: mineralization a s i s found in the A Adit level. Values above the 2638 elevation include 0.17 ounces in 80-1, 0.16 ounces in 46-3, 1.4 ounces in 81-1, and 0.2 ounces i n 81-3.

There i s also a 0.12 ounce value in what i s believed to be a n extension of the footwall shear which was intersected in 46-3. This provides approxi- mately 200 feet of backs from what i s projected a s being the bottom of the winze on the 2867' elevation. The probable ore reserves estimated from this limited information a r e summarized in calculations provided in Table 2. The minimum weighted average grade and tonnage above the 2638' level and between intersections in 81-3 and 81-1 indicate 13,800 tons a t 0.2 oz./ton of recoverable gold. Given 10% loss in mining this would indicate 12,500 tons and approximately 2500 ounces of recoverable gold. These esti- mates a r e based on minimal information and sampling points. The A Adit sampling by Sawyer Consultants Inc. has indicated values of 0.4 remaining i n the mined out a rea . This value has been projected to the bottom of the winze a rea a s being a rough cut-off for the old operations. The high grade value of 1.4 oz./ton ( D D H 81-1, 310'-312') has been cut to 1 oz./ton although values of this magnitude a r e not unreasonable to expect a s pre- mining assays over mineable widths and lengths well exceeded 1 ounce. In addition, the values encountered in d r i l l holes a r e well above 1 ounce. This i s a good indication of consistency tha t in gold deposits, in general , i s a n important consideration. Values below the 2638' level i n hole BP 81-2 also indicate continued values in the order of 0.14 ounces. The vertical mining a rea has been reduced to 230 feet to include tha t tonnage above the proposed 2638' level. The s t r ike length i s projected over 200 feet to include only tha t tonnage between known values. Samples 1 , 4, and 5 in Table 2 a re a l l in the same ver t ical plane. All samples have been weighted for vertical and horizontal a rea of influence, over t rue widths, and have been calculated over a minimum mining width of 3 feet.

The geophysical interpretation by Western Geophysical Aero Data Ltd. has indicated numerous EM-Mag anomalies associated with known mineralization. The anomaly closest to the Black Panther (Black Lion) a rea is closely associated with the nearby High Grade Vein and may possibly be a vein sub-system of the anomaly.

(2 ) High Grade Vein - Assessment

The High Grade Vein Zone contains the most persistent values in gold of a l l a reas sampled in 1980, and provides good consistency with depth given the intercepts in holes HG 80-1 and 80-2 (Sawyer Consultants Inc. , December 31st, 1980). In terms of gold potential , th is i s the best target for further work. Access to the a rea i s , however, quite difficult a s no road i s readily avai lable to the si te. Comparative tonnage and grade calculation for two zones labelled A and B i n the High Grade Vein have been provided for comparison with those values encountered in the Black Panther a rea . In the case of the High Grade Vein, surface sampling i s quite extensive, and provides a good handle on surface characterist ics. However, no dr i l l ing has been provided other than in holes 80-1 and 80-2. It has been assumed from results of this dr i l l ing tha t a vertical depth of 100 feet along the structure i s a reasonable estimate from which to calculate the tonnage. This results in approximately 3100 tons of ore grad- ing 0.26 oz./ton in Zone A , and in Zone B about 3500 tons of 0.12 oz./ton.

SAWYER CONSULTANTS INC.

This report may not be reproduced in whole or in part without the written permission of Sawyer COnSultants Inc

Page 17: REPORT ON THE DIAMOND DRILLING PROGRAM BLACK …

A third zone, "C", also exhibits good values a t surface over narrow widths. When these a r e expanded to mining widths values fa l l to sub ore grade. Zones A and El merely represent a r eas where surface sampling i s avai lable . Results of this tonnage and grade calculations a r e summarized in Tables 3 and 4 following. The a rea between the two zones has not been sampled in such a way a s to provide information for tonnage and grade calculation.

Further sampling (1981) i n the High Grade d r i l l holes 80-1 and 80-2 did not provide any more ore grade values in the wall rock.

Glen E. White, P.Eng. (Western Geophysical Aero Data Ltd., April 8, 1981) has interpreted an "extremely favourable" EM-Mag anomaly along the s t r ike length of the High Grade Vein. He recommended that this i s the highest priority target in the a rea .

1981 SUMMER PROGRAM ALTERNATIVES JAN-MAR-REMY CLAIMS

(1 ) Black Panther

Two possible programs have been referred to. One included surface diamond dr i l l ing from road access provided to the A Adit a r ea along which various d r i l l set-ups could be made. The cost of this access would be in the order of $200,000.00, and would provide similar information to that which was gained by the 1980-81 set-up above the A Adit. The main reason for getting this dr i l l ing information i s to provide l a t e ra l extension on what i s believed to be the contact shear zone, thereby increasing poten- t i a l tonnage prior to making a development decision. The cost of such a program i s estimated to be in the order of $400,000.00.

The second program, which involves moving s t ra ight to develop- ment from the C Adit and cross cutting 800 feet to undercut the values intersected in the 1980 and 1981 dr i l l ing , i s projected to cost in the order of $590,000.00, but i s believed to provide more substant ia l information on the target area. For this reason i t i s preferred to that proposal involving surface dr i l l ing. The entire program would en ta i l the rehabili tation of the C Adit, cross cutting 800 feet through the C Adit, dr i f t ing along the contact shear (200 fee t ) , and underground dr i l l ing . The main target would be those values encountered in what i s believed to be the contact shear (Figure 4 ) . Other targets a r e also projected in two other zones, one unnamed and one which i s projected a s being the footwall shear. These values a r e not a s consistent or a s high a s those encountered in the contact shear , but could be tested by this underground work. Diamond dr i l l ing from the underground stations w i l l provide detailed information on a produc- tion target a r ea of 230 feet by 200 feet by an average of 3 feet width. Bulk sampling and vein characterist ics would also be provided. Basic quotes on this work from M r . J i m Mawlwhinney of Custom Mining, Kamloops, were acquired in la te March 1981. For clean dr i f t i n a trackless mining 8 foot by 8 foot dr i f t , the cost would be $285.00 per foot including a l l support equipment and installation of power and a i r facil i t ies. Timber d r i f t would cost i n the order of $335.00 a foot. I t i s expected that this would be a minimum cost, and 10% of the total footage has been charged a t the timber drift rate. For track mining in a 6 foot by 8 foot d r i f t , $285.00 foot charge would be increased by $45.00 a foot to ins ta l l a l l r a i l and ties. The total cost of this program i s summarized in three phases (page 20).

(2 ) High Grade Vein

Given the results indicated to date in the High Grade Zone (summarized in Sawyer Consultants Inc. report of December 31st. 1980), and the geophysical anomaly outlined by Western Geophysical Aero Data Ltd., further work i s definitely required in this a rea . Due to high cost surface access, the property does not lend itself to exploration in the same

Page 21: REPORT ON THE DIAMOND DRILLING PROGRAM BLACK …

way tha t the Black Panther does. However, once that access has been provided, the relief in the a rea lends itself to underground development a t a number of levels. With the information to date from surface sampling and two dr i l l holes, the tonnages and grades indicated could be greater than that indicated in the Black Panther. I t i s therefore suggested tha t further dr i l l ing be ini t ia ted from set-ups located adjacent to the vein structure. In September 1980, Sawyer Consultants Inc. recommended a 570 metre program in five sections through the deposits over a total s t r ike length of 1200 feet. This has now been increased to s ix sections through the deposit by dr i l l ing twelve holesb The or iginal proposal also allowed for two holes per section, one a t -45 and one a t -95'. In order to improve the information a t depth, holes a r e proposed a t -65 and -80°, and depend- ing on the favourabili ty of the information obtained, an optional third hole a t -90' i s also proposed. For six sections and two holes per section, the total footage amounts to 3000 feet. This has been budgeted for in the summary following. If a l l six optional holes a r e dr i l led, an additional 2000 feet i s required. This cost i s summarized a s optional cost in the Cost Estimates. Additional information can be gained through trenching in a reas of cover. This w i l l provide good surface widths and grades in a reas that have not previously been exposed due to overburden. The crew assigned to performing the trenching work should also be capable of putting in a chain and compass gr id , and building the necessary set-ups in each of the locations to provide the six sections proposed. This will require some blasting and levelling.

CONCLUSIONS

Economic gold potential in the High Grade and Black Panther Vein systems i s good and further exploration in both a reas i s required.

Gold mineralization i s associated with north-south s t r iking quartz carbonate veins dipping to the eas t a t the Black Panther and , a s presently known, with one westerly dipping shear zone a t High Grade Vein.

The Black Panther dr i l l ing results indicate three separate shear veins the most promising of which has been called the "Contact Shear". The A Adit footwall shear i s believed to be closely associated with i t .

Results from Western Geophysical Aero Data Ltd. survey indicate an "extremely favourable" magnetics/EM anomaly coincident with the High Grade Vein. Proximity to the Black Panther Vein suggests that mineralization in both a reas i s possibly related.

The minimum possible tonnage in the Black Panther above the 2638' level ( C Adit) is estimated a t 12,500 tons of 0.2 oz./ton gold.

The minimum possible tonnage in the two surface sample zones in the High Grade Vein total 6,600 tons @ 0.17 oz./ton ( cu t ) gold, however consistency a t surface and a t depth ( D D H HG 80-1, 80-2) i s excellent and increased tonnage i s therefore expected given further work.

Further delineation dr i l l ing of the High Grade Zone i s warranted.

Underground work on the Black Panther will a id in the pre- production decision testing and fur ther delineation on the three dr i l l indicated zones.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Two programs a r e recommended for the Jan-Mar-Remy claims, one on the Black Panther Vein and the second a t the High Grade Vein. The programs can be car r ied out simultaneously or separately.

Due to the large expenditure required to complete the Black Panther work, the program i s recommended in three phases (including contingency) consisting of

a ) providing road access, building dump facil i t ies, and clean- ing out the C Adit in preparation for dr i f t ing, a t a cost of $110,000.00,

b ) cross cutting to the Black Panther Veins, drift ing on the main structure, and sampling a t a cost of $328,000.00,

C ) 3000 feet of underground diamond dr i l l ing to delineate the production targets a t a cost of $136,000.00.

Consulting charges and related expenses for a l l three phases i s estimated a t $12,000.00.

A preliminary program i s proposed on the High Grade Vein consisting of 3000 feet of surface dr i l l ing and surface sampling in a reas not yet tested a t a n estimated cost of $176,000.00. Optional deeper dr i l l ing dependent on the in i t ia l results i s pro- posed a t an estimated cost of $76,000.00. This program will give sufficient information for a n underground exploration- development program.

Numerous anomalies indicated in the airborne geophysical anomalies warrant further attention. However the Black Panther and High Grade Veins indicate the best potential and most advanced stages of exploration to date. The other anomalies a re contained within the present land package and can be followed up in due course.
