SUMMARY

The Spider Lake claim block, located approximately 25 km northwest of Terrace Bay, is underlain by a thick package of felsic metavolcanic rocks intercalated with lesser amounts of mafic flows and tuffs. These metavolcanic rocks form part of the Schreiber-Terrace Bay portion of the Wawa- Abitibi belt, the same sequence that hosts the Winston Lake Mine 55 km to the west.

From July 8 to 14, 1992 and from August 9 to 14, 1993, reconnaissance mapping and lithogeochemical sampling was carried out on the property. This work has outlined a regional zone of sodium depletion within a sequence of quartz porphyritic tuffs that can be traced east from Goldbar Lake for a minimum of 10 km.

Work on the property failed to identify significant mineralization within this alteration zone and further work is not recommended. Additional reconnaissance work is recommended to attempt to follow the sodium depleted felsic tuffs west of Santoy Lake and to hopefully locate a "center" of hydrothermal alteration and/or mineralization within this regional alteration package.

to.0 INTRODUCTION

From July 8 to 14, 1992 and from August 9 to 14, 1993, reconnaissance mapping and lithogeochemical sampling was carried out on the Spider Lake claim block located 25 km northeast of Terrace Bay. The purpose of the work was to map the geology, locate the source of and sample airborne EM anomalies, and to identify through lithogeochemistry, areas of hydrothermal alteration associated with base metal mineralization.

2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS

The property is located in north-central Turri Township, 25 kilometers northeast of Terrace Bay (Figure 1). There is no direct access to the claim block. The Trans-Canada highway passes approximately 12 kilometers to the south. Access to the property is via helicopter based out of Marathon.

3.0 CLAIMS

The property consists of four (4) contiguous unpatented mining claims (54 units) located in Turri Township (plan map g-635) in the Thunder Bay Mining Division (Figure 2). The claim numbers are listed below:

MINERAL CLAIM UNITS RECORDING DATE

1983: Teck completed 5 drill holes totalling 2495 ft. Drilling was concentrated in the central portion of 1195285.

1983: Noranda Exploration flew an airborne magnetometer and airborne survey over the Santoy Lake area, including the Spider Lake claim block.

5.0 REGIONAL GEOLOGY

The Spider Lake claims are situated at the eastern end of the Schreiber-Terrace Bay portion of the Wawa-Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The area is underlain by an east-west trending succession of volcanic (primarily intermediate to felsic tuffs) and sedimentary rocks. The property is situated near the inferred contact between the Winston Lake Group volcanics and the Big Duck Group sediments. It is along this contact that the Winston Lake Deposit (3.2 mt grading IS.6% Zn and 1 .1'fa Cu) occurs, approximately 55 km to the west.

6.0 PROPERTY GEOLOGY (Map 1)

From July 8 to 14,1992 and from August 9 to 14,1993, reconnaissance mapping on pace and compass lines was carried out on the property. The purpose of the work was to map the geology within the claim group, to ground check airborne EM anomalies and to identify areas of hydrothermal alteration indicative of base metal (VMS) mineralization.

A total of eighty-two (82) rock samples were collected, seventy-four (74) of which were submitted for wholerock analysis and eight (8) samples for multi element analysis. Analytical results are appended and sample locations are shown on Map 1 (attached to this report).

Approximately 75% of the property is underlain by felsic metavolcanic rocks, primarily quartz porphyritic ash tuffs with minor agglomerate. Massive cherty rhyolite has been identified locally. Intercalated within the felsic package are narrow (up to 500m thick) mafic metavolcanic sequences including amphibolite and re-worked tuff. These tuffs are gradational with a more sedimentary looking unit (laminated argillite) and because of the reconnaissance nature of the mapping, these two units were not delineated.

The only intrusive rock type recognized on the property is quartz-feldspar porphyry, fragments of which have been observed within the felsic agglomerate.

All airborne EM anomalies located in the field are situated at or near the contact of the mafic tuff/sediment unit and quartz porphyritic felsic tuff.

The volcanic units generally strike west to west-northwest (090" to 110") and dip vertical to steeply south (80s to 90"). ,

M7.0 TABLE OF LlTHOLOGlES

Listed below are descriptions of the units identified on the property. The numbers correspond to the legend on Map 1.

1 a - Amphibolite: Generally massive to weakly foliated, fine grained and dark green to black in colour. Amphibolite underlies the southern half of claims 1195286 and 1196119 forming a narrow intercalated sequence within a thick package of felsic tuff. This unit averages 500 meters in thickness north of Spider Lake, thins rapidly to the northwest and appears truncated by a major northeast trending fault to the east.

1 b - Mafic Tuff: The mafic tuffaceous rocks are fine grained, well foliated, dark green to black in colour and biotitic. Siliceous, lighter coloured and laminated phases possibly represent intercalated argillite metasediments. Because of the reconnaissance nature of the mapping, no attempt was made to distinguish these two rock types.

2a - Rhyolite; Local outcrops of massive, light grey, highly siliceous and aphyric rhyolite have been identified between two lakes located in the northeast portion of claim 1195286.

2b - Quartz Porphyritic Tuff: This unit is the most common rock type on the property, forming a thick sequence within which all other lithologies occur as thin intercalated bands. This rock is well foliated, siliceous and light grey to greyish yellow in colour (dependent upon the sericite content). Rounded quartz phenocrysts (up to 2 mm in diameter) form up to 6 *fc of the rock. Blue quartz eyes are not uncommon throughout the property.

2c - Felsic Agglomerate: Felsic agglomerate occurs locally within the more widespread felsic tuff sequence. Agglomerate has been identified south of the claim block on the shores of Spider Lake and along the north shore of a small lake located within the west half of claim 1195286. Typical agglomerate consists of felsic fragments (both aphyric and quartz -t- feldspar porphyritic) in a dark grey matrix. Fragments are generally sub rounded to subangular and ellipsoidal, ranging in size from 2 cm to > 20 cm along the long axis. Garnets are a common component of the matrix.

3 - Intrusive Rocks; Quartz-Feldspar Porphyry: Generally massive, siliceous and grey in colour with up to \ Q*fa feldspar and quartz phenocrysts. This intrusive rock occurs locally within the northwest portion of claim 1196119.

8.0 LITHOGEOCHEMISTRY

A total of seventy-three (73) representative rock samples were collected and submitted for wholerock analysis and 14 samples for multi-element and/or Au and Zn analysis.

The lithogeochemical survey was successful in delineating a wide zone of sodium depletion within the felsic quartz porphyritic tuffs. This sodium depletion is regional in extent and can be traced for a minimum of 10 kilometers, from Goldbar Lake in the east to Santoy Lake in the west. The zone is still open west of Santoy Lake.

Page 9: REPORT ON GEOLOGICAL AND LITHOGEOCHEMICAL SURVEYS

Analytical results also show that the felsic volcanic package between Santoy and Goldbar Lakes fall within the Fill classification for felsic metavolcanic rocks (Lesher et al, 1986). Fill felsic rocks have been associated with productive base metal (VMS) camps.

9.0 SOIL GEOCHEMISTRY

During the second phase of the reconnaissance mapping program (August 9 to 14, 1993), a small B-horizon soil survey was completed over an unexposed airborne EM anomaly located in the north- central portion of claim 1196119. A total of 46 samples were collected at 25m stations on three lines spaced 150m apart. The results of the survey are appended and a map is attached (Map 2).

For Cu and Zn analyses, a 0.5 gram, -80 mesh sample is attached with 1:1:1:1 nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and water on an aluminum block for 1 hour. The sample is cooled, diluted to 10 ml and stirred. Elements are determined directly from digest with conventional atomic absorption spectrometric procedure.

For gold analyses, a 10 gram sample is digested with 30 ml aqua regia. A 75 ml aliquot is extracted from the digest. Gold is then extracted with MIBK from the aqueous solution and read on an atomic absorption unit.

All samples returned only background Cu, Zn or Au values.

10.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Reconnaissance mapping and lithogeochemical sampling on the Spider Lake claim block has identified a widespread zone of sodium depletion within a package of felsic quartz porphyritic tuffs. This alteration is regional in extent and can be traced west from Goldbar Lake for 10 km to Santoy Lake.

Work within the Spider Lake claim block has failed to identify mineralization or "localized" hydrothermal centers within this regional zone of sodium depletion.

Based on the results of the work to date, additional work on the Spider Lake claims is not recommended. A regional program of reconnaissance mapping and lithogeochemical sampling should be carried out to continue to trace out the sodium depleted felsic rocks west of Santoy Lake and to hopefully locate a center of hydrothermal alteration and/or mineralization within this regional alteration package.
