Highlightsandchallengesofeachdimension:


MovementmedicinecommunitybuildingritualundertheruinswithElisabethSocialandWorldviewOurapproachforthefirsttwoweekswastocombinethesetwodimensionsinourEDE.Theyinspiredandsupportedeachotherverywell.WestartedonThursdayeveningwithbuildingofthreehomegroups.ThesethreehomegroupsmeteverythirdorforthdayduringthewholeEDE,tohaveaspaceforsharingandcommunitybuilding.Jashana,Sonja-VeraandElisabetheachledahomegroupwith18participants,Jashanaused“thespiritofeverything,whichraisedcouldtakeplaceandhaditsspace”,Elisabethdid“deepsharing”andSonja-Verapracticedthesharingintheformof“Forum”,asitispracticedinZEGGandTamera.ThehomegroupswereveryimportantforthewholeEDE.TheymadeitpossibleforJashana,ElisabethandSonja-Veratocontainabiggerknowledgeandconnectiontoeveryparticipant.Withthistoolwecouldunderstandandcareforeachindividualandeachgroupprocessinanadequateway.Thethreeteamleadersmeteverymorningat9o’clockforacommonstartup,ashortpersonalcheck-inandsharingtoclearissuesoftheday.Wejumpedinthemiddleofsocialthemes,asatthebeginningwehadtodealwithapsychicwomanwhowasn’tsignedinandwantedtoparticipate.Weneededthepolicetosearchforherasshesleptinthewoods.HermothercamefromGermanytocarryherhome.Twodayslater,wegotthemessageshehadtohospitalizeher.ThisillwomanwasdisturbinguswithongoingSMSandphonecalls.Thesecausedfirstdiscussionswithparticipantsandinsomeofthemdeepfeelingsofpersonalstoriescameup.


Onthefirstmorningwestartedthedaywith“Weareallinthistogether”.Onapractical level itmeant forus, that thewholeorganizationand the cleaning, cookinganddishwashingwasdonebyallofourparticipants.Sothe“handson”-projectitselfwas:leadingandrunningthe Schloss Glarisegg seminar centre for ourselves, our guests and the community members, whocouldsign-in,payandeatwithusinthedininghall.Thefirstafternoonweinvitedtheparticipantstodealwithallthesejobs.Weaskedforthreechefstostep into themiddle: one chef for the cooking, one for dishwashing and one for the cleaning.Weexplainedallthejobsandafterthisafternoontheparticipantstookovertheresponsibilityofrunningtheseminarcentrewiththehelpofsouschefsandallotherparticipantsrotatingwiththejobs.Mostlywewere65peopleandmore.Onthelongrunofthe4weeksitwastakeninanimpressivecarefulwayandnearlyalwaysingoodmood.

CookingpartyeverydaywithHolgerourcook

WithourcookHolger(inthemiddlewiththecap)wehitthejackpot.HeasaYogateacherandcooktaughtourparticipantshowtocookvegan,tastyandonaverylowprice.Beforethebeginningofallmeals Holger initiated always cooks and participants in circles for singing and silence where hehonouredMotherEarth,thefoodandthecookswithgratefulness.One side effect of these ecological and economical themes was, that our food was cooked andarranged in such a carefulway, thatwe had nearly no foodwaste.One of our participantswas anexpertwho studied how to reduce foodwaste. He told us, that even at a food-waste-event of theSwissUniversitytherewasmorefoodwastemadethenduringourEDE.


Themorningcirclesometimesoutdoors,

Webeganourdaywithadailyritualat10o’clock:“themorningcircle”.Wesangasongtogether,wentintostillnessandthensomebodyreadaninspirationaltextforthedayoutofaspiritualbookorcard.Twiceaweekcommunitymembersjoinedus.Itwasalsothespaceforlogisticalannouncementsandnotifying the program of the day. Copying this ritual from the community, we didn’t know, how itwould develop in such a large group.Our conclusion for next yearwill be to take the logistics andannouncementsofthedayoutofthemorningcircleritualandputitatthebeginningofthemorningprogramme.Sincewe introduced a lot of theory andmethods of social communication and community buildingtools,theparticipantsimplementedandusedthemfortheirprojectgroupprocesses.

Weusedthewholefirstday introducingthegroundsandthedifferentplacesofGlarisegg.Thenthedifferentprojectgroupspresentedthemselvesandparticipantscouldchoose.Thiseveningeveryonelandedinonegroup.Twowomengotfacilitatorsforallthegroups.TheybroughttheirknowledgeofDragonDreaming,permacultureandbusinesscoachesintothesefieldsandalsofacilitatedtheprojectgrouppresentingtime.

Installingtheprojectgroupswasforsomeaharddecision.Itwasnecessarytoacceptthatthepersonalprojectdidn’tfindresonance.AndreiLuroaiagaveusatheoreticalintroductionofsociocracyviaSkype.SociocraticvotingbroughttheEDEcommunitytwocouncils.Thefirstwascalled“Pavillon”.Itstaskwastogivefeedbackthatcamefromparticipantstotheinitiators(Elisabeth,Jashana,Sonja-Vera),leadingtwoplenums(makingdecisionsontheschedule)andcontinuingwithusthedevelopmentoftheschedule.OneofthePavillonmembersdealtwiththecashflowofthecourse.Thesecondvotingwasfortheir“CommunityCaringCouncil”(CCC),whoarrangedallaroundcommunication,mediationandthewholesocialfieldofthecourse.ThreewomenandfourmenformedtheCCC.

JashanaleduswithJoannaMacy’sworkto“Reconnection”andlaterinthemonthElisabethusedtimewithJ.Macy’s“TruthMandala”formoreunderstandingofdeeppersonalfeelings.DeepDemocracywasintroducedbyJashana,ScottPeckbySonja-VeraandMovementMedicinewiththe“TreeofLife”,“PrimaryRespiration”anddifferentritualsbyElisabeth,withthegoaltofindthedeeperconnectionwiththemselves,othersandthecommunitylife.

Wealsowentquitedeepintothethemeof“post-colonialism”andtheissueofstatus.ForsomeparticipantsitwasverydifficulttobarethefactoftheirprivilegelivinghereinWesternEurope.

Nearlyeveryonewentthroughprofoundinnerthemes.Ittookefforttoallowlookingatthingsandgothroughit.Weasateamhadtoholdthespaceandbeavailableforthenecessaryencouragement.Whatawonderfulanddefyingjob.Agreatexperienceinourteamwastosupporteachotherandthe


abilitytobolstertheyounggroupmembers.Attheendthefeedbackofmanyparticipantswas:“Thiscoursechangedmylive!”Andanexttimewewouldinvolvemorepeopletoholdthespacewithus.Theparticipantsinitiatedandcreateddifferenteventslikeamensandwomen’scircleandaritualwherebothgendersmet,aswellasdancingwithlivemusic,anopen-miceveningandalotofcuddlingandsharingintothelatenight.Somuchknowledgecamehertogetherwhichwasclearlytotasteintheopenspacehours,whereeverybodycouldoffersomething.StephenBusby,withDanielaufderMauerundHeikeWegeneroffered“collectinghealing.Thiswasforallaslowingdownandimpressivefeelingintotheown,theothersandthewholeworld’sbehaviour.EcologicalThepermacultureprincipleswereintroducedandvisibleonatourthroughourpermaculturegardenandourforest.ThisForesthasbeenlefttonaturesincethelastfiftyyears.Glarisegg’sbuildingsgaveanexampleonhowtorenovatestructuresinasustainableecologicalway(withnaturalbasedproductssuchasclay).Theparticipants’inputstoecological,politicalandeconomicthemeswereaddingimportantinsightstothefield.Acommunitymember,workingasasustainabilityandfairtradeexpertinthecocoaproductioninaleadingSwisschocolatecompany,presentedpossibilitiestosupportthirdworldcountriestobecomemoresustainableinproducingcacaobyshiftingfrommonocultureintopermaculture.

Paulshowed“treecares” Handson:Participantsbuildingan“Hügelbeet”EconomicToconnectdeeplywiththisfieldwestartedwiththemoneyissuetheoretically,withfilmsandgames.ThesecondpartwasaSkype–connectionwith“MumtaIto”aboutthedevelopmenttoanewapproachofthelaw–“therightsofnature”.FollowedbyadaywithChristianFelberandthe“Economyofcommongood”.SomeContactImprovisationandmusicsessionsinbetweenthelongandintensetheoreticalsessionshelpedforrelaxation.Wehadaveryspecialexperienceduringasilentdinnerweinformedthecooksandserversjustbeforethemealabout.Wedemonstratedtheworldtruthwiththeserviceofthismeal.One%ofallhumans’buildstheupperclass,10%ismiddleclassandtherestoftheworldhastosharewhatisleft.Tofeelinthebodyhowtheworldfunctions,leftconsternationandhelpedthemtorealizehowprivilegedtheyare.Asaresult,weneededlessfood(atleastforadayortwo).WecoulddescribeourfocusoftheEDEhereas“thepossibilitytoconnecttothefieldofDeepEcologyandDemocracyinacommunitybuildingway”.AsanextstepthesefieldstaketoinnerworkandconnectioninamoreprofoundandclearerwaytotheownheartandtheGENmovement.Theparticipantssoakedinalotoftheprogrammeandfilledintheirknowledgeinpowerpointpresentations,songs,wakingupgamesandsharings.Thiswasawonderfuladdition.

Itwasapleasuretoseeeachprojectpresentation.Thegroupscongratulationswasaloveshowerofallthedonework.AbignetworkandmeetingpointsalloverEuropeandinJuneanEDE-festivalnearSt.Gallen(CH),istheresultofthismonthwork.27.ofMaiLulufromSwedenwrote: And off we go! :):):) 5 month of work we´ve put into this project. A lot of talking, realizing, laughing, skyping, writing, anger, love and in the end a lot of growth turned out of it - so far!
