Tonight’s Game: The Reno Aces and Salt Lake Bees play the finale of a four-game series tonight at Aces Ballpark. The Aces took a 2-1 series lead with a big 13-8 win last night. Tonight, right-hander Jhoulys Chacin starts for the Aces against right-hander Nick Tropeano for the Bees.

Thursday’s Game: The Aces trailed 2-0, led 7-3, trailed 8-7 and eventually won last night, 13-8, behind 14 hits of-fensively. Salt Lake took a 2-0 lead just two batters into the game when Grant Green hit a two-run blast to right off of Caleb Clay. The Aces scratched a run across in the bottom half on Peter O’Brien’s two-out RBI single, but the Bees erased that run on a solo shot from Kaleb Cowart in the third to go up 3-1. Reno rallied in the home half, scoring six runs after sending ten batters to the plate against Bees starter Drew Rucinski. Nick Evans made it 3-2 with a run-scoring single and after Cody Ransom tied the game with a sacrifice fly, Blake Lalli, Jordan Pacheco and Nick Buss all laced two-out RBI hits to put Reno on top, 7-3. Salt Lake came right back in the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits and an error, before taking a brief 8-7 lead in the fifth on a solo homer by Rafael Lopez. In the sixth, Reno again put up a crooked number, scoring five runs on three hits, two walks and an error. O’Brien hit a go-ahead, two-out, two-run double and the next batter, Mike Freeman, roped a two-run triple to left. The Aces’ bullpen shut down the Bees the rest of the way, allowing just three base runners over the final three innings. R.J. Hively got the win in just his second Triple-A appearance while his former Visalia Rawhide teammate, Kevin Vance, worked a scoreless ninth in his Aces’ debut.

Nick Tropeano: 24-year-old Nick Tropeano starts for the Bees in the finale of the series. The right-hander is 3-5 with a 4.95 ERA in 14 starts for Salt Lake in 2015. He has also started games for the AZL Angels and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this year. He started against the Aces on May 10 in Salt Lake and allowed two runs over seven innings in a 9-2 Salt Lake win. He also beat the Aces on July 16 in Salt Lake behind another seven-inning, two-run performance. The Aces got their two runs on solo homers from Todd Glaesmann and Danny Dorn in Salt Lake’s 9-3 win. On April 23, Tropeano started for the Angels against Oakland and blanked the A’s over six innings in a 2-0 win. He also started against the Royals on June 26, throwing three shutout innings. The Houston Astros drafted Tropeano in the fifth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Stony Brook University where he was a second-team All-American. He was acquired by the Angels in a November 5, 2014 trade that sent Hank Conger to Houston.

Can’t Stop Pete: Peter O’Brien recorded another multi-hit game last night, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBI after going 4-for-5 while falling a homer shy of the cycle Wednesday night. He’s racked up multi-hit performances in four of his last five games and five of his last eight overall. He is batting .667 (8-for-12) with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 doubles and 1 triple in the first three games of the series against Salt Lake.

A Streaker at Aces Ballpark: Aces infielder Brandon Drury has a 17-game hitting streak at Aces Ballpark. In the 17-game stretch, he’s hitting .397 (28-for-73) with 15 runs scored, 9 RBI, 10 doubles, 1 home run and 4 walks.

Evans In the Zone: Nick Evans has now hit safely in each of his last 15 games, a stretch in which he’s posted a .393 (24-for-61) average. His 15-game streak matches former Ace Garrett Weber’s team-high 15-gamer set earlier this season from April 27-May 13. Evans is just four games shy of matching his career-high hitting streak of 19 games set with Triple-A Buffalo in 2011.

Plenty of Power: The Aces have hit 117 home runs as a team this season, second-most in the Pacific Coast League behind Round Rock’s 121. Lancaster (151) and High Desert (133) of the California League are the only other two teams with more homers in all of Minor League Baseball, while Arizona’s Advanced-A affiliate, Visalia, has hit 117 as well.

Not so Fast, My Friend: Through 118 games, the Aces have a league-low 34 stolen bases and are on pace for just 42 for the season. Last year, the Aces finished dead last in the PCL with 71 stolen bases. The two lowest stolen base team totals since Reno joined the league in 2009 are Las Vegas (50, 2009) and Sacramento (58, 2013).

Heat Check: The Aces have found their comfort zone when first-pitch temperatures are between 76-95, posting a 31-28 record. When temps are between 51-65, the Aces are also above .500 at 13-9. The Aces have struggled in temps between 66-75 (13-18) and 96+ (0-6).

Hessler Gets the Call, Debuts: Aces left-handed reliever Keith Hes-sler had his contract purchased by the Diamondbacks Friday night

following Arizona’s 2-0 shutout of Cincinnati. The southpaw was 0-1 with a 5.27 ERA (8 ER in 13 2/3 IP) for Reno, but his overall numbers between Advanced-A Visalia, Double-A Mobile and Reno were tremendous. Collectively, the 26-year-old went 4-2 with a 1.68 ERA (10 ER in 53 2/3 IP) across the three levels, racking up 62 strikeouts against 11 walks along the way. Opponents batted just .197 against Hessler. He worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning in Arizona’s 4-1 loss to the Reds last Saturday night, striking out both Todd Frazier and Jay Bruce.

Romak Rewarded: Jamie Romak’s contract was purchased by the Diamondbacks Monday following the D-backs’ trade of Cliff Pennington. At the time of his promotion, Romak ranked at or near the top of the several offensive categories in the Pacific Coast League, including: RBI (87, 1st), extra-base hits (58, 1st), runs (71, 2nd), home runs (22, 2nd), total bases (219, 2nd), doubles (33, 2nd), walks (54, 2nd), slugging percentage (.554, 4th), OPS (.928, 5th) and hits (114, T-10th). He earned his first All-Star nomination earlier this year after being named to the PCL squad. He made his D-backs’ debut in Arizona’s loss Saturday night, striking out in a pinch-hit appearance. He started in left field Wednesday for Arizona, going 2-for-5 with a run scored in their 7-6 loss to the Phillies.

Owning on Offense: The Aces rank at or near the top of many major offensive categories in the Pacific Coast League. The list includes: total bases (1,837, 1st), slugging percentage (.453, 1st), home runs (117, 2nd), batting average (.286, 2nd), OPS (.798, 2nd), doubles (268, 3rd) and hits (1,158, 3rd).

Tonight’s starter: 27-year-old Jhoulys Chacin gets the ball for the Aces in game four against Salt Lake. The right-hander was signed by the Diamondbacks on June 20, 2015, after he began the season at Triple-A Columbus (Cleveland Indians) where he went 1-3 with a 3.21 ERA in seven starts. He originally signed with the Colorado Rockies on September 27, 2004, and he worked his way up the ladder until debuting with them in 2009. He pitched in the big leagues for the Rockies from 2009-14, with a number of Minor League stints along the way. He is 38-48 with a 3.78 ERA in 124 games (109 starts) in the Majors.

Major-League Debut: Chacin made his Major League debut in a relief appearance at Coors Field against San Francisco on July 25, 2009. He blanked the Giants over one inning, walking one and striking out two.

Last Outing: Chacin started on August 8 at Tacoma, and the right-hander threw a career-high 128 pitches (70 strikes) over 7 2/3 in-nings in a Reno 6-3 win. He gave up three earned runs on five hits in the first inning before settling in. He scattered six walks while fanning five.

Against the Bees: Chacin has faced the Bees twice in his career. The first was a start on August 29, 2009 while he was with Colo-rado Springs, and he took the loss after yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits over three innings. He walked three and struck out two.

He also faced Salt Lake on July 18 this year at Smith’s Ballpark, tak-ing the loss in a Salt Lake 6-4 victory. He yielded four earned runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts.
