    Fluff in the garments

During the WASHING AND/OR DRYINGPHASE, certain types of fabric, as sponge-cloth, sweatshirt, could release fluff.

    ENGLISH 16

    17/36

The released fluff could stick to the fabricsduring the next cycle. This drawback increases with technical fab-

rics.To prevent the lint in your clothes, it is rec-ommended: To do not wash dark fabrics after you

washed and dried light coloured fabrics(new sponge, sweatshirt especially) andvice versa.

To air-dry this type of fabrics when theyare washed the first time.

    To clean the filter.

Perform one or more rinse cycles to washthe drum between the washing and dry-ing of fabrics with different colours.

After the drying phase, thoroughly cleanthe empty drum, the gasket and the doorwith a wet rag.

    Helpful hints and tips

    Sorting out the laundry

Follow the wash code symbols on each gar-ment label and the manufacturers washinginstructions. Sort the laundry as follows:whites, coloureds, synthetics, delicates, woollens.

    Removing stains

Stubborn stains may not be removed by justwater and detergent. It is therefore advisa-ble to treat them prior to washing.

Blood: treat fresh stains with cold water. Fordried stains, soak overnight in water with astain remover product then rub in the soapand water.Oil based paint: moisten with benzine stainremover, lay the garment on a soft clothand dab the stain; treat several times.Dried grease stains: moisten with turpen-tine, lay the garment on a soft surface anddab the stain with the fingertips and a cot-ton cloth.

Rust: oxalic acid dissolved in hot water or arust removing product used cold. Be carefulwith rust stains which are not recent sincethe cellulose structure will already havebeen damaged and the fabric tends tohole.Mould stains: treat with bleach, rinse well(white cottons and fast coloureds only).

Grass: soap lightly and treat with bleach(white cottons and fast coloureds only).Ball point pen and glue: moisten with ace-

tone1), lay the garment on a soft cloth anddab the stain.Lipstick: moisten with acetone as above, then treat stains with methylated spirits.Treat any residual marks with bleach.Red wine: soak in water and detergent, rinse and treat with acetic or citric acid, then rinse. Treat any residual marks with

bleach.Ink: depending on the type of ink, moisten

the fabric first with acetone1), then with ace-tic acid; treat any residual marks on whitefabrics with bleach and then rinse thor-oughly.Tar stains: first treat with stain remover, me-thylated spirits or benzine, then rub withdetergent paste.

    Degrees of water hardness

Water hardness is classified in so-calleddegrees of hardness. Information onhardness of the water in your area can beobtained from the relevant water supplycompany, or from your local authority.

A water softener must be added when water has a medium-high degree of hardness.Follow the manufacturers instructions. The quantity of detergent can then always be

adjusted (reduced) to degree of hardness soft.

    Drying HintsPreparing the drying cycle

As a dryer, the appliance works on the con-densation principle. Therefore, the water tap must be openand the drain hose must drain water intoa sink or into the drain pipe, even duringthe drying cycle.Attention! Before starting the drying programme, re-

duce the loads of washed laundry, in orderto obtain good performances.

    Laundry not suitable for drying

Particularly delicate items such as syn-thetic curtains, woollen and silk, garmentswith metal inserts, nylon stockings, bulkygarments such as anoraks, bed covers, quilts, sleeping bags and duvets must notbe machine dried.

Avoid drying dark clothes with light col-oured fluffy items such as towels as these

can attract the fluff. Remove the laundry when the appliancehas finished drying.

To avoid a static charge when drying iscompleted, use either a fabric softenerwhen you are washing the laundry or afabric conditioner specifically for tumbledryers.

Garments padded with foam-rubber ormaterials similar to foam-rubber must notbe machine dried; they represent a fire

hazard. Also, fabrics containing residue of setting

lotions or hair sprays, nail solvents or sim-ilar solutions must not be machine driedin order to avoid the formation of harmfulvapours.

The detergent and any additives must beplaced in the appropriate compartments ofthe dispenser drawer before starting thewash programme.

If using liquid detergents, a programmewithout prewash must be selected.Your appliance incorporates a re-circula-tion system which allows an optimal use ofthe concentrated detergent.

Follow the product manufacturers recom-mendations on quantities to use and do notexceed the MAX mark in the detergent

    dispenser drawer.

    Garment labels

For drying, follow the indications given onthe manufacturers labels: = May be tumble dried = Drying at high temperature = Drying at reduced temperature = Do not tumble dry.

    Drying cycle duration

The drying time may vary depending on: speed of the final spin dryness degree required (iron dry, store

dry) type of laundry weight of the load size .

The average drying time for a timed dryingare indicated in the Drying programmeschapter. The experience will help you to dry

your laundry in a more suitable way, ac-cording to the different fabrics. Take note ofthe duration drying time of the already per-formed cycles.

    Additional drying

If the laundry is still damp at the end of thedrying programme, select a short drying cy-cle again.

Warning!Do not over dry the laundry

in order to avoid creasing of fabricsor garments shrinking.
