Ovalgrip Cable Markers
Features and Benefits
Ovalgrip markers have been specifically designed to mark cable and wire both before and after termination.Their oval shape means that these markers are easy to fit by hand directly onto the cable pre-termination or they can be attached as an identification flag post-termination using special marker Arrowtags. Arrowtags fitted with Ovalgrip are fastened using cable ties and can very easily be modified or removed without the need to uninstall the cable.
Sizes 50 and 85 can be used with Arrowtags for identifying larger cable bundles.
Application
Ideally suited to panel building, mass transit, utilities, telecommunications and electrical contracting.

Labelling
Perception can confuse reality.
We’re working to clarify future labelling code statements to minimize confusion.
Take the perception of using engraved phenolic plates versus labels…
The Guideline
Solar installation labels, when properly designed, warnoperatorsandotherexposedpersonstotherisksassociatedwithequipmentoperation.
Proper code compliant labelling matters to industryleaders involved in the design, manufacture and maintenance of Photovoltaic installations, whobelieve equipment safety is essential for successfulindustry growth. This may also affect those providing maintenance and repair, including third party organizations charged with ongoing service.
The Reality
Manylocalmunicipalitiesstillrequiretheuseofengravedplates, but the market is changing to better protect first responders and emergency personnel. Adhesive vinyl labelsthatareredwithwhitetext,reflective,andmeetUL969standardsaredesignedtobemorevisible,moredurable, and work on more applications.
The Perception
Many local inspectors believe that only engravedphenolic plates are acceptable, but most local districts do not specify the use of engraved markers. Installers are nowabletouse(codeacceptable)adhesivelabeloptionsthat are in accordance with the dimensional, functional, andverbiagerequirementsneededtoensureasafeandinformative installation. As always, the installer must always check local codes before deciding the best and most cost effective way to label the installation.
The Situation
The primary concern with engraved or etched signage, phenolic plates, is the lack of flexibility, high cost, and lead times which can delay inspections. Typical phenolics, froma trophy shop, arenotmadewithUVstable materials. Printing labels on site, as needed, orpurchasing pre-printed inventory saves time and reduceslabourcostswithoutsacrificingUVstabilityandoutdoordurability.
The Option
HellermannTyton’s solar installation labels are UVdurable and feature an ultra-bond adhesive for both powder coat and baked enamel surfaces. Pre-printed with the most common legends to meet the requirements of the local Authorities, the labels aremanufactured using ultraviolet resistant ink, permanent acrylic adhesive, and a base material to withstand environmental elements.
The Benefit
HellermannTyton offers a line of the most commonlyused regulatory solar identification labels on large utilityandscaledPVinstallations.•Significantcost×avings•TestedtoUL969standard•Made with UV stable inks & materials for durability
and weather resistance•Adhere to baked enamel & powder coat painted
surfaces•Suppliedwithanaggressiveadhesivetoensure long

Bundling and Securing
?Solar Ties can be used to secure one or multiple PV cables throughout an installation.
Stainless Steel Solar Ties provide maximum tensile strength while also being the most resistant to temperature, humidity, corrosion and chemicals.
HellermannTyton offers a wide selection of high quality cable ties manufactured in materials suited for solar applications. Renewable Energy Ties are offered in a variety of environmentally matched materials based on your region and climate conditions.
Some things to consider when choosing a Renewable Energy Tie:
• Substrate material
• Humidity level
• Temperature
• Exposure to salt spray
Water Content in Polyamide (PA6.6,
PA11, PA12)
Polyamide is a hygroscopic material, which means that it absorbs and releases water. The mechanical properties of polyamide are significantly affected by its water content – especially flexibility and minimum tensile strength. Polyamide is most stable at optimum atmospheric conditions of 73° F (23° C) and 50% relative humidity. Under these conditions, the degree of water saturation of PA6.6 is around 2.5%. For PA11 and PA12, the water saturation rate under these conditions is 1.0% and 0.7%, respectively.

Heat Shrinkable Tubing
SGP Grade Flame-retardant Polyolefin General Purpose Heat Shrink Tubing
Features and Benefits
SGP general purpose heatshrink tubing is a cost effective product for numerous commercial insulation applications. It provides effective electrical insulation and protection for in-line components, disconnect terminals and splices. It also bundles wires and cables for very flexible light-duty harnesses, use as strain-relieves for electrical wire connections and colour-codes wires, cables, terminals and components.
SGP grade is a range of cost-effectively made flame retarded, chemically cross linked polyolefin heatshrink tubing with a 2:1 shrink ratio and a temperature rating of 125ºC. SGP tubing is very flexible and does not easily wrinkle when bent. It withstands higher temperature rating, provides better thermal stability and higher resistance to physical abuses than non-crosslinked materials. The product has an operating temperature range from -55ºC to +125ºC.
The product comes in blue, yellow, black, white, red and transparent. Other colours are also available upon request. All colour tubings are flame retarded except for transparent tubing. The product can be supplied in continuous reels or in pre-cut sleeves.

The appropriate end cap for every cable diameter, and cable type.
HEK Cable End Caps
Features and Benefits
End caps are used to seal cables during storage or transportation. HEK end caps can be used as an insulating cap for live LV cables (0.6/1kV), and the cap is marked with a lightning flash to indicate a live circuit. The adhesive lining provides an excellent environmental seal.
End caps can be fitted with air valves for certain pressurised cable applications.
The high shrink ratio minimises the number of end cap sizes needed.
Application
End caps are suitable for use on both polymeric and paper insulated, lead jacketed cables which may include aluminium or steel armouring.

Important Crimping Points
A compression terminal with little material can be crimped with a crimp die designed for this geometry. The same terminal crimped with another die from a different system, where the die is designed for a terminal with a larger barrel, would result in lower crimp reduction which would cause overheating due to poor electrical contact.
Assembly Instructions for Cable Lugs and Ferrules
• Strip conductor according to insertion depth (+ 10% because of length changing of crimp sleeve)
• Conductor ends must be cleaned before termination• Insert conductor fully into cable lug or ferrule• Observing the crimping direction (see pic below), crimp the
cable lug or ferrule using the appropriate crimping tool

PVCHECK MULTIFUNCTION INSTRUMENT TO CHECK SAFETY, PARAMETERS AND PERFORMANCE OF A PV PLANT
The multifunction instrument PVCHECK allows prompt and safe electrical checks required for a PV system (section DC) as well as controls on working of modules / strings in accordance with IEC/EN62446 guidelines. PVCHECK verifies the continuity of the protective conductors (and the associated connections) and executes insulation resistance measurement of the active conductors on a module, a string or a photovoltaic field in accordance with the requirements of IEC/EN62446, without the need of short-circuiting the positive and negative terminals. PVCHECK allows verification of a PV string’s working in accordance with the requirements of IEC/EN62446 by measuring the open circuit voltage and short-circuit current under operating conditions and reporting the results to STC (by means of radiation measure-ment). It provides an immediate outcome for both absolute measurements and for measurements compared with the previously tested PV strings. PVCHECK also allows carrying out performance analysis of PV array (DC) under operating conditions (connected to the inverter) providing an indication of the power generated and the efficiency of the field as specified by IEC/EN62446.

SOLAR300N MULTIFUNCTION INSTRUMENT FOR TESTING SINGLE-PHASE AND THREE-PHASE PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS AND ANALYSING MAINS QUALITY IN COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARD EN50160
SOLAR300N allows carrying out all tests required for the verification of the efficiency of single-phase and three-phase photovoltaic systems. Testing photovoltaic systems requires contemporarily measuring environmental parameters (incident irradiation of modules, temperature of environment and modules) and electric parameters (continuous power, alternating power, etc.). Typically, modules and in-verter can be positioned even at several tens of meters of distance, thus forcing the operator to carry out measurements in different places far from each other at the same time. To carry out these operations, connections by means of long cables or (wireless) radio connections could be necessary, but both these solutions are not acceptable. Cables could hamper the operator’s movements or be a hindrance, while radio waves would be attenuated by floors, reinforced concrete or metal structures, thus making communication impossible. In order to avoid the above-mentioned problems and to carry out measurements with the necessary contemporaneity, SOLAR300N is provided with a remote unit, synchronised with the main unit. The remote unit is positioned next to the photovoltaic modules and it is connected to the probes for measuring environmental parameters (irradiation and temperature). SOLAR300N is connected upstream and downstream of the inverter in order to acquire the electric parameters (continuous power and alternating power). The synchronisation between the two units guarantees the necessary contemporaneity of measurements, the two separate and independent units make measurements comfortable and safe. The instrument can be interfaced with accessory MPP300, which extends the characteristics of SOLAR300N by en-abling recordings on single-phase and three-phase, single-string and multi-string (up to three strings), single-inverter and multi-inverter photovoltaic systems (therefore also in three-phase systems provided with three single-phase inverters). SOLAR300N is also a powerful instrument for the complete analysis of mains quality in compliance with standard EN50160 (harmonic analysis, analysis of voltage anom-alies, flicker, unbalance, etc.). The management software TopView also provides the possibility of creating professional reports, which can be customised by adding the company’s logo, the customer’s data, comments, etc.

IV400 MULTIFUNCTION INSTRUMENT FOR VERIFICATION OF I-V CHARACTERISTIC OF PHOTOVOLTAICSTRINGS AND MODULES
I-V 400 is the ideal solution for the ordinary and scheduled maintenance of photovoltaic systems. With I-V 400, searching for possible fail-ures and problems in systems is extremely rapid, efficient and intuitive. I-V 400 carries out the field measurement of the I-V characteristic and of the main characteristic parameters both of a single module and of module strings. The instrument measures, together with the I-V characteristic of the device being tested, also the values of its temperature and incident irradiation. The acquired data is then processed to extrapolate the I-V characteristic at standard test conditions (STC) in order to proceed with the comparison with the nominal data de-clared by the modules’ manufacturer, thus immediately determining whether or not the string or the module being tested respects the characteristics declared by the manufacturer. In some PV installations, such as roof-top installations, it may be difficult to access the mod-ule output cables. Access to the cables at the combiner box or at the inverter’s inputs may be the only chance. In this case the measurement of I-V characteristics can be achieved by measuring the environmental parameters (irradiation and temperature) through the remote op-tional unit SOLAR-02. The remote unit is positioned next to the photovoltaic modules and it is connected to the probes for measuring en-vironmental parameters. The synchronisation between the two units guarantees the necessary contemporaneity of measurements making possible the extrapolation of the I-V curve at STC without using long extension cords cable. Output current or voltage from the module or string is measured with the 4-terminal method, which allows extending the measurement cables without requiring any compensation for their resistance, thus always providing accurate and precise measurements. In its internal memory, I-V 400 manages a database of photovoltaic modules, which can be updated at any time both via the management software and directly on the instrument. Together with the measurement of the I-V characteristic and the extrapolation of the characteristic at standard test conditions, I-V 400 compares the obtained values with the values declared by the manufacturer, immediately providing the OK / NO result of the test. The operator does not have to do any calculation, nor any difficult operation. The instrument carries out the comparison rapidly and automatically.

SOLARIV MULTIFUNCTION INSTRUMENT FOR TESTING AND VERYFYING SINGLE-PHASE PHOTOVOLTAIC INSTALLATIONS
SOLAR I-V has been designed to meet any requirement of photovoltaic installation specialists. Further to providing the possibility of mea-suring and recording the efficiency of single-string and single-phase photovoltaic systems, SOLAR I-V also measures the I-V characteristic both of a single module and of module strings. Thanks to SOLAR I-V, the operator can test the photovoltaic system and, should it give a negative result, immediately identify the problems of the system in order to promptly solve them. SOLAR I-V is provided with the remote unit SOLAR-02 which permits the remote measuring of irradiation and temperature with preliminary automatic synchronisation between main unit and remote unit. SOLAR-02 is positioned next to the photovoltaic modules and it is connected to the probes for measuring environmental parameters. The synchronisation between the two units guarantees the necessary contemporaneity of measurements. In the case of PV efficiency recordings, this grants the right efficiency calculation. For I-V curve measurements, the synchronisation permits to extrapolate the I-V curve at STC without using long extension cord cables. SOLAR I-V allows the carrying out of efficiency recordings over time with programmable integration period from 5 seconds to 60 minutes. Each value is automatically saved in the internal memory and can be downloaded onto the PC for subsequent analyses. The measured I-V characteristic is not affected by the resistance of the measurement cables, as the measurement is carried out with the 4-terminal measuring method. SOLAR I-V also manages a database of photovoltaic modules, which can be updated at any time. The measured values, correctly reported at standard test conditions, are im-mediately compared with the values declared by the manufacturer to give the OK / NO result of the test. The operator must not do any calculation, the instrument carries out the comparison rapidly and automatically. The instrument can be interfaced with accessory MPP 300, which extends the characteristics of SOLAR I-V by enabling recordings on single-phase and three-phase, single-string and multi-string (up to three strings), single-inverter and multi-inverter photovoltaic systems (therefore also in three-phase systems provided with three single-phase inverters).

MPP300 ACCESSORY FOR MEASURING AND RECORDING THE EFFICIENCY OF SINGLE-PHASE AND THREE-PHASE MULTI-STRING SYSTEMS
The innovative accessory MPP 300, used together with SOLAR 300N or SOLAR I-V, allows measuring and recording the main parameters which characterise single-phase and three-phase, single-string and multi-string (up to three strings) photovoltaic systems. MPP 300 is perfect for use in systems with three-MPPT three-phase inverter and in three-phase systems provided with three single-phase inverters.
MPP 300 is provided with a practical anti-shock “field” case, lightweight and small in size. The front panel carries the LEDs for operating information and the DC and AC inputs for upstream and downstream connection of the inverter(s). MPP 300 interfaces with SOLAR 300N via USB connection and SOLAR I-V via wireless connection. SOLAR 300N and SOLAR I-V are used for MPP 300 settings, to start/stop record-ing electrical and environmental parameters and to enable the download of the recorded values. The distance between the photovoltaic modules and the inverter is often considerable, and this forces the operator to carry out measurements in different places at the same time. Therefore, it would be necessary to lay long connection cables between the environmental probes and the instrument. These cables could hamper the operator’s movements, be a hindrance, etc. This kind of connection is therefore not acceptable. In case of photovoltaic installations on buildings, the so-called photovoltaic roofs, in addition to the problem of the distance between modules and inverter, the presence of floors, of reinforced concrete or metal structures, etc. must be taken into consideration. These structures would make a possible (wireless) radio connection between the environmental probes and the instrument impossible, because of signal attenuation. In order to avoid the above-mentioned problems and to carry out measurements with the necessary contemporaneity, MPP 300 is syn-chronised with the remote unit SOLAR-02 (provided as standard accessory of master instrument SOLAR 300N or SOLAR I-V). The remote unit SOLAR-02 is positioned next to the photovoltaic modules and it is connected to the probes for measuring environmental parameters (irradiation and temperature). MPP 300 is connected upstream and downstream of the inverter in order to acquire the electric parameters (continuous power and alternating power). The synchronisation between the two units guarantees the necessary contemporaneity of measurements, the two separate and independent units make measurements comfortable and safe.
The master instrument SOLAR 300N or SOLAR I-V is only used in the initial and final phase of recording, and it does not play any active role while recording electrical and environmental parameters. Therefore, while MPP300 and SOLAR-02 respectively record the electrical and environmental parameters of the system being measured, it is possible to use the master instrument SOLAR300N or SOLAR I-V for carrying out other measurements. For example, with SOLAR I-V it is possible to measure the I-V characteristics of strings and modules.

PV Cable Connectors
PV connectors are very rugged and can withstand harsh weather as well as tough utilisation. They have a robust snap-in and lock function that prevent them from disconnecting under load, all in compliance with current safety guide lines. These connectors can easily be mounted on our cables or on our junction boxes by using a multifunctional tool specifically developed for these connectors in usage with our junction boxes and cables. Our connectors are IP68.
DC Branch Cable Series is designed to simplify in-field module installations involving parallel-series configurations. Our low-resistant, IP67 branch cables take the labour out of stripping and crimping normally associated with making branch connections, thus reducing your labour cost and improving your workmanship. The DC Branch Cables range are available in 4 types with extensive customisation covering all the branch connections you might need
during the installations:
• 1 to 2
• 1 to 3
• 2 to 2
• 3 to 3

GANTNER - PV System Controls
HellermannTyton represents Gantner Instruments from Germany. Gantner is an international manufacturer of high performance measurement and control instruments engineered specifically for the high-demand test and data acquisition markets. Our full range of universal measurement modules (up to 100 kHz per channel @ 24-bit resolution), programmable automation controllers, and flexible software solutions provide a scalable and open approach to solving the most demanding automation requirements. Founded in 1982, Gantner Instruments products are industry proven in more than 250,000 installations in engine and component test beds, industrial data acquisition installations, and critical measurement applications in a wide array of industries. Our equipment just works. All Gantner Instruments products are designed and built to provide high precision and reliable operation in the most extreme industrial environments. High temperatures and EMI conditions are no problem for us. Our products are manufactured to exacting ISO-9001 standards and have an average MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) of over 20 years.
The U.S. Department of Energy has granted Gantner Instruments a contract for an R&D project in the solar field. Gantner modules will be used in tests for string monitoring in solar parks and photovoltaic systems.
The new string.CC generator connection column was developed for large photovoltaic plans with outputs in the kW to MW range. Free-field facilities are one example of their application. With the string.bloxx product, the individual solar module strings in a photovoltaic power plant can be connected in parallel before sending the power on to a central inverter using cable with a large cross section. Standards are:
• 8, 16, and 24 PV strings.
• 24 Channel versions.

String Combiner Boxes
Three levels to control the system
The string level – Also the Photovoltaic DC generator. Here the
power is generated and taken to various Hensel combiner boxes
for control purposes.
• A few panels or modules are connected in series and is called a
string.
• A few strings are then connected in parallel and combined in a
Hensel generator junction box.
• Inside these Hensel combiner boxes, ‘string-bloxx’ controllers
are installed to monitor the finest of detail throughout the
full circuit.
• These combiner boxes are used for medium to large PV
systems. Any design and production errors will already be
recognised on the DC side for each PV string, regardless of the
inverter, damages, contaminations and burglary.
The Data level – At this level you need to make sure you can
accurately forecast, schedule and monitor the energy you have
generated. Data loggers will record the measured data of
the string monitoring. Furthermore, meteorological data and
other state variables are added. Signal conditioning, storing,
compressing, and communication in many ways are the strengths
of flexible data solution.
The Scada Level – In short, this is where our system reports the
exact condition of your PV Plant. You might be at home, at the
office or Timbuktu; if you are able to connect to the web, or
even use your cell phone, you can remotely log in and request
status reports. If something happens to go wrong, the system
will automatically do a status report to any pre-programmed
destination.
