Hello Everyone, Thank you so much for your patience, your cooperation and your under-standing during this time of flu season and the concern with the coronavirus. It may be bit uncomfortable for us all for a period of time, doing our best to keep the public out, as well as other precautions, but

for now, not one person is showing any signs of the flu or other type illness and that is just exactly the way we want it to remain.

There is great comfort for us when we know we have many folks looking out for us. We continue to receive daily updates from the CDC regarding your safety, providing guidance and the latest updates. Our April 2020 Ex-tra Mile Winner is Katie Smith. Katie was born and raised in Cullman, Ala-bama. She graduat-ed from Rome High School and is now going to Shorter University.

She is single and has no children but does have a niece and nephew.

Katie’s hobbies are traveling, refinishing furniture, and spending time with her niece and nephew. She has a dog who she loves like her child – his name is Hank. Katie loves to go to the beach, enjoys flea markets, and spending time at the lake.

Katie has been working at Renaissance for nine months. She works full time and goes to school full time. Katie states, “I love working at Renaissance because not only do I get to help people but also I have made some great friends. Working in an aging community has enriched my life. I was not sure what to expect when I first started, but the bonds that I have made with the residents are very import-ant to me. I love to hear the stories they tell. Their lives are so interesting, and they grew up in such a different genera-tion. Working at Renaissance has taught

me to be patient, which has helped me in my personal life as well. I love all my coworkers, but my second shift is like my family away from family.”

“One of my favorite memories at Renais-sance is one night while working third shift one of the residents woke up and came downstairs. I did not want her to be alone, so I sat with her for a good fifteen minutes. It was so nice to get to know her! A lot of times during the day you may not get that extra downtime to really spend that quality time with them. I really do love all the residents; I strive to be good at my job and treat the residents as fam-ily, because that is what I would want for my grandparents.”

Katie was nominated for this recognition by staff members. “Katie is such a hard worker, very dependable, and very loving to all the residents. She has a huge heart and truly loves what she does. One of the residents was talking about a specific set of pajamas that she wanted, and Katie took it upon herself to go and get them for her. Katie is always thoughtful, and she truly cares about the residents.”

Congratulations, Katie! Thank you for go-ing the extra mile and taking such good care of our residents. We’re so proud of you and are so happy that you’re a part of our Renaissance team!

The fact that Jesus Christ was born and lived on this earth over two thousand years ago is not disputed. That He taught well and influenced the lives of many is generally accepted. Even His death and burial are

accepted as a fact by most. The claims of His resurrection from the dead are so amazing and so potentially life changing that the “Burden of proof” is upon Christ to validate this event.

Scripture tells us that Jesus showed “himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days,” (Acts 1:3). There are numerous eyewitnesses who saw the resurrected Christ. First, He appeared to Mary Magdalene and the other Mary (Matt. 28:1-9). Luke records that Christ was seen by two disciples travelling to Emmaus (Luke 24:15). He also was seen by the Apostle Peter (Luke 24:34). Once, he was seen by ten apostles – Thomas was absent from this gathering. He later appeared to all eleven Apostles (John 20:19, 26). At the sea of Tiberias, Jesus met with seven of the Apostles (John 21:4). James also had a personal visit with the resurrected Christ (1 Cor. 15:7). Jesus personally led the disciples to Bethany (Luke 24:50) and then He ascended back into Heaven (Luke 24:51). Along with these many appearances we know that Jesus was seen by 500 people at one time (1 Cor. 15:6). I believe we can conclude that Jesus has met the “burden of proof” that He literally rose from the dead.

Could it be that the “burden of proof” is now upon you to accept the facts? There are four

responses that you can have in the face of these “infallible proofs.”

    1. Some choose to DISBELIEVE: “…but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.” (Luke 24:11). Yes, there are people today, just like in Jesus day, who choose not to believe that He rose from the dead.

    2. Some are GRIEVED: The religious leaders were “grieved that they taught the people and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.” (Acts 4:2). The resurrection validated the claims and teaching of Jesus and made the teachings and influence of the religious leaders of the day ineffective – this grieved them.

    3. Some are INTRIGUED: The philosophers, well-educated, and influencers in the days of the Apostle Paul were intrigued by the message of Christ’s resurrection. They wanted to learn more about the message Paul proclaimed (Acts 17:16-21).

    4. Some BELIEVE: When the Apostle Paul proclaimed the message to those who were intrigued it is recorded that “some men joined him and believed…” (Acts 17:34)

The great news of Easter is that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and was victorious over the grave. His resurrection assures us that He alone can offer us forgiveness and a new life. Now the “burden of proof” is with you. What will you do with this great news?

    Believing in Him,Chaplain Mike

    Did You Know?

Did you know we have a resident at Renaissance who was born in Carr, Florida on November 16, 1936? He has nine brothers and sis-ters, one who died of pneumonia at the age of three months. He was raised on a family farm that grew corn, cane, peas and watermelon. He graduated from Blountstown High School and spent two years in the Army working as a radio operator and tested electronic equipment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. There, he and his family made lifetime friends.

He worked at Georgia Pacific for 33 years. He was in charge of three paper machines and was loved by all his employees. He married his wife, Joan, in 1958 and they built their home in Cedar Springs, Georgia. He has two children – Jennifer and Jeff. He also has four grandchildren – Emily, Jackson, Elizabeth and Sarah. Living on a farm, he had cows, chickens, quails and several stray animals that his wife would bring home. His favorite pet was an Australian Shepherd and Blue Healer, appropriately named Blue. which was very protective of him and followed him everywhere he went.

About 15 minutes from their home in the Confederate Navel Yard was their farm on the Chattahoochee River, where he would plant veggies, and fruit trees. He also had an old cane mill where he would make syrup and gift it to friends. He could build any-thing with wood or weld anything together, and also planted the best garden around.

He grills the best steaks, loves old school country music, and especially likes Johnny Cash and Shania Twain. He has lived at Renaissance Marquis a little over one year, and his favorite thing to do is have great conversation with John and Jack.
