1 Introduction
1.1 PurposeThis document explains how to install Citrix receiver and how to use it to remotely connect toyour European Parliament Virtual Desktop environment (VDI). This will allow you to workin the same environment as in the office from any device anywhere in world with an internetconnection. Giving you access to all the files and software that you can normally use only inthe office.In this guide you will learn how to install Citrix Receiver and how to use it to remotely accessyour work desktop on a windows 7 PC.
1.2 PrerequisitesTo be able to use Citrix Receiver to remote connect to your work desktop, you need on yourWindows 7 PC:
An internet connection An RSA token provided by the European Parliament You must be a member of the VDI group

2 Access to the RDS Portal websiteEverything you need to use European Parliament Remote Desktop Services is centralised on awebsite.
Open an Internet browser andgo to the RDS Portal Website :
http://www.europarl.europa.eu
/portalep/Main.html
Then select the VDi button.
You are now in the portal forVirtual Desktop Infrastructure.
From here, you can access toRemote Desktops, user guides,etc.

3 Security authenticationImportant Note
If you are connected to an internet network within a European Parliamentbuilding go straight to step 4. If you are connected to the internet from anywhereelse you must be allowed through the European Parliament firewall.
You must complete a two-step login process.
Click on 1. Security Access.

A new window will appear
(http://lauth1.europarl.europa.
eu:900/).
Enter your EP user name and
click on Submit.
Input your personal pin-codefollowed by the current RSAkey as displayed on theelectronic token. Click onSubmit.
These should have beengiven to you by your LocalSystem Administrator (LSA).
If you do not have a personalpin-code or an RSA key youmay not have access to theremote desktop service. Askyour LSA for moreinformation.

Select "Standard Sign-on".
Click on Submit.
Wait for the authenticationprocess to complete.
Once the process is doneyou will have 6 minutes tocomplete step 4.
If you take longer than that
you will have to perform this
step again. This is a security
precaution.

4 Connection to your Work Desktop
Return to the RDS portalwebsite.
Click on 2. Remote Desktop
Login.
A new window will appearand you will be redirected tothe European ParliamentAccess Gateway.
Direct access:https://tswebvdi.secure.europarl.europa.eu/.
Enter your credentials and
then click on Log On.

If Citrix Receiver isn'tinstalled on your computer,you should see this screen.
If this is your case, followstep 6 to install receiver andthen come back here.
Here is the main screen whereyou should see the desktop(s)you are able to access to.
Click on the virtual machine
"Windows 7 Config Standard"
to remote connects to it.
This icon indicates that the
system is working, looking
for a desktop that is free of
use or trying to start a new
virtual desktop if needed.

This icon indicates that a
session is started.
When a free desktop isdetected, this new windowwill open and indicates toyou that the connectionprocess is in course.
The time the process takes is
depending of your internet
connection speed, the charge
of the infrastructure, etc.
Click on desktop 7.
You finally get the logonscreen of your EP standardWindows 7 workstation.
You should enter your
credentials to logon.

The workstation is preparing
your desktop.
After configuration iscomplete a new Desktop withthe same configuration, files,programs and access rights asyour office PC desktop willappear.Note that the remote desktopis embedded within youractual desktop. You caneasily switch back and forthif you need to work on bothsimultaneously.
You can maximize the size of
the Remote desktop by
clicking on the maximize
button or on the Full-screen
button of the windows top
ribbon.

5 Quitting and logging offAfter using Remote Desktop Services it is important that you quit and log off. Failure to dothis is a security risk. This is particularly important if you are using remote connectionsomewhere outside the EP.
To properly exit your
remote desktop session,
you must (1) open the
Start menu and then (2)
click on "log off"
Then you must go to the
web portal where you
started the RDS session
and click on "Log Off"
on the top right corner.

Logging off will take
you to this website. It
will ask you to exit the
browser tab for security
reasons. Do it.
You have now fully quit
and logged off your
RDS session.
Finally you can click on
the "-" icon on the top
right corner to minimize
the RDS window (1).
This will not exit your
session but leave it
running in the
background.
You can return to it by
clicking on the CITRIX
icon in the taskbar (2).
It will automatically log
off if you do not return
to it within one hour.

6 Download and Install Citrix Receiver
Because Citrix
Receiver isn't
installed on
your computer,
the system
proposes to
install it.
Check the box
"I agree with
the Citrix
license
agreement"
after you have
read it and then
click on Install.

Your Internetbrowser will askyou what youwant to do withtheCitrixReceiver.exesetup file.Click on Run tostart theinstallationprocess or Savethe file on yourcomputer beforeto launch it.
A new windowwill open andshows you theCitrix ReceiverSetup welcomepage.Click on Installto start theinstallation.

Back to the firstpage, just click onLog on to accessthe web interfacethat will permityou to launch aVDI desktop.
