It’s also been reported to us that the feral cats have damaged vapor barriers and in- sulation under our homes. Please do not put food outside your homes so that we can minimize the chance of these wild animals living in our community. Do We Want to Invite

These Creatures to Our Neighborhood?

We realize that there are residents of Palm Bay Colony who love animals, those that are pets and those that are not. We also know that some people are putting food out for the cats who are not pets to anyone. But we don’t know that every-one is aware of some of the consequences of putting food out

for the feral cats in PBC. According to a presentation on the news recent-ly, food that is put out for one animal actually attracts other wild animals that we’re sure you don’t want around your home. These animals include coyotes (that attack small animals such as your dogs and cats), raccoons (who can get into rubbish, and one was recently reported in PBC that was rabid), squirrels ( these can become a nuisance and can also damage screens on our properties). It’s also

been reported to us that the feral cats have damaged vapor barriers and in-sulation under our homes. Please do not put food outside your homes so that we can minimize the chance of these wild animals living in our community. If you’re concerned with the cats, bring them to the SPCA or a facility where they can be put up for adoption.

Thank you for your cooperation in this serious matter.

Barb and Rich have been living in Palm Bay Colony for the past 17 years and will be moving on June 15 to live with their son. We wish them both the very best in their new surroundings. Thanks to John & Cheryl for host-ing this event in their honor. From the Office We celebrated our Mothers and Memorial Day in May, and now we move on to June and cele-brate our Fathers and Flag Day. It’s a busy time in the office and around Palm Bay Colony. We are pleased to announce that the upgrading of the tennis/pickleball courts is complete. We now have a new pickleball court and a fence between the two pickleball courts which will eliminate the need to chase after the balls. On Monday, June 5, the painting of our clubhouse will begin. Because the inside will be painted first, the clubhouse will be closed beginning June 5. We will notify everyone through OneCall when the clubhouse will reopen. We’re hoping to reopen by the weekend of June 10. The pool will remain open through the painting project except for the days they will be painting in the pool area. We have been getting estimates on enlarging the pool deck area to accommodate more tables for parties. This was your first choice on the priority list filled out at our last General Meeting. We will have more news on this as the summer progresses. We’re hoping to call a special meeting to vote on this project so we can complete it by fall. If we do, absentee ballots will be available to those who are not here when the meeting takes place. We are currently updating our census information for 2017. If you haven’t filled out a new form, there is one at the center of this Crier that you can fill out and return to the Office as soon as possible. We have started mailing forms to our snowbirds who are ‘up north’ already. The form will also be available to print off of our webpage. We are getting estimates on the next storm water drain to be replaced...updates to follow. Please remember there is a $5.00 late fee for dues paid after the 10th of the month. We ask that you be cautious and be safe…..if you see anything or anyone that looks ‘out of the ordinary’, please call 911 and report it…..please don’t try to be a hero!

Thanks again to all our volunteers who give so much of themselves and make Palm Bay Colony a great place to live….you are all appreciated! Cheryl

Library News Book Reviews

The Black Box by Michel Connelly

South Central L.A. was a war zone. Gangs ruled the streets — the reason for all the chaos. LAPD officers beating of a black motorist and a jury’s decision of ‘not guilty’ verdict. The National Guard was called in because small crowds of angry people were hanging out on the street corners Harry Bosch, Edgar Robleto, and Delwyn of LAPD homicide got a call— a white woman was found shot in her eye was laying dead in an ally. Her name, Annek Jesperson, a foreign press photographer from Denmark. No gun was found — just one bullet. Because another call came in of another homicide — the Annek Jesperson case had too short a time to investigate and pick up more clues — the case turned cold and was put in the cold case black box—named Snow White. Twenty years later Jerry Bosch was given the case to solve. Harry found out Annek shot photos in war zones and she was on a story involving Desert Storm — was her death a war crime? Did it have to do with the National Guard? Did Harry found out who killed Annek and why? By the way, “a black box” holds all the evidence of a crime. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn A wife goes missing, a husband is a suspect because their living room looks like a wreck with blood everywhere. This is the best review I can give the book — because the story starts slow-ly. By the middle of the story I was wondering if it would get better. I even skipped pages. As a speed reader I never do this — as you read on you have a good idea what’s happening. The book was on the Best Sellers List and a movie was made of it. My opinion ….if the author writes a sequel and calls it “Gone Growl for Good” I may be tempted to read it. For me, it had a bad ending. Dee Zoeller

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,

The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add,

He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so,

He called it ... Dad

We wish all Dads a very happy Fathers Day and a year filled with happiness .

Happenings in our community….. Started out the month of May with a good turnout to celebrate Derby Day at Happy Hour. As usual we named our horses after six of the favorites running in the Kentucky Derby. Twice be-fore this year the winner in our derby was the same as the actual derby. That didn’t happen this year though. We had six races and I had a winner in every race...and I broke even! AND, I had a lot of fun. Isn’t that what it’s all about? There was lots of food and another delicious birthday cake — thanks to Suzanne. There was no one there to celebrate a birthday, but Chya was with us to celebrate her wedding anniversary. Thankfully, we had the anniversary to celebrate and didn’t have to celebrate Dave’s birthday AGAIN! One of our new members, Lorraine, won the Derby Hat Contest and was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Thanks to all who helped with setup and cleanup chores , and to our MC, Mike. It was a fun time. The birthday party Tom threw for Roberta was great fun. Lots of well wishers, great music, and delicious food. Happy Birthday, Roberta! New faces seen this month mixing up and cooking pancakes and sausage in the kitchen. Kathy, Anna Mae, and Delores filled in for Steve and from all the nice compliments I heard, they must have done a good job. Thank you… The Mother of all Mother’s Day Breakfasts was held right here in our clubhouse. Roger has been organizing and hosting this event for several years and this year topped them all. He and his committee of eight men cooked for and served 75 members a delicious and colossal meal. It had everything one could possible want to eat starting with a plate complete with muffins, Danish, fruit and juice. This was followed men serving a dish filled with ham, sausage, bacon, eggs, hash browns and a biscuit to each individual attending. Then Larry came around and served sausage gravy to those who wanted it for their biscuits. Each mother was given a beauti-ful rose when she arrived and, later on, Rose presented each Mother with a lovely yellow rose..her gift to all mothers attending. After breakfast Roger awarded door prizes and some special prizes…..special recognition was given to Una as the oldest mother attending; candy was given to mothers who had daughters with them; Roger had cash prizes too…..Elida got $1.00 for having a penny in her purse; Jen-nifer received $5.00 for her dollar bill that had a “4” on it. Jennifer also won some candy for recit-ing the alphabet backwards! Try that….it’s not easy. Everyone left stuffed and happy. Thank you, Roger and your team of men for treating us ladies like royalty It was a wonderful breakfast. We’ve missed seeing John Conte around the clubhouse for the past several weeks. He’s been busy looking after Mary with her stays in the hospital and rehab. Thank you, John, for all the chores you have done and do for all our members. And our prayers for Mary for a quick recov-ery. Roger has been filling in for John with Coffee Hour. We appreciate all volunteers and the work they do to keep our facility running smoothly and looking great! A good number attended Ice Cream and Bingo this month considering most of our snowbirds have left for the summer. Prizes were a little lower but that didn’t mean we weren’t having fun! Winners for the night were: Bev E., Margaret, Suzanne, Carol E., Diane and Debbie, and Steve (coverall). There were two 50/50 winners, each taking home $30. Thanks to John & Cheryl, Steve & Jennifer, and Dave & Janie for serving the ice cream. Mike even got some applause for his jokes this month! We thank everyone for all your help working this event and thanks for those who attended. (continued on page 3)

Please fill out the Census Form to the right and return it to the Office as soon as possible (if you haven't already done so).

This will help us to update all our records, and have them available to the State of Florida.

Thank you for helping us with this project.

If you have a neighbor who is not a mem-ber of the HOA, please ask them to come to the Office and fill out their census form.

Again, ‘Thank you”!
