1. DEVICES

Students can complete the online assessment and staff can administer student details on a desktop computer (Windows or Mac) with a recent version of Chrome, Internet Explorer or Firefox. The assessment can also be completed with a tablet device (iPad, Android or Windows 8) or most smart phones (iPad, iPhone, Android or Windows 8).

2. LOG IN

Students and staff must log in to the Assessment website by entering the URL http://ex.catholicliteracy.com into a web browser.

Each student and staff member will be given a unique username and password to enter into the appropriate data fields before clicking on the ‘Login’ button.

Teacher and school administrators can use the Administration System (discussed later - teachers refer to section 3b on page 5 and school administrators refer to section 7d on page 16) to download class lists of student usernames and passwords, with a cutoff slip for each individual student's username and password.

3. TEACHER INTERFACE

a. Viewing Class DataTeachers log in in the same way as students (see page 4). The Teacher Administration Interface provides a list of their students' names. If the teacher has more than one class a drop down list is visible.

b. Creating Student Log in ListTeachers can download a class list of students' usernames and passwords as well as cut up individual student username and password slips by clicking on Download Class Lists PDF.

c. Editing Student DataStudent details can be updated as necessary. Update are done automatically. Exit the field and the changes will be saved. A green tick indicates the save is complete.

d. Resetting Student PasswordClicking on a STUDENT NAME will display Student details, defaulting to the USERNAME & PASSWORDS area. The key feature here is the capacity for teachers to reset the student's password. If the student is unable to log in, reset the password. If the student is still unable to log in contact TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

e. AssessmentsClicking on ASSESSMENTS will display assessments that are currently available to the student to complete.

Clicking on RESULTS will display their results for individual students for all the assessments they have undertaken.

f. ReportingOnce logged in click on the REPORTS button.

Use the NEXT / PREV / FIRST / LAST buttons to look through the individual reports.

Select PDF from the export pull down menu to generate a single PDF file that contains all the reports. Save the PDF to your hard drive and print the document.

4. STUDENT TESTING

Once logged in to the site, students will see their name and be prompted to begin their test by clicking on the START ASSESSMENT button. Future tests that have not yet been activated are displayed in grey and cannot be selected.

At any point during the test, students will have the capacity to increase or decrease the font size of the questions by clicking on the A+ and A- buttons.

Questions are answered by simply clicking on the tick box of the desired answer, and then clicking on the SUBMIT ANSWER button.

Students will be prompted to continue the test by clicking on the NEXT QUESTION button. They may also change their answer by clicking on the CHANGE ANSWER button, then re-selecting and submitting their answer.

At any point during the assessment, a student can leave the test by logging off or clicking the browser’s back button and the test will be saved automatically. They can resume the test by clicking on the CONTINUE TEST button, which takes them directly to the next unanswered question.

After completing the test students will be prompted to click the link back to the main page.

My student cannot log on, what do I do?1. Try to login in yourself with their username and password; if that does not work then...

2. Log into the system at ex.catholicliteracy.com ; then...► If you are a teacher, follow the instructions in section 3d► If you are a teacher administrator follow the instructions in section 7c

3. Call Patrick on 0402 344 918.

When we go to ex.catholicliteracy.com we get:

• an error; or • securitycertificateerror;or• redirected to a search page (Google, Sensis, Bing etc.)

1. Type in ex.catholicliteracy.com without the www or the http://; if that does not work then...

2. Type in http://ex.catholicliteracy.com/default.aspx ; if that does not work then...

3. Check the URL in the address bar – make sure it does not have “https:” in the URL ; if that does not work then...

4. Type in http://ex.catholicliteracy.com/default.aspx?a=897 or any other random number; if that does not work then...

5. Call Patrick on the numbers provided below.

6. SUPPORT

At any stage, if you require assistance, there is a SUPPORT button on the top right of each page. If you require IMMEDIATE assistance - e.g. students attempting to complete the assessment and you encounter technical difficulties, please call Patrick Nisbet on (03) 62347917 or 0402 344 918.

After clicking on the SUPPORT button, another window appears titled: "Catholic Literacy Help Centre." Fill in your details and the problem you have encountered in the message field and click SEND. Your query will be responded to.

7. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS

Clicking on a STUDENT NAME will display their results for all tests they have undertaken.

a. Viewing Class Data Names of the students will appear in alphabetical order and teachers can search through the list using the navigation controls or the search function.

c. Resetting Student PasswordA student’s password can be changed by clicking the PASSWORD tab then clicking on ‘Reset Password’. The teacher will then be prompted to confirm the change by clicking ‘OK’. The newly generated password will then be updated in the display.

b. Editing Student DataA new student can be added to the class list by clicking on ADD then adding the details of the student in the appropriate fields. Click on INSERT to update the class list.

d. Creating Student Login ListClicking on the LOGIN LIST button creates a PDF file which lists each student name with their password. A Login List can be generated for any selected class of students.

e. ReportingOnce logged in click on the REPORTS button.
