  • PET bottle Collection Rates

  • Currently, 4.9 MMT of Polyester Products is consumed in India every year

    Major applications: Apparels, Home Furnishing, Filling, Packaging, Straps,

    Monofilament, .. etc.

    Out of 4.9 MMT, 0.8 MMT is been consumed for PET bottles manufacturing

    Collection Rate in India @ 70%, 0.56MMT of bottles collected for Recycling

    Indias Recycling Industry: Growing @ 25% for past 4 years.

    Most of the feedstock requirement is met from the domestic Market.

    INDIA IS AMONG THE LARGETS RECYCLERS OF PET BOTTLES IN WORLD

  • Recycling activity at Reliance is pursued with basic objective of Corporate Social Responsibility towards Society and Nation

    Recycling in Reliance started in the year 1997 with DuPont technology to reuse waste generated in house by Chemical Recycling process

    In 2002 Reliance ventured in to mechanical recycling which uses post consumer

    PET bottles to make Fibre

    Today, Reliance consumes more than 2.02 billion post-consumer PET bottles

    per year & established ~150 collection centres across India

    Today Reliance capacity in mechanical recycling stands over 40 ktpa

    RILs background in Recycling

  • Developed over 150 Vendors across Country

    Organized awareness program for PET recycling

    Established environment friendly process to convert dirty bottles into clean flakes

    We have state of the art ETP system to take care of all the pollutants generated

    during the process of washing

    RILs initiative has generated indirect employment opportunities to over 1.50 lacs uneducated class each day

    Reliance takes proud in their green fibre drive and we are the only one to be registered as Green Fibre manufacturer in India

    With continuous innovation, recycled fiber has re-defined its application in filling, nonwoven and spinning segments

  • Environment Benefits PET

    1. The Life Cycle Energy and GHG

    emissions are the least in PET

    compared to alternates. {1}

    2. PET bottle weights have come down by

    58% from 1989-2009 compared to

    Glass by 11 % from 2000-2012 with

    potential of breakage. {2)

    3. Glass packaging requires 8.5 times

    more packaging by weight compared to

    PET {3}

    4. In India, about 30% of perishables are

    lost during transit. PET/Plastics help to

    reduce these transit losses. {4}

    Due to reverse logistics of glass bottles, the actual transportation

    GHG footprints would be higher in India

  • PET Low Carbon Footprint Packaging

    1. Post Consumer PET has economic value.

    2. PET gets collected from all areas of consumption

    3. India Per Capita PET consumption: 0.58 kg vs 10-12 kg in Developed World

    4. PET collection rate, as percentage of PET domestic market sales is 80%. The

    balance 20% PET remains in circulation with consumers and would enter post

    consumer stream the following year.

    5. Over 1.6 million waste collectors involved in PET collection

    6. There are 40 plants recycling PET into Fiber and textile products ( Ganesha

    Ecosphere, Shiva, Reliance, Arora,.. others)

    7. There are 20 plus plants using recycled PET for polyester strapping (ITW,

    Furus, Plastiblends, others)
