RELI 103: Introduction to Hebrew Bible & Old Testament Literature This course will introduce you to the Hebrew Bible and its study through discussions of key biblical texts. We will use a variety of methods to reconstruct and come to an un- derstanding of the ancient world out of which the Bible emerged. We will also con- sider how the Bible has come to be read today. Rather than proceeding, as do many introductions, book by book through the Hebrew Bible, which is a massive collection of quite diverse content, we will focus on four salient features of the Hebrew Bible: 1) national formation, identity, and the uses of history, 2) representations of divinity, 3) ritual and behavioral norms, and 4) the rise of the Hebrew Bible as Scripture. This course will introduce you to the Hebrew Bible and its study through discussions of key biblical texts. We will use a variety of methods to reconstruct and come to an un-derstanding of the ancient world out of which the Bible emerged. We will also con-sider how the Bible has come to be read today.
