Meeting Notes:

Katie & Dave's best combination of what we heard and wrote down©

Attending: Kent, Neelu, Anthony, David Tanaguchi, Martin, Joaquin, and us.

Kent OK'ed keeping the Integration project open with Blackboard through the beginning of Summer 2011 on a time & materials basis so that we would continue to have access to Joaquin and Mary for integration support.

Joaquin made some suggestions about the content import process:

Content and tool links that are named the same in the template as they are in the Vista import course should merge content and avoid duplication of buttons in the course menu in the target course. Note: This seems to work with the mail/messages and syllabus/information buttons, but does not work with the Course Content/Course Homepage buttons; i.e.; the target course menu still contains BOTH Course Homepage and Course content buttons and the contents of the two are not merged at all.

Joaquin pronounced Anthony and David masters of the Snapshot tool. All integration tests seemed to go perfectly so far. Joaquin is ready to prep the production system for integration.

Joaquin explained the uses of the Password and Course Merge building blocks. There are apparently more options and ways to apply the Course Merge tool than we had realized. It may be possible for instructors maintain only one content area while keeping separate interaction areas for multiple sections of the same course. He indicated that once the contracts were signed and processed, we would receive instructions on how to download and deploy the tools. Apparently this is done through the GUI and we will need to do that with any needed assistance from Blackboard Support. He said they would provide us with instructions on installing the tools along with the download information.

Service Pack 3 is fully available. We can request installation on the test system at any time through Behind the Blackboard. We can then request installation on production after testing. He indicated that there should be no effect on integration, but that he would check to be sure.

On the issue of the "Student View" tab, Joaquin suggested that we identify the capabilities that we wish to have that are not provide by the Edit on/off button and then contact Matt Lord. He indicated that Matt might be able to provide us with a way to replace these functions short of assigning a dummy student account to each instructor. If nothing else, these needs could be submitted as product enhancement requests. One idea we had as a possible compromise here involves creating a small pool (-6) of generic student accounts which faculty could enroll in their courses temporarily, removing them whe:n finishe:cl trrn1hle:-shootins:r.

Initially, the Spring integration process will deal only with the pilot courses. As the semester proceeds Anthony and David may/will begin brining over larger numbers of courses and enrollments to test the integration under load.

IT agreed to let us know if they were going to need to trash any of the content we have on Test so that we would not lose something we were working on unexpectedly.

We believe that Joaquin is going to set up a wrap-up phone call with you, Anthony and Rita next week to cover any remaining issues.

We have already changed the destinations for the Home and Help links in the top frame to the ones you requested. The help link works fine with the https protocol header. Just a thought here; the other option for the help button is to have it take you to the Blackboard Manual appropriate to your institution role. Just something to consider.

Kent expressed a preference to speed up the switchover in order to minimize the time he had to support Vista. ©
