Használata:A beszélő a mondatban visszautal valakire vagy valamire (vonatkozói névmásokkal, pl.: aki, ami, amely, amit, stb.)

Non-defining relative clause

A vonatkozó mellékmondat csak plusz információt közöl (bővítő értelmű), a főmondat értelmezése nélküle is lehetséges. Vesszővel használjuk! (Ha a mondat közepén foglal helyet, akkor előtte és mögötte is.)

George Bush, who is the president of the USA, went to California.The house of the Petersons, which is in our neighbourhood, is really shabby.

Vonatkozói névmások:

Ha a vonatkozói névmás alanya a vonatkozói mellékmondatnak:

My boss, who is very nice, lives in Manchester.The photographer discussed something with the Queen, who looked annoyed.These books, which are sold in different colours, are worth reading.My bicycle, which was really expensive, is falling apart.

Ha a vonatkozói névmás a tárgya a vonatkozó mellékmondatnak:

Peter, who/whom everybody blamed, turned out to be innocent.The role is played by Kathy, who/whom you all know.He gave me the letter, which I had read immediately.My bicycle, which I've been using for 10 years now, is falling apart.

Ha a vonatkozói névmás birtokos esetben van a vonatkozói mellékmondatban:

Julie, whose children are at school all day, is trying to get a new job.I like Josh, whose car is nicer than yours.That umbrella over there, whose colour is green, is mine. / That umbrella over there, the colour of which is green, is mine.

Prepozíciós szerkezetek

A prepozíció az ige mögé kerül:
