Historic buildings, hidden courtyards and the river all reveal King’s Lynn’s story from small settlement to successful port and elegant town – along with the stories of the people who left their mark here. Wealthy merchants, naval heroes, brave sailors and bold smugglers have all left their stories waiting to be heard. Meet outside Stories of Lynn. See 5 on map.

Hanse WalkThis walk explores King’s Lynn’s long and illustrious maritime tradition. You will have insight to the old and the new Hanseatic leagues whilst also discovering the fascinating history of key Hanseatic sites, one of which is the only surviving Hanseatic warehouse in England. Meet at the Custom House. See 4 on map.

A Walk in the ParksLynn’s three town parks hide a wealth of history, from the 13th century to the present day. Join us for a gentle Sunday afternoon stroll through Tower gardens, once home to the Greyfriars, the Walks, first laid out as a park in the 18th century, and St James’s park. Discover the Red Mount Chapel, St John’s Church and the site of the former workhouse. This walk is all on level ground and particularly suitable for wheelchair users. Meet at Tower Gardens. The Hanse and the Warehouse on the Wash – Thursday 22 July at 2pmCovering several centuries, this walk explores the buildings that supported the towns’ commerce and helped it prosper. You will see buildings that have changed and adapted as the course of the river bank moved westward. Starting at St George’s Guildhall – a remarkably complete guild complex, our tour also includes the country’s only remaining Hanseatic Warehouse. Meet Peter Jackson at St George’s Guildhall. Four Churches and a Chapel – Wednesday 28 July at 2pmSpanning ten centuries, this tour takes in an eclectic mix of ecclesiastical buildings in a wide range of architectural styles, some of which Pugin and Salvin influenced. See an anchorite’s cell, a Grade I listed Victorian park and its unique pilgrim chapel and a monastery garden with the Leaning Tower of Lynn. Learn how Edward VII helped provide a place of worship for the King of Spain. Meet Richard Morley at Tower Gardens. See 6 on map

The River Walk – Thursday 29 July at 4pmWe start with a ferry crossing, followed by a walk along the west bank, from which the best views of Lynn can be enjoyed. Crossing back at South Lynn Bridge, we discover Harding’s Pits, following the river back to the Custom House. Walking shoes are recommended. Meet Niki Jenkins at the Ferry Terminal, Ferry Lane. Thursday evening walksOld Lynn, New Pubs – 3 June & 15 JulyA walk through King’s Lynn’s ‘old town’ discovering how historic sites have been brought back into new use, including visits to three pubs in some of the most important locations. Meet Ivor Rowlands outside Stories of Lynn. See 5 on map

Gaywood Through Time – 10 JuneGaywood’s history is older than Lynn’s. This walk will explore the development of Gaywood from Bishop’s residence, to rural village and Bagge family estate, to the busy suburb of King’s Lynn that we know today. Meet Doreen Leventhall at the old gate to King Edward VII academy. Distance is around one mile from King’s Lynn Town Centre.

The North End: Trade, Buildings and People – 17 JuneA tour of the North End looking at the buildings that remain, the lives of the people who lived here and their trades, legal and not so legal. Meet Pat Fysh and Mike Goward outside True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum. See 1 on map
