Greeting from the President of JAAGAI am Harukazu Saitoh, President of Japan-America Air Force Goodwill Association (JAAGA).JAAGA is comprised of alumni of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF)

and other members who are willing to engage in the mission and purpose of theorganization. Since it was established in 1996, JAAGA has committed itself tovarious activities for the purpose of contributing to even better cooperation andincreased mutual understanding between the two air forces of Japan and theUnited States, who work together for operation in defense of the air domain.

The current security environment of Japan is more difficult than anyone couldimagine when JAAGA was created. In such an environment, it is even strongerJapan-U.S. alliance with the two nations working in close collaboration andcoordination that the peace and prosperity of Japan and the surrounding regioncan be built up on. The objective of JAAGA is to support in every possible waythe active duty members of both air forces of Japan and the U.S. with theireveryday efforts to keep improving the cooperation between the two.

Japan has moved from the era of Heisei into a new one called Reiwa and the times will always keepchanging. It is our resolution, however, to continue working with our utmost effort for making the bondbetween JASDF and USAF more robust and to contribute to the peace and stability of the two nationsin keeping with changes in time and situations. I would like to sincerely request your understandingand support for JAAGA and vigorous participation as a member of this association.

For more than 40 years since its establishment, JASDF, together with USAF, has kept securingsovereignty of Japan in the sky. It is no exaggeration to say that the power of JASDF depends on therelationship of trust between the two air forces.

On the other hand, there is no denying that Japan-US securityrelations has been relatively scarce because of changes to theinternational environment after the end of the Cold War as well aschanging economic relations between Japan and the U. S.Unfortunate event made government-level formalities complicatedand the reaction of Japanese citizens has largely been affecting themorale of US military personnel and their families.

In these severe situation, it is very important for those whoshare the experience of being in the air force to strive for morereliable Japan-US relations, which tend to weaken when neglected.

We, the thankful JASDF veterans who feel indebted to USAFand believe that strong ties between JASDF and USAF isindispensable for national security, have determined, under“Tsubasa-kai”, to powerfully back active duty JASDF and USAFpersonnel, by organizing individual efforts, encouraging and raisingmorale of the members of USAF,deepening mutual trust betweenJASDF and USAF, and hoping to impart on US citizens a greaterfeeling of trust.

This is the birth of JAAGA.
