The Annual Meeting kicks off onSaturday, November 10. This is the majorarrival day when attendees pick up their reg-istration packets from the IOMA ServiceDesk. We have scheduled an eveningWelcome Reception at the hotel that will giveattendees the opportunity to greet and net-work with colleagues.
On Sunday morning, IOMA is offering atour of Concha y Toro Winery, Santa RitaWinery with lunch in the winery’s restaurant,and a tour of the Andean Museum. This is agreat opportunity to sample some Chileanwines as well as view over 1,800 pieces ofpre-Columbian art.
On Sunday evening, there will be a recep-tion and dinner at Club de la Union, locateda short drive from The Ritz-Carlton in down-town Santiago. IOMA attendees will dine atthis exclusive club and enjoy traditionalChilean music and dance.
On Monday afternoon, following thefirst General Session, attendees have theoption to tour Matetic Winery, one ofChile’s most remarkable wine estates utilizing a biodynamic pro-duction process. Attendees will tour the state-of-the-art winemakingfacility, followed by an opportunity to match tasty tapas (small bites)with several varieties of wines to achieve the “Perfect Pairing”.
Monday evening is IOMA’s President’s Banquet. The black-tie(formal) reception and dinner at The Ritz-Carlton will be followedby awards presentations and dancing in the hotel’s main ballroom.
On Tuesday, following the second General Session, attendeeshave the opportunity to experience an authentic Chilean Rodeo atPuro Caballo, a horse ranch that highlights the beauty and nobilityof the Chilean horse, historic equestrian traditions and fine localgastronomy. Participants will enjoy a traditional Chilean meal atthe ranch’s El Estribo Restaurant, followed by the rodeo show.
On Tuesday evening, we will conclude the meeting with IOMA’straditional Closing Reception followed by a Dine-Out Night.

Air Products to AcquireMajority Stake in Indura
Air Products & Chemicals, Inc, (Allen-town, PA, USA) has announced a
definitive agreement to purchase a 67%majority stake in Indura S.A. for US$884million/CLP 451 billion. Indura, head-quartered in Santiago, Chile, is SouthAmerica’s largest independent industrialgas company. It deal is expected to closeby early July, subject to certain closingconditions.
Once completed, the transaction willposition Air Products as the secondlargest industrial gas producer in LatinAmerica, a region second in growth onlyto Asia. By taking a majority stake inIndura, Air Products will extend its LatinAmerican presence to twelve countries,enabling the company to benefit fromgreater economies of scale and a largetalent pool to service multinational cus-tomers in more markets.
“Air Products’ investment in Indura con-tinues our strategy to expand our globalpresence in high growth regions withstrong local partners,” said John E.McGlade, chairman, president and chiefexecutive officer. “This is a winning part-nership offering double-digit growth withsolid returns. Indura is a very well knownand respected brand that represents aquality business, strong leadership anddedicated employees. “Joining the Air Products family willposition Indura to benefit from the tech-nologies, experience and best practicesof a successful global player in the indus-trial gases industry. This will allow us toleverage our market knowledge and long-term relationships we have established inLatin America,” said Hernán BrionesGoich, chairman of Invesa. Invesa is theholding company of the Briones family,which today is the controlling shareholderof Indura and will be an important part-ner to Air Products in this investment.
Founded in 1948, Indura has annual
sales of $478 million/CLP 244 billion. Itsintegrated gas and retail businessincludes liquid bulk, small on-sites andpackaged gases. The company has morethan 2,300 employees, over 20 produc-tion plants, over 40 filling sites and morethan 100 retail outlets in the countries ofArgentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador andPeru. Air Products already has existinginterests in Latin America, through itswholly-owned businesses in Argentina,Brazil and its joint venture, Grupo Infra,headquartered in Mexico.
Linde Expands Footprint inChina with Samsung Agreement
The Linde Group’s (Munich, Germany)joint venture with LienHwa MiTAC
Group of Taiwan, a leader in electronicsgas supply and solutions, todayannounced a significant long-term dealwith Samsung Electronics to supply gasesfor its latest 8.5 generation TFT-LCD man-ufacturing plant in Suzhou Industrial Park(SIP), China. Industrial gases are essentialto the production of transistors that controlthe pixels in LCD screens. This major gassupply contract marks a further milestonein Linde’s continuing expansion in Asiaand is strategically significant for LindeLienHwa’s position in eastern China.
Linde has become the first choice gassupply partner for TFT-LCD manufacturingin China with substantial gas contracts inplace with the three largest flat panel dis-play manufacturers. Very large volumesof ultra-high purity gases play a criticalpart in the manufacture of TFT-LCDscreens. They are used to create themicroscopic thin-film transistors (TFT)required to control each of the thousandsof pixels that make up the visible image.According to IHS iSuppli, global largepanel area capacity is set to increase by78 percent in the next four years, reach-ing 283 million square meters by 2015.In 2012 alone, the analyst specialist pre-dicts a 30 percent growth in large panelarea capacity globally, with an increaseof 151 percent in China.
Under this agreement, Linde LienHwawill provide Samsung Electronics with a
turnkey installation of the TFT-LCD plant’sbulk gases supply systems, with a gas-on-line date of the end of 2012. LindeLienHwa’s extensive scope includes theconstruction of a new on-site SPECTRA-N30,000 series nitrogen generator supply-ing gas to Samsung via an undergroundpipeline. Overall investment is in theregion of EUR 50 million (RMB 500 mil-lion). This will double Linde LienHwa’scapacity in Suzhou Industrial Park, anddemonstrates the significant growthpotential of this market.
Messer Starts Three NewASU’s In Western China
Messer Group GmhB (Bad Soden,Germany) recently put three new air
separation units into operation in thewestern Chinese province of Sichuan.Two of the three new facilities will eachproduce around 30,000 normal cubicmeters of air gases such as argon, oxy-gen and nitrogen per hour, and will sup-ply the new steel plant operated byPanzhihua Iron and Steel Group (PG) inXichang. The third facility has a capacityof 40,000 normal cubic meters per hour.This will meet PG’s growing demand inPanzhihua. The new facilities will alsoenable Messer to supply regional cus-tomers more quickly and reliably. In addi-tion to the newly opened facilities, Mess-er is planning further investment in west-ern China over the next two years.
Various other Messer projects in Chinaare currently in the construction phase: inChengdu, an air separation unit with acapacity of 528 tones per day will go intooperation at the end of the year. This willallow Messer to guarantee a better supplyto its existing customers as well as the rap-idly growing electronics industry. InChongqing, the start-up of an air separa-tion unit for 10,000 normal cubic metersof air gases per hour and a liquefier for300 tones of liquefied gases per day isplanned for the coming year. The facilitiesare being built in the economic and tech-nological development zone of the munic-ipal district of Changshou and will supplythe leading chemical manufacturers

based there with industrial gases.In Yunnan province, an air separation
unit for 18,000 normal cubic meters perhour is currently under construction. It willsupply Kunming Iron and Steel Group’splant in Yuxi with gases. In Haikou, theconstruction of an air separation unit for300 tones per day will begin shortly. Bothprojects are due to be completed in thenext 18 months.
Air Products Signs New GasSupply Contract with TianmaMicroelectronics
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (Allen-town, PA, USA) recently announced it
has signed a long-term contract with Xiamen Tianma Microelectronics Co. Ltd.for the supply of bulk gases includingultra high-purity nitrogen and oxygen,hydrogen, argon, and helium at its newfacility, which is China’s first 5.5 genera-tion low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS)thin-film transistor liquid crystal display(TFT-LCD) and color filter production line,at Xiamen Xiang’an Industrial Park, FujianProvince. Xiamen Tianma is an affiliate ofShenzhen-listed Tianma MicroelectronicsCo. (Tianma), China’s leading small- andmedium-sized TFT-LCD maker. It leveragesTianma’s abundant experience in researchand development, production, and man-agement in the TFT-LCD industry. Air Prod-ucts has been supplying bulk gases toTianma’s facility in Shanghai and elec-tronics materials to its Chengdu plant.
Air Liquide Starts New SteamMethane Reformer in Texas
Air Liquide S.A. (Paris, France)announced recently the formal start
up of a new Steam Methane Reformer(SMR) in La Porte, Texas, USA. The 120million standard cubic feet per day ofgaseous hydrogen produced by the SMRwill feed into the company’s pipeline sys-tem along the Texas Gulf Coast, includingthe recently built 85 mile pipeline expan-sion to supply refineries in Port Arthur,Texas. Hydrogen is used in the oil refiningprocess to convert heavy crude oil intoclean burning transportation fuels andpetrochemical feed stocks. Michael Graff,
President and Chief Executive Officer ofAmerican Air Liquide Holdings, Inc.,expressed appreciation to employees andall construction personnel for more than1.2 million safe, injury free work hours onthe project.
In addition to the benefits of hydrogenin manufacturing cleaner gasoline, thegas increasingly is being used with fuelcells for transit buses and fork lift trucksfor materials handling. Earlier this month,Air Liquide Industrial U.S. LP (ALIUS)announced a demonstration project for ahydrogen-powered fuel cell transit bus inBirmingham, Alabama, USA. In January2012, ALIUS began supplying hydrogento a fleet of 37 hydrogen-powered fuelcell fork lifts at a leading soft drinkmaker’s bottling and distribution facility inCalifornia.
MATHESON Opens New RetailFacility in Tornado-StrickenJoplin, Missouri
MATHESON (Basking Ridge, NJ, USA)recently opened its new facility in
Joplin, Missouri, USA. The new buildingreplaces the structure lost in a devastatingtornado last year. MATHESON has sup-plied compressed gases, welding equip-ment, and related items from its facility onSouth Davis Boulevard in Joplin since2002. On Sunday, May 22, 2011, a tor-nado estimated to be 1.5 miles wide cuta swath through that part of the city. Thestore was “A total loss, except for our liq-uid vessels,” according to Jeff Lackore,MATHESON Area Retail Manager. Thesite includes liquid storage for oxygen,nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and argon.
Remarkably, apart from the Mondayafter the storm when most of Joplin wasclosed under a state of emergency,MATHESON never needed to close theJoplin business, not even temporarily.MATHESON’s other locations in theregion supplied product to customers andlent delivery trucks to the Joplin operation.The debris was cleaned up, and a fencewas erected to secure the site. Local oper-ations were restored quickly; initially fromthe remaining concrete slab, and laterfrom inside a 98 foot tent.
MATHESON, just like many businessoperations in Joplin, quickly committed toan ambitious rebuilding plan. The newJoplin store opened just two weeks afterthe one year anniversary of the deadlytornado. MATHESON’s South CentralZone Vice President, Daniel Lambert, cutthe ribbon to officially open the new storeand commented, “The fact that we havea brand new structure up and operatingin a year’s time is a tribute not only to theMATHESON team in the region, but to allthe hard-working people of Joplin. Therecovery of this city is amazing.”
The new store includes a state-of-the-artretail front end, with 1,400 square feet ofsales display and demo space. “That isalmost double what we had before, witha better layout,” says Lackore. “It’s beena pleasure to set up, and we expect thatcustomers will find the new front end easyto navigate, with shelf stock easy to find.”
The Company also took the opportu-nity to modernize and expand the gascylinder depot and product inventorystockroom. “The work areas are morespacious and generally a better environ-ment for productivity and safety,” saysKlopnieski. The filling and cylinder depotareas are scalable, to accommodatefuture expansion.

Molinini will succeed him asPresident and Chief Executive Officer.
