Most Loving God, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish are composed of people like me. I help make my
parish what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will make generous
gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring other people to love and serve You, if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish
of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and a parish with a noble spirit, if I, who know that I belong, am filled with these same gifts.
Therefore, with Your help, Gracious God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all of the things that I want my parish to be. Amen.

March 17, 2019 Second Sunday of Lent Transformed by Christ
Reading I Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 (the covenant with
Abram)
Reading II Philippians 3:17-4:1 (Christ our goal)
Gospel Luke 9:28b-36 (Jesus transfigured)
Key Passage “But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is
from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus
Christ.” (Philippians 3:20)
Adult How are your priorities affected by your faith in
Jesus Christ?
Child When you have important choices to make, do you
and your family pray to make the right choice?
Deacon’s Desk Well another Lent has begun. Are we ready to
make some small changes in our lives, to better
follow that narrow road Jesus talks about in the
Gospels? As Lent begins we again have a chance,
to take some time to inspect our lives to see what
we may need to do, to get closer to God and His
Son. Our parishes give us plenty of opportunity for
prayer throughout the 40 days of Lent. We've
started this past week with the Stations of the Cross.
What a wonderful opportunity to walk with Jesus
on His "Way of the Cross." And Adoration, which I
call a "one on one conversation" with Our Blessed
Lord. The Rosary is available every Thursday at
Sacred Heart. And also, all the Masses that are
available on the weekend at both our parishes and
Confession as well. There is no reason to feel our
parishes are not here for us and also willing to give
us Spiritual direction if we ask for it.
Remember, Jesus is always seeking us out, always
calling us by name, but many times the concerns
and comforts of our life block His voice from
reaching our ears, much like Zacchaeus in the
Gospels, whose short stature prevented him from
seeing Jesus through the crowd of people always
following Jesus. But something wonderful happens.
Jesus calls him by name. His life changes and he
sees things and people differently through his
encounter with Our Blessed Lord.
Have a great Lent and God Bless you,
Deacon George +

Formed Pick of the Week
Our Lord teaches that prayer is a relationship and a
vital necessity. And yet, many of us have difficulty
committing to daily prayer. Follow Jesus into the desert
this Lent and discover intimacy with God in this 6-
week video-based study with daily meditations in the
participants guide. Dr. Tim Gray masterfully uses the
discipline of Lectio Divina to show you how to make
prayer an effective effort of love and intimacy. This
series captures the secret to opening our hearts and
minds to Scripture as the means to hear from God and
then respond in conversation, basking in his presence
and resolving to live in and through his love.

2019 Diocesan Annual Campaign
Commitment Weekend Today is Commitment Weekend for the 2019 Diocesan
Annual Campaign, formerly known as the Bishop’s
Annual Lenten Appeal. We ask that all parishioners
prayerfully consider the opportunity today to offer a
monetary gift or make a pledge to the Diocesan Annual
Campaign. We would like everyone to participate in
helping Our Lady Help of Christians Church reach its
goal this year of $19,300 and Sacred Heart of Jesus
Church reach its goal this year of $8,000. Those who
have not given in previous years, please make this year
your first gift, and for those who have given before, we
are so very grateful and we need your help again this
year. The money raised helps to support many Catholic
charities as well as Catholic based events. Thank you
for being a part of the Campaign and may God bless
you for your generosity.
