Financial Aid for Camps and Future College StudyScholarships and financial assistance are available to enable students to experience new career paths and follow their passions. Please call 970.255.2800 to discuss available options. Students who complete one or more summer camps and one or more concurrent courses may be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship each year for their first two years of college at CMU, WCCC, CMC or CNCC.

Reach Your Peak is a partnership between colleges in northwestern Colorado with the goal of creating excitement about learning which will motivate students towards a bright future and further education. Partners include Colorado Mesa University, Colorado Mountain College, Colorado Northwestern Community College and Western Colorado Community College. The program is also supported by the Northwest Regional Council of El Pomar Foundation.

Western Colorado Community College and Colorado Mesa University support the growth and development of the youth in western Colorado through offering many experiential hands-on learning opportunities during the summer break for middle and high school students. These interactive camp experiences explore many future career options for students, give them a jumpstart in learning technical programs, develop strong personal growth skills and are a lot of fun!

Through the generous support of the El Pomar Foundation, we are able to support these camps and make them affordable to all kids in the area. Through the Reach Your Peak grant program more camps are being offered in 2018 than in any other year. We have a wide variety of camps that are fun and interesting. Be sure to review the camp descriptions in this catalog as you might find something you never thought about exploring. Most of the camps are a week long and in most weeks you can attend a camp in the morning and then a different one in the afternoon! Camps fill quickly so please register as early as possible.

A limited amount of financial scholarships are available to help pay for these camps. Please give us a call at 970.255.2800 to discuss options prior to registration.

CULINARY ARTS

Chef Camp: Pancakes, Waffles and Crepes

Not the all famous Pancakes, Waffles, Crepes, and Blintzes are limited to breakfast. This week students are going to change up the famous recipes to include dishes that can be for lunch and dinner as well as breakfast. We will focus on simple recipes that can be traditional or exotic. How about a pancake topped with Captain Crunch, banana, and peanut butter for breakfast? Or a pancake made into a taco and filled with a meat filling and salsa for dinner. Alternatively, a crepe with chicken salad for lunch. We have waffles that we will make into French toast or bread pudding, topped with a blueberry sauce. Waffles for breakfast and dinner with ice cream and berries. Rich cheese blintzes with a fruit compote, or Russian blinis with smoked salmon and a spring salad. To touch on the exotic, we will have a little caviar with our blinis. Students will be working in the culinary and the baking lab to develop knife skills, cutting vegetable skills, baking skills, and understanding recipes. Come have fun!

Chef Camp: Southern Cooking

As a kid, my favorite day of the week was Sunday. We would all sit down at the table and share stories of the week. Of course a meal was involved, we would have fried chicken, garden vegetables, mashed potatoes, potato salad, homemade rolls, sweet tea, and finish with fruit crisps or pie. Students, this week we hit the south. From my Sunday to yours, we will learn how to cut up a chicken and fry it as my mom and grandma taught me. We will also make delicious mac and cheese, potato salad, deviled eggs, and casseroles. We will bake too: steaming fresh rolls and cherry crisp with homemade ice cream. This, then, can be your new Sunday!
