WORLD GOLD 2013CONFERENCE
Proudly hosted by
www.ausimm.com.au/worldgold2013
Your InvitationFollowing the very successful World Gold Conferences, held biannually since 2005 in Calgary, Cairns, Johannesburg and Montreal, World Gold 2013 will be held in Brisbane, Australia, with the theme Challenges in Gold Mining. This conference is unique in that it includes all aspects of gold mining, including exploration, geosciences, mining (including geotechnical aspects), metallurgy (processing), environmental and other related themes.
Exploration remains a high priority in many gold provinces and various countries, and discoveries continue to be made around the world. Both well-established gold-producing countries and new frontiers are scenes of recent successes. One trend over the last two decades has been the greater proportion of discoveries that are gold-plus-copper or only gold-containing, compared to the historically dominant gold-only style. The industry is redeveloping brownfields, revisiting older (previously submarginal) as well as looking at poly-metallic gold deposits with lower gold content. These deposits usually have higher energy costs and a significant need for water. They might also experience labour market problems, which can be country-or region-specific. The challenge is to ensure sustainability as well as to provide technically sound mining and processing options to satisfy both the shareholders and financiers. As new countries become more prominent in the gold market each will have an increasing influence on the industry. These challenges are reflected in the excellent papers selected for the World Gold 2013 technical program.
We are very fortunate to have secured some of the best plenary and keynote speakers in the industry who manage various gold and gold-related companies, and they will share with us various aspects of their companies’ challenges in the industry. The selection of some, 60 papers reflects the theme and related topics as well as ensuring quality papers will be presented.
Attendance at this conference will equip you with the strategies, methods and models you will need to address the issues concerning the gold industry business in the future. World Gold 2013 presents an important opportunity to hear first-hand experiences of a dynamic industry that is rapidly adapting to changes.
Due to the diversity of gold mining interest, various workshops will be incorporated within the program and the conference will be followed back-to-back by The Second AusIMM International Geometallurgy Conference 2013 (GeoMet 2013).
A sell-out trade exhibition of 25 exhibitors will add to the atmosphere and we thank our sponsors for their continued support.
On behalf of the World Gold 2013 organising committee, I invite you to attend the Conference, which is to be hosted by The AusIMM in Brisbane, Australia. Register now to ensure that you are better equipped to successfully manage challenges in the gold industry in the future.

W3: Sampling and Testing for Geometallurgical Programs: How to Design and Implement Sampling and Testing Programs Sunday 29 September
This one-day course will show you how to design and implement sampling and testing studies and has been specially designed for anyone involved, or about to become involved, with geometallurgical programs. Geometallurgy is the understanding of metallurgical parameter variability based on geoscientific information such as mineralogy, grade, geochemistry and lithology. Geometallurgy aims to model variability within an orebody to allow optimal exploitation. To develop knowledge of metallurgical variability requires the collection of samples and their subsequent testing.

W1: Formation of Gold Deposits, Phillipsgold Pty LtdSaturday 28 September 2013
This short course is designed for exploration and mining geologists. It provides a comprehensive coverage of the principles of how gold-bearing fluids are produced, migrate and finally form gold deposits. This coverage leads to understanding the various roles of rock types, structures, alteration and overprinting by high-grade metamorphism and/or regolith processes.
Learning from the short course is applicable to all gold-dominated systems (‘gold-only’), and some contrasts are made with gold systems rich in base metals. There is a mix of the conventional and some newer ideas on the world’s major gold provinces, giving participants a platform from which to introduce some innovations to their company’s exploration.
Participants will have access to virtually all the published sources, including figures and data from which the short course is drawn.

W5: GeoMet Domaining Tools Thursday 3 – Friday 4 October 2013
This course is designed for those interested in learning how to create geometallurgical domains within an orebody and is intended to provide sufficient practical experience to allow participants to begin applying the techniques in their work place. The focus will be on the use of tools to create domains for throughput and domains for recovery.
A range of (new) tools and methodologies are now available that allow sufficient density of data to be collected in a timely and cost-effective manner to permit domain definition relatively easily and inexpensively. Once defined, domains can be included in geometallurgical models of ore deposits where they can be applied to mine planning and optimisation.
