General Information

Intended Audience

Physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, nurses, surgical technologists, radiologic technologists, social workers, psychologists, occupational and physical therapists, certified medical dosimetrists, certified tumor registrars, and medical office staff in all specialties.

Program Overview

The sole objective of this symposium is to educate all physicians and healthcare personnel regarding the current diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary fashion.

Through this CME activity, the participant should better understand theories and facts related to the development of breast cancer, current imaging and diagnostic modalities, surgical treatment, adjuvant therapies of chemotherapy and radiation, breast reconstruction, and managing patients with breast cancer. This activity will also educate the participants about breast cancer from a multidisciplinary approach. This symposium hopes to help physicians and healthcare personnel reach a better understanding related to all aspects of breast cancer and how we all may contribute to help individuals overcome this disease while maximizing quality of life.

Educational Objectives

Identify specific factors that affect sexual health after

breast cancer treatment and identify solutions.

Define fast breast MRI and the differences between

standard and abbreviated protocols for breast MRI.

Describe the pathologic features of pleomorphic LCIS

and classic LCIS.

Describe how the results of the Z11 trials have

affected the surgical approach of the axilla and how

it has changed pre-operative axillary ultrasound.

Compare the potential benefits and pitfalls of

contralateral risk-reducing mastectomy.

Summarize surgical management of lymphedema.

Discuss updates in treatment options for metastatic

breast cancer.

List available short-term and long-term endocrine

therapy options for pre-and post-menopausal

women.

Describe requirements and advantages of National

Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

accreditation.

Identify appropriate breast lesions requiring excision

and those that can be safely monitored without

excision.

Compare the benefits of gamma knife surgery and

whole brain radiation during radiation treatment

for metastatic breast cancer.

Discuss the importance of radiology and pathology

concordance.

Identify the patient who will benefit from oncoplastic

augmentation surgery after lumpectomy.

List advantages of interstitial brachytherapy over

whole breast radiation in the augmented breast.

Cite short-term and long-term survivorship issues of

the breast cancer survivor.

List advantages of digital tomosynthesis over

conventional 2D imaging.

All fees include registration, educational materials and instruction, CME and CE recording, continental breakfast, refreshment break, and lunch.

Symposium Location and Parking

The JUMP Trading Simulation and Education Center is located on the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center campus. Free parking is available in the North Parking Deck of the main hospital, adjacent to the JUMP Center.

The address for the JUMP center is 1306 N. Berkeley Avenue Peoria, IL 61603 and is easily accessible from I-74.

Lodging

Air Travel

The Peoria area is served by Allegiant Air, American, Delta, and United Express through the Peoria International Airport (309-697-8272). Commercial limousine or taxi service is available from the airport. The Peoria International Airport is available for use by private aircraft through Byerly Aviation or through the Mt. Hawley Airport.
