Mission & History of NAASC The National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC) is the official organization that supports Spelman College, a historically black college for women, through financial gifts, student recruitment, sisterhood, community service, and recognition of Spelman women. The Association provides, encourages and promotes growth and development of alumnae through leadership opportunities and partnership alliances. NAASC actively seeks to involve all former students and graduates in the fulfillment of its purpose. The Alumnae of Spelman Seminary began in 1892, and the Detroit Chapter followed suit, organizing on May 7, 1931. Before and after incorporation of the NAASC in 1976, the Detroit Chapter (Detroit NAASC) has consistently supported the goals and mission of Spelman College through financial support and recruitment of talented students from the metropolitan Detroit area. The Detroit Chapter has emphasized alumnae networking and the identification and promotion of projects deemed to be of special concern to the Black community and Black women in particular.

GREAT LAKES REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Dear Spelman Alumna, Welcome to Detroit and to the historic Charles H. Wright Museum! We are happy to share in this celebration as our NAASC Great Lakes Region continues to grow and thrive. There is no better proof for this than gathering 10+ chapters together for this year’s Regional Conference. We hope you enjoy this chance for empowerment, take full advantage of the fellowship and truly embody this year’s theme, “Self, Health & Wealth: The Empowered Spelman Woman.” Not only will this regional conference bring us closer together, but also it is an opportunity to… - improve yourSELF and our chapters with new insights on personal and organizational branding - examine our HEALTH with continue support from our American Heart Association partners - and increase our WEALTH as we share our best fundraising strategies across the region As you participate in conference events this weekend, we hope that you will be empowered to continue to support the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College and our mission driven initiatives. Thank you for your time and talents. We look forward to serving with each of you in the future. Sisterly, Daphne L.
