It gives me immense pleasure to invite you to the
Half Yearly Meetings of Northern Region to be held that Srinagar on 14 September, 2013. It has been the
tradition in the past to hold the Half Yearly Meetings
at different parts of the Region. This year the
Meetings are being held at Srinagar which is known
as “Paradise on Earth”. I am sure, it will be a unique
and memorable experience for everyone who visits
Srinagar to attend Half Yearly Meetings. September
is one of the best months to visit Srinagar so we are expecting large number of
brethren along with their families from the Northern Region as well as from other
Regions to be with us during Half Yearly Meetings. Brethren can get all the details
about the programme of the Meetings, Excursion trips, Accommodation etc in this
Brochure. Srinagar is very well connected by Airlines and by road from Jammu.
Brethren may book the Air tickets well in time to avail the concessional rates.
Half Yearly Meetings provide an opportunity to Brethren to meet each other and exchange their views to make Freemasonry more vibrant. These Meetings also provide an opportunity to take stock of the progress made by the Region in the past and for preparing comprehensive plans for the future.
I take this opportunity to make an appeal to Brethren of all Lodges in the Region as well as to all Active Officers to register themselves for the Half Yearly Meetings and attend these Meetings along with Ladies. Nothing can be more pleasing for a Regional Grand Master to see the representation of all Lodges/Chapters and presence of all Active Officers in the Half Yearly Meetings. I also appeal to Brethren and Lodges/Chapters to send contribution for advertisements, both Masonic and Commercial, to be published in the Souvenir which is being brought out on the occasion.
Our Region has always maintained high standards of arrangements at our Regional Meetings so as to look after comforts of the visiting Brethren and Ladies. The Steering Committee has already started working diligently on different aspects and for ensuring smooth arrangements of the event.
I am confident that I shall be able to meet large number of Brethren in the Half Yearly Meetings and that all Brethren and Ladies will go back home from Srinagar with fond memories of the event.

Sonmarg – 87 kms from Srinagar: Sonamarg, which means ' meadow of gold ', is easily accessible from Srinagar in under 3 hours by car or bus. This key tourist attraction has, as its backdrop, snowy mountains against a cerulean sky. River Sindh meanders along here and is abounds with trout and mahseer, snow trout can also be hooked in the main river.

If you are travelling to Srinagar by Air, please note that from Srinagar Airport no hand baggage is allowed. All the baggage is 'checked in' baggage. The reporting time at Srinagar Airport is 2 hrs before the departure of the flight.
Also please note that in Jammu & Kashmir roaming facility is allowed only on postpaid mobiles. Prepaid mobiles from other Indian States do not work.

The places of interest near Srinagar are:
Pahalgaon – 95 kms east of Srinagar: It is a popular tourist destination, and every year, many tourists visit Pahalgam. This world famous hill station is located on the banks of river Lidder at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level.Pahalgam is also associated with the annual Amarnath Yatra. Chandanwari (2,895 m), 16 km from Pahalgam. The road from Pahalgam to Chandanwari is on fairly flat terrain and can be undertaken by car.
Gulmarg – 60 kms from Srinagar: Gulmarg has been a resort for the kings and can be reached from Srinagar in under 2 hours by car or bus. Gulmarg plateau is a beautful meadow during summers and snow covered during winters. This resort is also famous because of its ‘Gulmarg Gondola,’ one of the highest cable car in the world, reaching 3,979 metres. The two-stage ropeway ferries about 600 people per hour to and from the gondola main station in Gulmarg to a shoulder of nearby Mt. Apharwat Summit (4,200 m (13,780 ft)).
