Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) Thursday, August 12-15, 2010

This is an opportunity for your company to be the first to interact with and possibly recruit the leaders in Region IV.

The goal of this conference is to stimulate and develop the potential of our members to become leaders within NSBE and beyond. Business Etiquette Luncheon The Business Etiquette Luncheon is an event designed to help NSBE students learn the proper business etiquette while out with potential employers and networking associates.

Leadership Certification Lapel Pins Each participant that passes their Leadership Certification Exam will receive a National Society of Black Engineers leadership pin to accompany their certificate to mark their accomplishment and status as a certified NSBE leader. The Fall Regional Conference consists of several “mini-conferences”, which include the Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Mini-Conference, the Graduate School Conference, and the Professional Development Conference (PDC) (page 10). Pre-college students can learn about engineering professions via roundtable discussions, competitions, and interactions with collegiate and alumni members. Company and College Tours will be included in the FRC Agenda in order institute Pipeline Development for our members. Company Tours will allow members to learn and see first-hand how a company runs their business. This will aid in the development of our pre-college (high school), collegiate, and alumni members. College Tours will help or Pre-College Students (grades 6-12) learn what they need in order to prep for college.

Fall Conference Programs Book

The Fall Conference Programs Booklet will provide attendees with all programming events, sponsors, special guests, and pertinent society information.



Benefits: Companies will be recognized as official sponsors for the Programs Book. Sponsoring companies will also receive one page of free advertisement as well as recognition at the Closing Banquet and Awards Ceremony.

Fall Conference Bags & Lanyards

The conference attendees will receive laptop/book bags as memorabilia for attending the conference with the NSBE logo, conference dates/location and sponsors name and logo. Sponsorship Cost: $7,000

Mr. and Mrs. Region IV

The Mr. & Mrs. Region IV Pageant is a fun way to recognize members for their scholastic achievements, community service, and dedication to NSBE. Interested members will submit an application to the FRC Special Events. The Pageant will consist of several segments including Contestant Intros, Professional Image & Lifestyle, Talent Competition, Evening Wear, and a Question & Answer Session. Prizes include a free trip to the NSBE National Convention and Book Scholarship.

The NSBE Alumni Extension is the embodiment of the true NSBE pipeline that prepares an individual from the NSBE Jr.

level to Collegiate to become a Professional Engineer. The Professional Development Conference that is held during the

skills and reach back to the younger members to help them learn the skills they need to excel academically and move

into their career paths as well.

This offers AE members the opportunity to network, exchange technical information, and discuss the business of the region. The AE members are able to participate as judges or guest speakers in several student competitions and workshops. This provides a great opportunity for student / alumni networking.



Benefits: Sponsoring companies will be publicized at the event as well as in as The Circuit, the Region IV newsletter, and in the FRC Program book. Representatives will have the opportunity to attend and facilitate some workshops.

Technical Certification Workshops

The AE provides members with technical and professional development training at the PDC. These workshops are also available to collegiate members focusing on the graduating seniors and community involvement.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE Membership Drive Incentives support local chapters and member recruitment of engineers and scientists to become active, participating members of the Alumni Extension. Once members have been recruited, they are eligible to participate in NSBE programs to develop themselves technically and professionally. Membership Drives include incentives for both new members as well as existing members who refer new members. These recruitment incentive awards will be for chapters and individual members.

Alumni Extension Membership Program Professional membership is open to all professionals who hold a degree in engineering, computer science, math, and the

Once members have been recruited, they are eligible to participate in NSBE programs to develop themselves technically and professionally. Try Math A Lon

The Try Math A Lon (TMAL) exposes pre college students to core mathematics, applied science, and history of black inventors. This program is designed to attain higher scores on ACT/SAT exams from training workshops. Students’ appreciation of math related sciences have the potential to be strengthened. Their confidence in math skills will grow along with the ability to study effectively.

Graduating Seniors Reception The Graduating Seniors Recognition is an event designed to honor NSBE students who are near the completion or have completed undergraduate or graduate degree program.



Benefits: This event provides the sponsor with an opportunity to mentor to and network with graduating seniors, maximizing the sponsors overall visibility among prime perspective candidates. Sponsors will be able to provide a speaker during this event to address the attendees. Their name will be listed in the FRC program as the official sponsor of this event. Collegiate Membership Program NSBE has a wide range of programs designed for collegiate students majoring in engineering or technical degree program who

are interested in improving their grades, participating in research programs, giving back to our community, and obtaining

internships. The organization rewards and encourages its collegiate members through scholarships and recognition, provides

personal and professional growth through leadership experiences, and academic development through educational activities,

competitions, and resources.

Regional Research Competition A competition designed to encourage our members to participate in research programs and present their research at a conference. Participants create and present a poster displaying their research. The top three winners will represent Region Four at the National Convention.



Benefits: Representatives can observe the intellectual and innovative talent of participating members by judging the USTR competition. Regional Technical Bowl A competition designed to encourage members to recognize the versatility of all engineering and STEM disciplines and teamwork. This is a quiz bowl/Jeopardy type trivia competition where teams or 5 compete with other schools within our region. The top three teams will receive a monetary prize and the top team will represent Region Four at the National Convention.

Kaplan Testing Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions offers GRE prep, guidance on applying to graduate schools of engineering, and financial aid information for prospective engineering graduate students. Sponsorship Cost: $2000

Pre-College, Collegiate, and Professional Exam Scholarships The Pre-College, Collegiate, and Professional Exam Scholarships are geared toward NSBE students who are preparing for entrance into an undergraduate or graduate program or for preparation in obtaining professional licensure. The goal is to provide funding for exam registration and study materials for exam test takers of the GRE, SAT/ACT, and FE/PE.

A Walk For Education (AWFE) AWFE is an annual walk that focuses on informing our communities on how to prepare for entrance into an undergraduate or graduate program. Region IV Bridging Our Chapters: Buddy/Buddy Program This program is aimed to create stronger relationships amongst collegiate chapters that are in the same geographical area within our region. Model Rocketry

Model Rocketry promotes basic engineering and science principles to pre college students while giving the participants a true "hands-on" experience in these subjects.

Engineering Design Competition

Teams build a prototype model of an existing or potential technical innovation. Students learn how science, design, engineering, and math are interrelated. It allows students to learn the roles of different engineers in a multidisciplinary team.

FIRST Robotics

Teams of professionals and youth will work together to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. This competition will give the opportunity for students to brainstorm, design, construct, and test a robot.

College Tours

College Tours will be included in the FRC Agenda in order to institute Pipeline Development for our NSBE Jr. members. College Tours will help our Pre-College Students (grades 6-12) learn what they need in order to prep for college i.e. suggested high school curriculum, scholarship opportunities, admission guidelines, types of majors, and other information.
