159th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

ONE HUNDRED DAYS SERVICE.

THIS Regiment was organized at Zanesville, 0., May 9 and 10, 1864, toserve one hundred days. It was composed of the Eleventh Regiment, Ohio

National Guard, from Muskingum County, and the Seventy-third Battalion,Ohio National Guard, from Fairfield County. Immediately after muster-in

the Regiment was sent to Harper s Ferry, W. Va. It went into camp on Maryland Heights until the 17th, when it was ordered to report to General Lew Wal

lace, and by him was assigned to Brigadier-General Kenly s command. Four

Companies were detailed on guard duty at Camp Bradford, Baltimore, Md.,where they remained during their term of service. One Company performed

provost-guard duty in the city, another was detailed at Patterson Park Hos

pital, and the remaining Companies were detailed to guard bridges on the

Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad. During the Rebel inva

sion, one hundred men from the Regiment were mounted and participated inthe battle of Monocacy Junction, July 9th, and the skirmishes incident thereto.

On the 12th of July Companies B, E, G, and I, of the One Hundred and Fifty-ninth, with other troops, moved on an expedition to Pikesville against a forceof the enemy. On the 28th of July four companies of the Regiment werestationed at Havre de Grace, in charge of the railroad at that point. On the13th of August the Regiment was relieved from duty. It arrived at Zanesville

on the 17th, and was mustered out August 22 and 24, 1864. on expiration of

its term of service.

*The organization of the One Hundred and Fifty-eighth Regiment was not completed.
