TIMBUKTUDir Abderrahmane Sissako Fra/Mauritania 2015 97 mins
Set against Mali’s cultural struggle with Islamic militants, Timbuktu is a passionate and visually beautiful film: a cri de coeur against violence and intolerance. The film is a panorama that slips between stories and characters, building up its effect while avoiding the worthiness and emotional manipulation of much current affairs cinema - richly poetic, witty and highly entertaining. Subtitled.

Pantaloons
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING
EARNEST
"You must not laugh at me, darling, but it had always been a girlish dream of mine to love someone whose name was Ernest..."
Everybody loves Ernest. The only trouble is, he doesn't exist. Or does he? Oscar Wilde's comic masterpiece gets The Pantaloons treatment in our anarchic take on the classic comedy of manners. This energetic show features all the usual Wildean wit, plus a few Pantaloony surprises including singing butlers, travel by means of musical montage and a post-interval hollywood-style recap...
The Pantaloons are a young and dynamic theatre company comprising graduates of Kent University. They aim to recapture an aspect of drama which modern naturalistic theatre has lost: the riotous energy of the clown. Their productions are entertaining, accessible and intelligent productions of classical texts for audiences, whatever their level of familiarity with such works.

PYGMALIONby George Bernard Shaw
'I sold flowers. I didn't sell myself. Now you've made a lady of me I'm not fit to sell anything else'
Professor of phonetics Henry Higgins makes a bet with his friend, Colonel Pickering, that he can transform Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, into a duchess at ease in polite society. But neither of the men is aware of how fond they will become of her, and that, although Higgins may succeed in teaching her to act and speak like a lady, she will assert her independence and adamantly refuse to be his creation...
One of George Bernard Shaw's most loved plays, Pygmalion is the work on which the subsequent musical comedy 'My Fair Lady' is based. But the two works have important differences. While there are many parallel scenes and even some precise lines of dialogue, the play is more witty and insightful and explores moral and social issues that remain with us today.

WYRD SISTERSFrom the book by Terry Pratchett Adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs Wyrd Sisters is a fantastical comedy set in the alternative Discworld created by TerryPratchett, peopled with witches, mad dukes, fools, ghosts, disinherited kings, actors and dim guards.
Duke Felmet and his scheming wife have murdered his brother to steal the throne. But they have not counted on the intervention of Granny
Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick, the three witches of the title, who turn the Duke’s evil plans into complete disarray.
It borrows outrageously from Macbeth and Hamlet but turns those sombre tragedies into a hilarious comedy where anything can and does happen

M.A.T.A.The theatre is run by the M.A.T.A. (Minehead Amateur Theatrical Association) Regal Theatre Company Limited (Company no. 3149984) and is a registered charity (No. 1052714). The company was started by a group of volunteers devoted to maintaining and developing live theatre in the centre of Minehead and the Board of Trustees meets once a month to manage its affairs. Everyone who regularly works in the theatre is a volunteer, and MATA gratefully acknowledges the invaluable contribution they make. Without them, the theatre could not operate.
VOLUNTEERING

FRIENDS OF THE REGAL
The Regal Theatre is a hugely successful community project. Many people show their support by becoming a FRIEND OF THE REGAL. The annual subscription entitles a Friend to receive regular newsletters about activities, discounts on most tickets when booking in advance (usually 50p) and the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting the local community theatre! The subscription is £5.00 per adult which includes children living at the same address.
The Regal greatly appreciates the enormous support it receives from the community and from the Friends. If you are not already a member, can we ask you to consider becoming a Friend of the Regal? To do this you need only ask one of the theatre staff for an application form or call into the box office. Requests can be made by sending an email to the Regal Theatre from the web-site: www.regaltheatre.co.uk
REGAL FILM SOCIETY
The Regal Theatre is home to the Regal Film Society, which has recently registered as a charity (number 1162286) and is now celebrating its 21st season. It is the largest film society in the South West and the second largest in Britain, with nearly 400 members. Recently released films from the UK and around the world are screened every month on one of the largest screens in the area, measuring 30ft x 15ft.
The Regal Film Society has just upgraded its projection equipment to a digital cinema package (DCP) of the type now used in most commercial cinemas. Until recently the film society screened films using a Westrex 35mm projector, which was used in the days when the Regal was a cinema. However, now that 35mm film has been largely phased out, and in order for the film society to continue to be able to screen feature films soon after their release, it has become essential to upgrade to a DCP.
The cost of Film Society membership is £16.50 (individual) £27 (couple) and £11 (concessions) and tickets on the night cost £2.50 for members and £4.50 for non-members.
For more details about the Film Society, please ring Victoria on 01643 831343.Membership of the Film Society DOES NOT include membership of the Friends of the Regal.
