RefWorks – Searching Online Information Within RefWorks

Did you know that you have access to many other online data sources, right at your fingertips? And, you can access those data sources without leaving RefWorks...
Here's how you do it... Click on Search.
Select Online Catalog or Database. You can also access this area in the Tools, Search Online Catalog or Database area.

Click on the drop-down box to see the list of all the data sources available to you.
Let's search the British Library.

You can download up to 500 references. We're going to take only 10.

You have two search options -- a Quick Search (a keyword search) or an Advanced Search (a Boolean Search). Let's use the Advanced Search... We'll search first by Title, then by Publication Year.

Click the Search button after you've established your search criteria.
A new window opens with your search results. Remember, we're actually in the British Library database (not RefWorks). The name of the online database is always displayed in the upper right corner. Select the references you want to import.

Select a folder to begin your import into RefWorks.

You can locate your newly imported references by selecting Last Imported from the View, Folder drop-down (Oops! We're getting into a different topic!)

Just like any other reference you import into RefWorks -- you've got to check these for completeness as well. Remember, RefWorks doesn't write the information...it only reads it. (are you getting the feeling that this is important, since we keep saying it?)
We're moving right along. Now that you can get your references into RefWorks, you need to know how to find them (so you can include them in your bibliography!).
