Reflective Summary:
In the course of Business and Industrial Law, which mainly helps us to know and assess the
lawful and unlawful situations that we may face at times when we would be working as a
manager in an organization, I have learned some of the interesting facts, though the subject law,
itself, is very tedious.
In the first class, our instructor had given us a glimpse of the further classes, and what we would
actually get to know from the course, and in the further courses we got to know more, starting
from the very basic. By basic, I had mainly referred to the terms that I had faced in the whole
course; throughout the time I had learned different topics (e.g. offer and acceptance, what is
contract and agreement and their differences and similarities, consideration, major and minor,
etc). After that, when we had got enough knowledge about the terms which we would be facing,
we had continued into learning different scenarios, which means that I, along with the rest of the
class, had learned the other topics, which were broader, in accordance to the Acts that we would
need to know from this course. And the basic that we had learned, the tiny bits of the terms and
words that we had faced throughout the whole course, we had been given an outline of it before
we had attempted the first midterm of the semester.
As our instructor proceeded, for our convenience, we had been given examples to understand
various situations and our quizzes and examinations had also been based on such types of
examples, where we had been given situations which we had to understand and the requirements
were also given, and we had to identify what was happening and what was to be done, which was
obviously in relation to the law of the topics that we had been given to learn about, i.e. which
was provided in the text book. This had helped us to understand the topics clearly, though in
some cases it was trickier than we had anticipated.
Furthermore, not only we had got the examples to identify, but also there were some
argumentative statements, which were taken from the parts of the Acts provided in the course
book, based on which our course topics, and it had given us a chance to get into more details of
some of the topics, since we had to write for or against the statements we had been provided
with. Also, as in some statements, we had to say in details about what the statements had meant
in some cases, so it needed little knowledge about the topics, which we had read from the course
book that we had been given for the course. Furthermore, as in some statement explanation, for
better understanding, we needed to give our own examples, basing on our knowledge and
learning, so it was interesting to some extent.
Though some of the topics were not so interesting, and it needed full concentration to keep pace
with the class (as at times when it became very hard to understand the topic, at least in my case),
but our instructor had helped us to know and understand the situations and had tried to make
those topics understandable, interesting and also used more examples to make it easier.
Not only we had only studied the laws related to business, but as some of the students were from
AIS (Accounting Information System) department, including myself, and we had been given an
improvement presentation about Industrial Labor Law, and there we had been given a group
assignment, which had enlightened our knowledge about what to be done during any labor
situations. Also, for our convenience, to build up better confidence and presenting ability, we had
given a formal presentation to elaborate about what we had learned from the Labor Law, which
was according to the Labor Act.
Also, not only this Labor Act assignment was given, which had been related to Industrial Law
and would help AIS students for the next law course, but there had been other topics for the final
term paper, and we had chosen the topic called “Formation of Partnership and Legal
Requirement (which is according to Partnership Act 1932). There we had been given the
opportunity of what rules to follow for the partnership business and what are the prospects and
constraints of doing an act there, etc. It had been quite an interesting topic and we learned about
the Act better, as it had been included in the final syllabus, and for our convenience, we chose
this topic, among the other three which had been provided to us.
Overall, it can be said that this course had helped us to know about the legal situations that we
would face when we would go to any organization and work as a manager. It is because that time
we would handle such situations and this course would help us to manage such problems.
Though the course was tedious at times, but it had also been interesting in some cases.
