You may also have heard, that if a UK based company had been involved in the construction of the buildings that will serve that event, then they are not permitted to publicise the fact. In fact, to promote the hard work and dedication that has gone into delivering these buildings is actually against the law! Now, hypothetically speaking, let’s pretend that we at Reynaers were proud to have supplied the vast majority of the aluminium window systems, for over £20 million of the installed window and doors, that may, or may not, have been used to build the Athletes’ Accommodation at a particular large sporting event. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful achievement? And wouldn’t it be great for Reynaers, and our customers, to be able to promote our excellent work in delivering such a massive undertaking, under budget and on time? Yes, that would be wonderful, but obviously we are not saying that, as we are not allowed to. So, naturally we won’t! One of the largest regeneration programmes of recent times is taking place right on the doorstep of the Olympic Village, Stratford in the London Borough of Newham.

It is impossible not to notice the transformation and our architectural aluminium systems abound on many of the impressive, new residential and commercial developments.

Plans are already in place to transform the 500 acre Olympic site into what will become the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as announced recently by the London Legacy Development Corporation. In a planned re-opening process the initial section of the new park will re-open in July 2013.

Coinciding with this, 11,000 new homes are planned within five district neighbourhoods with a mix of high density apartments and lower density family homes towards Stratford City. New infrastructure is planned including a new high street linking the north of the park with the Athlete’s village, all part of Stratford’s plan to deliver a lasting legacy.

In all the projects around East London, environmental and sustainability concerns have been of the utmost importance. Being 100% recyclable, our aluminium systems fully meet the requirements. The massive redevelopment of Stratford and East London, combined with plans to transform the Olympic site, make it an exciting and challenging time for urban renewal.

One Stratford High Street

This modern development commanding stunning views across the Olympic Park

One Stratford High Street boasts a mixed use with retail and business units on the ground and first floors and 181 residential apartments on the upper floors, including two penthouses.

Our CW50 curtain wall system features throughout the development, which is built in accordance with EcoHomes guidelines, and incorporates a communal heating and hot water system. This modern riverside development in the heart of East London commands stunning views across the Olympic Park as well as towards The City and Canary Wharf, many of the apartments have their own balconies.

As part of the development Telford Homes partnered with Toynbee Housing Association to provide shared ownership and rental apartments.

An eye-catching, stylish design is a feature of Lesney Matchbox Works, a unique development on the outskirts of Hackney complete with a waterside location transforming a previous brownfield site.

Predominantly one, two and three bedroom luxury apartments by Telford Homes, with concierge service and private gym for use of residents, it also features artists’ studios as part of a commercial space.

All the apartments have balconies featuring our Eco door and window systems while Vision 50 ground floor treatment is used on 49 artist studios, all pre-let to create immediate vibrancy throughout the commercial space. Runs of CW50 curtain walling optimise the surrounding views, merging seamlessly with the stylish design of the buildings and the striking use of colour.

As part of the regeneration the development includes 71 affordable rented homes for London and Quadrant Housing Trust.

This modern development commanding stunning views across the Olympic Park

Regeneration of a brownfield site previously used for storage Aurora in Stratford is close to the Olympic Village, offering a complete mix of homes, including commercial property and landscaped gardens. Whilst having a unique character the buildings, designed by architects Stock Woolstencroft, are cleverly linked by the distinctive materials, colours and window treatments.

A flagship-development providing mixed tenure schemes with 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments the £49 million scheme is a highly attractive contemporary development of 173 properties comprising 37 affordable rent, 111 private sale along with 25 shared ownership homes. Prominently situated on the corner of Stratford High Street and Rick Roberts Way, it also includes seven ground floor commercial units, private landscaped gardens and a children’s play area.

Our distinctive Eco Windows, CS68 doors and Vision 50 doors were all installed by fabricators Baris Facades & Linings for main contractor Galliford Try. We worked closely with the fabricator on the specification and delivery of the systems throughout the development to achieve the desired overall finish conceived by the architect.

The ground floor frontage of the buildings utilise Reynaers Vision 50 doors, specifically designed for ground floor treatment and in particular high usage. They dovetail seamlessly with our CW50 curtain walling, installed throughout the 12 storey apartment block. Openers within the curtain walling are all from the Eco 50 window system that combines energy efficiency with aesthetic design. The same system is used for tilt & turn openers throughout the development. It meets the latest thermal insulation requirements with values exceeding Building Regulations.

A number of the apartments feature balconies and these are accessed via our Concept System 68 (CS68) doors, a three-chamber, thermally insulated aluminium system that gives the ideal combination of high insulation levels and optimum security.

John Campbell, our Major Façades Manager, won’t just be attending the Olympics - he has volunteered for a much more important role. Here, he shares his story with us as one of the 70,000 volunteers who will be working to make the London 2012 Olympic Games a success:

From the moment back in 2004 when London was awarded the 2012 Olympics I promised myself that I would be a part of it and since my best days as a competitor are long behind me, the obvious alternative was to become a volunteer.

The selection process started in early 2011 and in June I was offered a role on the Transport Team. Since then I have attended a number of training

Now with enhanced, high insulation performance our CP155 sliding door system has achieved the Swiss Minergie® Modul, confirming its suitability for use on low energy buildings.

By upgrading the system we can now achieve significantly improved insulation levels down to a Uf value of 1.07 W/m²K, providing a complete glazed element with insulation values as low as Uw 1.0 W/m²K. As a result, Reynaers CP155 LS/HI is certified with a Minergie® label.

It can accommodate extremely large dimensions of up to 3 metres in height and a maximum vent weight of 400kg on the motorised version. A low threshold version is also available.

To achieve the Minergie® standard buildings have to attain a sustainable, high-grade envelope that is energy efficient and maintains a continuous renewal of air. In general, such buildings consume around 60% less energy than conventional buildings. Building products can also achieve the Minergie® standard, such as our sliding door system CP155 LS/HI and window and door systems CS77 and CS86 HV.

From the 100s of entries we received for our Ferrari World Competition, we would like to congratulate Roger Whalley of M Price Limited whose entry was chosen at random to win the fantastic trip. In the event, Roger chose to take his family away on a European holiday so they could all share in the enjoyment of his competition win.

We were delighted with the number of entries the competition attracted, especially during the Ecobuild exhibition at ExCel, London.

Ferrari World competition – and the winner is!

Olympic vision for John as he picks up the challenge

and orientation sessions, including a recent tour of the Olympic Village.

Our principal responsibility is to provide safe, efficient, punctual, reliable and sustainable transport to the athletes and officials. There are 15,000 athletes taking part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have to ensure they and all the officials are in the right venue at the right time for their event.

With Transport Team members located at all of the venues, I am fortunate to have been selected to work in the main transport hub in the Olympic Village where all of the athletes will pass through at some stage. At its peak, the hub will handle up to 180 vehicle movements an hour, so it will not be boring with the first competitors departing at 0600hrs and the last not arriving back until around 2400hrs.

Consequently, volunteers will be working in 8 hour shifts. In my case I have 15 shifts spread over a 4 week period, which includes an invitation to attend the technical rehearsal of the opening ceremony.

Our premium sliding door system CP155 just got even better
