Dear Parishioners:

Be Hope-Full! In today's Gospel, Zacchaeus drops from a tree into the hands of Jesus' mercy, just like ripe fruit. This tough public sinner cheated everyone. He was hated by the local people. Yet inside his heart, the Holy Spirit was prompting him to seek Jesus. When he did this, Jesus openly came to his home, bringing salvation to his house!

There is hope for everyone in God's mercy. Mercy means to forgive some-one when the person does not deserve it. That is how God loves us and that is how He wants us to love one another. Let us continue to be "Mercy in Mo-tion!" Thank You for participating in the family of God.

This week, Tuesday, Nov. 1, is All Saints Day, a Holy Day when all Catholics are to attend Mass. St. Joseph the Worker Masses are at 8:00 am and 5:30 pm. St. Columbkille Masses are 7:00 am and 8:50 am. See YOU there!

Blessings upon you, Fr. Gabriel

BIG Fair Trade Sale Sunday, Nov. 20th 8 am to 12:30 pm in Martin Hall

It is Halloween time and most of our thoughts turn to children in costume and trick or treat! This is a cultural tradition that we take for granted, perhaps until we have experienced the holiday in a developing country. Dia de Muertos is celebrated by our Hispanic friends and has a dif-ferent feel to it. I am always reminded that 150 million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are involved in child labor around the world (Fair Trade Fact). Their celebration is more subdued than in our country. Your support of Fair Trade items directly improves many of their lives.

On Tuesday evening, November 15, 2016, the (CEO) will offer a presenta-tion to the Dubuque area community. This event will take place at St. Antho-ny's, at 7:00 pm and feature Colleen Pasnik. Invite a family member or friend to join you to hear Colleen's story. Catholic Evangelization really isn’t new. After all, we have been evangelizing since Jesus sent his disciples “to proclaim the kingdom of God.” We are simply friends talking with friends and sharing our own, personal witness of Jesus Christ. How we have come to know Him and how He continues to be part of our lives. All are welcome to attend this presentation. Praise and Worship Music begins at 6:45 pm. Re-freshments & social after.

GRACE 2.0 Leadership Team thoughts: Who of us doesn’t love the climbing of a tree? Our Zacchaeus story brings out the child in each of us. Zacchaeus didn’t just open his heart to Jesus. He took action. He ran ahead, climbed the tallest tree, gave half his possessions to the poor, and promised to pay four times over anyone he had extorted. Looking for Jesus will lead us to a depth of faith that will cause us to change our life, climb trees, go above and beyond to see the face of Jesus. True belief leads to real action. Our Parish Leader-ship has led us through a year of Grace 2.0. The question arises: what do we want next for our faith community? How will we continue together to seek Jesus?

I'm so young...how can I help? For children who are looking to get involved in the Mass, our Children's Liturgy of the Word at St. Joseph the Worker has several opportunities! During Children's Liturgy of the Word, on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month, we need youth volunteers to read the Scripture, carry the banner, and even assist with presenting the reflection for the day. Thanksgiving Baskets – We will again be giving away Thanksgiving baskets to those in the Dubuque community who request a Thanksgiving meal for their family. The KC’s at St. Columbkille have generously offered to provide 100 turkeys and bags of potatoes to accompany the baskets. So we are asking for parish families between St. Joseph the Worker and St. Columbkille to provide the other items in the gift boxes. They include the following: stuffing, turkey gravy, yams, cranberry sauce, cream of mushroom soup, canned green beans corn or other vegetable, jello, canned fruit, and a $10 Hy-Vee gift card (for the recipient’s purchase of a pie and/or dinner rolls). If you would like to provide the entire dinner menu listed above for a family or any items listed above, please put it in a sturdy box and return it to either church by Monday, November 14. Thanks for your anticipated generosity.
