If you are responsible for a program or group that needs access to the building outside of regular office hours, you will need to sign up for a new key. Although we dont have a firm date yet for when the building will be rekeyed, signing up now for a new key if you need one will help us figure out how many keys to make and who to contact when the time comes. Dont worry—we wont rekey the building without announcing the date a week or two ahead of time. Until then, you may stop by the office and sign up for a new key. We Are Planning the 2020 WELCA Bazaar

Our first Craft/Brain Storming session is Tuesday, February 18 at 1:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. We welcome all your ideas, followed by an opportunity to make yarn birds. Craft Club will meet the first, third and fifth Tuesdays of the month through summer. Our projects are easy, involving painting, gluing, and assembling. Adult Education February 2: As the writer of Psalm 136 looked over the history of the Israelites, he saw God's hand in the events of their lives over time! Have you taken time to review your history to see God's faithfulness in your life story? Join us for a class called "Writing Your Psalm." See you there! Led by David Ophus.

TRAVELOGS February 9 and 23, March 1: Living, Learning and Listening in Shishmaref, with Pastor John Hergert. In the fall of 2018 Pastor John Hergert, our former interim pastor, was asked by the Bishop of the Alaska Synod to spend six months in a Native Village just south of the Arctic Circle and be the interim pastor at Shishmaref Lutheran Church. While there he kept a journal of his time ministering to those people. He has taken that journal and his experiences while there and put together three presentations to help others come to know these faithful people who live in a place that is rapidly disappearing due to Climate Disruption. The first two sessions, on February 9 and February 23, will deal with some background information about where Shishmaref is and what it is like to live on an island that is only one-half mile wide. The last session, on March 1, will compare his two experiences of Climate Disruption, one being at Holden Village during the Wolverine Creek Fire and the other living in Shishmaref, Alaska.

February 16: Laura Burlingame-Lee will show photos and and share her thoughts and insights from her trip to Israel.

Coming in March “In every good story, there is history and there is risk.” ENTERING THE PASSION OF JESUS will be the adult class offering in March led by Mary Rickerd, based on the newest book by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine. Author, professor, and biblical scholar Dr. Levine delves into the history and literature of the last days of Jesus’ life. The texts raise ethical and spiritual questions and how we face risk in our Christian experience.

Join Christian Life Reading

We are discussing the book Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, And Loving the

Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans. Ms. Evans found herself asking questions on how better to understand the Bible and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her. Sadly, Ms. Evans died unexpectedly of a virus shortly after the book was published. Intrigued? Purchase the book from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. The Christian Life Study group normally meets the second and fourth Mondays, beginning at 12pm in the Library. Questions?—contact Mary Rickerd.

The Social Ministry Committee extends a grateful thank you to all who contributed to the Meridian Foodbank in December. A total of 567 lbs. of food was collected, 362 lbs. for the backpack program and 205 lbs. for the pantry. Several scarves, hats, and gloves were also donated. Your generosity is appreciated. It’s been a long stretch of limited activity since December 12th when I had my back surgery but it’s been worth it. I want to thank all of you who sent me well wishes and prayers and even visited me. All of this helped me so much in my recovery.

—Carolyn Jean Smith

Using A Spirit-Led Life to Help with Life’s Challenges

Marriage and Family Counselor Pastor Kelly Loy will lead a workshop titled Using A Spirit-Led Life to Help with Life’s Challenges. Would you like to deepen your spiritual connection to Jesus? Do you need a new way to deal with issues life brings us including health challenges, relationship stress, and losses, and the corresponding emotions, such as grief, anxiety, or depression? We grow up learning to push down and tune out what is too emotionally painful or overwhelming for us, coping in many different ways. But historic Christian practices have invited attention inward, using practices such as centering prayer and contemplation, as a means of finding God and help for the emotions that can overwhelm us. In this workshop, Pastor Kelly will discuss ways to both heal our emotional pain and find closer connection to Jesus. She will share ideas from Mary Steege’s book The Spirit-Led Life that connects Internal Family Systems and familiar Christian beliefs. Join us for a day of laughter, reflection, and an invitation to deepen our faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boise on Saturday, February 22, 2020, 10am to 2pm. (Lunch included.) Presenter: Pastor Kelly Loy, LAMFT, LPC, NCC, MDiv, RN Address: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 707 W. Fort St. Boise ID 83702 Sponsored by the WELCA Treasure Valley Cluster. Contacts: Mary Kay Tinker, 208-284-3066 and Kelly Loy, 208-398-3308

Have You Subscribed to Living Lutheran? It has been a long-standing tradition at King of Glory to provide members a subscription to the Living Lutheran Magazine. Please mark your contributions for “Lutheran Magazine Subscription”. This option is also available through on-line giving on the King of Glory website https://www.koglutheran.org Similarly, if you receive printed weekly offering envelopes and would like to offset the cost for them, the cost per household is approximately $8.00. To add a subscription, to correct mailing information, or to cancel a subscription, for either the Living Lutheran or the Weekly Offering Envelopes, please contact Becky Newberry, 208-695-7047 [email protected] A Thrivent Financial Event:
