Referee Mentor Program

The referee assigner assigns mentor positions, the same way as a referee is assigned, using www.ArbiterSports.com (an Arbiter account is required to receive assignments)

Pay is $10 for U10 and $15 for U11+ If you wish to be a mentor, let your assigner

know what your availability is.

Assignments

Arrive 15 minutes before match start Introduce your self to the referee crew and

coaches Mention the following to the referee crew:

◦ your name◦ how long you have been refereeing◦ overview of the evaluation process

You are not an Assessor; you are a Mentor!

Introductions

What to bring:◦ A watch◦ A clipboard◦ A copy of the evaluation form◦ Writing instrument

Change vantage points during the game Remain discrete

Observations

Let the referee crew communicate first among themselves

Let them ask questions of you first, if they wish

Be brief with your comments (less than two minutes)

Provide one minor correction to each referee

Halftime Conference

Spend 10-15 minutes with referee crew after the game, and identify to them what you will be putting on the form

Be positive! When identifying corrections, mention how

they will benefit the referee Avoid technical critiques that involve

mechanics or references to literature, unless you are certain that your information is current

Criteria are subjective, using U,NI,A,E,O nomenclature.

Do not use ‘U’ (Unacceptable), unless the referee is grossly negligent

Use ‘NI’ in at least one category for youth referees

Forward completed evaluations to Referee Assigner (cysamatt@gmail.com) within one week of match.
